McCarthy: Feeney to Join Town
Tuesday, 15th Mar 2016 22:21

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Bolton winger Liam Feeney will be joining the Blues on loan for the rest of the season on Thursday.

“He’s at Ipswich, I’ve just seen him, we’ll be signing him on Thursday, it’ll be done,” McCarthy confirmed.

The Blues boss was very impressed with the 29-year-old’s performance against Town for Bolton last week.

“I’d never seen him play up front before but I thought he was different class last Tuesday, I thought he played really well,” he added.

“He can play either side, he’s got real pace, he can stretch the team, stretch the pitch and he’s an experienced Championship player, so that’s a good one for us that.”

Feeney, who is out of contract in the summer, impressed against the Blues during last week’s 2-2 draw at the Macron Stadium.

He started his career in non-league with Hayes and then Salisbury, moving on to Southend (loan), Bournemouth, Millwall, Bolton (loan) and Blackburn (loan) before joining the Trotters on a permanent deal in May 2014.

Feeney's departure may in part have triggered former Trotters' manager Neil Lennon's exit earlier today.

Lennon was reportedly told that the winger - amongst others - was set to move on at a meeting today and the Northern Irishman subsequently left the club by mutual consent.

Much needed addition after last nights dire performance. We had no width at all. We desperately need a left back as well please Mick. AMN is a footballer whose confidence must now be rock bottom having joined a club where the ball is constantly hoofed over his head. Next he's told to play right back. Now frozen out completely.Arrived as a very promising talented footballer leaving as a confused young man devoid of confidence.

This probably means Fraser, sadly, is not ready yet or even coming back, but at least we have done something about it.

This lad can be seriously good and I remember he destroyed us playing for Millwall a few years back.

I think and hope this new challenge for him, with possible potential of premier league football will fire him up and get him going.

Well done MM..

We certainly seem to have a lot of players who are "different class" according to Mick.

This is definitely good news.

Next a Right Back?

A good run now would get us into the play-offs and the team that comes with 'a late run' into the play-offs hits form at just the right time. Who knows?

It's going to be a very interesting Team selection for Saturday.Rotherham need the points as well,so will MM set out with a five man midfield or go all out for goals.Lets just hope he does go for goals. Every game now is a must win as we cannot rely on teams around us dropping points. It's asking a lot,but we really need a big crowd Saturday and plenty of noise.I did witness some very strong language vented at some of the players at half time.( not nice).

We've had a Feeney before - Jim Feeney if this Feeney is as consistent and reliable as Jim was he'll be a good addition and yes I do know that Feeney was a fullback the other regular full back at the time was Len Tyler.
Happy days in Churchmans.

Under 30 at least. Worth a look as we're not exactly blessed with wide options right now.

Although not actually signed yet, presume his loan will include the play offs.

Looked pretty good the other week.

JAS and I have been banging on about getting someone else in before the window closes for the last time, and despite Mick indicating to the contrary, the sly old fox has done it again.

Hope this is will give us a little boost,if he plays him,as several wide men have come and gone since McCarthy took over,or don't get in the side Larsen Toure for instance;like some I also tend to think we may have seen the last of AMN on a regular basis.

Feeney is still just under 30;but looking ahead feel Mick will have to start resting some of his favourites,in the coming seasons as most are now the wrong side of 30

Excellent signing. Could make a big difference for the promotion push, which after last night is definitely still on. It will be tough of course as we don't have the best squad in the world, but we can grind out results and that's important at this stage.
