Murphy Out But Bishop and McGoldrick on Bench
Monday, 4th Apr 2016 13:34

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says striker Daryl Murphy won’t be involved in Tuesday’s home game against Charlton and is a doubt for the match against Brentford on Saturday, but confirmed that Teddy Bishop and David McGoldrick will be amongst the subs for the Addicks’ visit.

Murphy suffered a calf injury while away with the Republic of Ireland and missed the weekend trip to Wolves.

“Daryl won’t be available for Tuesday’s game and he’s a doubt for Saturday,” McCarthy said.

“Everyone else is OK, everybody from Saturday and Ainsley Maitland-Niles is back in the squad, so they’re all OK.”

McCarthy confirmed that Teddy Bishop, who travelled to Wolves without being in the 18, will be on the bench, alongside David McGoldrick, a late sub at Molineux.

The Town boss says there is no news on when Ryan Fraser might return to Suffolk with the on-loan Bournemouth man undergoing his rehab from his hamstring injury back with his parent club: “No, but he won’t be here for tomorrow or Saturday’s game.”

Meanwhile, asked again whether he had received any contact from Aston Villa he said there had been none.

Good news to have these two on the bench, gives us some really great game changing options. But they need more than 3 minutes to change the game this time!

If anyone plays FIFA they will know that you can structure your teams to play in all manner of formations. But NOWHERE in the game is there an option for a squad containing 3 Defensive midfielders (CDMs).

There is a reason for this. MM please pick a team to win tomorrow rather than set up to counter the mighty Charlton.

Does this mean that Douglas starts, I certainly hope not

Douglas out Foley in its not rocket science .Suppose we will be setting up to counteract them and be happy with a draw.

My guess is we will go for the 0-0. Hyam, Douglas and Skuse in midfield.

Foley is far too good at passing to be in our starting 11 BattyBlue. We will instead aim to break up play using 3 defensive midfielders and use rocket-ball from our defence.

If the are fit play them. We have nothing to lose and a whole off-season to get them fit again if they get injured.
I know the above is stupid I just want to see some attacking adventure from McCarthy instead of the predictable boring sh!te we have had all season. Something to make us think he gives a damn about playing football.

Is MM developing the famous 4-6-0 formation? But in MM's case the 6 is 6 defensive midfielders.

Wish he would give some of the youngsters a chance. I have no doubt the crowd will get behind MM if he starts either/and McDonnell or Dozzell.

Think Mick will change things slightly as he blamed fatigue after the defeat to Rotherham - I think Bru will be in for Pringle and Hyam for Douglas.

Wouldn't mind seeing a 4-3-3 with Skuse, Bru and Pringle in the middle (not that Hyam's done much wrong on his return excluding the Rotherham match where everyone was awful) with the alternative being a 4-4-2 with Feeney - Skuse - Bru - Pringle across midfield with Pitman and Sears up top but... neither will happen.

All or nothing time - Would love to see Foley Bru Pringle and Feeny with Sears and Dids up front

We have tow win - simple - but the man who plays 'not too lose ' let us see
Take the game to them
Bish back is great - love to see DOZZELL or McDonnell on bench ( agree with Guentchev) the unknown quantity
Maybe MM will surprise us all !!

For once Mick, set us up to win the game, not just to counter the opposition. We must have Bru in centre midfield, alongside Skuse or Hyam. Pringle and Feeney wide, Sears & Pitman up front. I know MM won't do it, but we should have Foley at right back, Chambers centre back alongside either Smith or Berra. Everyone playing in their best position. McGoldrick to come on for at least 20 minutes before the end. Maybe a bit too soon for Bish, but be good to see him get some minutes towards the end of the game. Let's get entertained, it's what we pay our entrance money for.

I remember when we signed Foley there was utter meltdown on here!

@blueherts - Foley Bru Pringle and Feeny that is a midfield I would like to see and it would state clearly our intentions to win or bust. At least we would go down fighting.

Also anyone who wants Bru in a CM in a 4-4-2 - well no. He has zero positional awareness. He was absolutely beyond embarrassing at Bristol City. Always 10/15 yards away from play.

Bru is a good technical player and floating in a variation of a 4-3-3 but in a 4-4-2 CM not for me.

Like to see McCarthy allow the players to pass the ball on the grass not just to run about on it.

I think we would all be dreaming a bit too much for Mick to drop both Douglas and Skuse. Would like two of either Foley, Hyam and Bru, but will it happen? Nopeeee!

Great news about Bishop. Very talented player. Good to hear ahead of tomorrow night's game.

Great to see Teddy Bishop back - hope he gets a chance to show what can be done when the ball is on the grass.

Maybe the crowd should aim their frustration at Evans for not giving the manager any money this season? Stump up or sell up?

Mark added 17:03 - Apr 4
Pitman and Sears up front tomorrow then, so all the most important to keep the ball on the floor and look for quality forward passes to play them in. Please not Douglas, Skuse and Hyam together tomorrow, or ever again. It will take me a long time to get over that I think. Home to Rotherham!

Goo news to have quality on the bench, but like others, with this being a very winnable home game, I hope it's just one of Skuse, Hyam or Douglas that starts, with the latter preferably being nowhere near the starting eleven or bench. Should be a comfortable win.

Quite right Arnie M.

Extraordinary how people can lay all the blame with McCarthy. Of course he is not faultless but our promotion chances have been truly scuppered by our faceless, silent owner who thought he might get away with achieving promotion without funding or supporting the manager.

Earlier comment about encouraging fans to protest at the match to Evans for not spending money. There is a time and a place for such protests and during the match isn't one of them - makes it unpleasant for the majority who are there to support their team..

Exactly where's the owner not mick he's pissed off you can tell. Milne and Marcus give him a budget at least not just freebies. Spend cash for some quality in the window in the summer otherwise we will not compete any more. The nucleus of the squad is here but we need some game changing players here otherwise mick and terry will go !!
