Bishop Delighted to Be Back
Thursday, 7th Apr 2016 11:43

Midfielder Teddy Bishop has admitted that he was worried that his injury problems might have forced him to miss the whole of 2015/16 before making his return as an 82nd minute sub during Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Charlton.

The 19-year-old has endured a frustrating injury-hit season, after an impressive first senior campaign during 2014/15.

“It was tough for me because I’d be thinking ‘I’m nearly back’ then I was back out again but this time I feel positive, I feel strong and hopefully that is the end of it now,” he said in an interview with Saturday’s match programme.

“There were a few times where I thought I wouldn’t play this season and I should just look to next season but the physios are good at reminding you that if you do your rehab then you never know.

“The gaffer has been really sensible with me. I think he’s going to ease me in because the last thing I need now is to start a game and feel something after half an hour.

“Hopefully I can have a few more substitute appearances and if they are going well I can get a start before the end of the season.”

Speaking earlier in the week, manager Mick McCarthy said the long spell out had been tough on the academy product and that he's been a big loss to the team.

"He’s come back and he looks great in training," McCarthy said. "I’ve been really pleased with him. You just see the quality that he has. He’s an outstanding young footballer and we’ve missed him this season.”

We are delighted to have you back Teddy!

Both Teddy and Didzy looked really good on Tuesday evening. I think it is too late for this season but hopefully fully fit and raring to go next season will be a great bonus for Town.

Even for the few minutes he had against Charlton you could see his class.
Had time to look up and pick out a pass.
Hopefully we will see him for a bit longer on Saturday. Really looking forward to seeing him. Gives me a reason to go for. a change

I'm glad that Teddy is back - but with shin splints he'll now miss 10+ games every season.
David McGoldrick will not be here next season - the club will allow him to move on as he is not settled in Suffolk. I do wonder if MM left, he is now 2nd favourite for the Villa job, if McGoldrick would stay? I would love to see a footballing team built around a core of Bart - Berra, Bishop, Dozzel, Sears and McGoldrick. If only huh?

Glad too to have Teddy back! but fancy it will be too late for him or McG to make much of a difference...both players will need at least a few games to acclimatise to the Championship after such long lay-offs.

Anyway I'm sure with them hopefully both match fit and up to speed in a few weeks the club will try and make this a selling point for next seasons ticket sales.

Looking forward to next season now! Great player for us and is what we are crying out for more than anything.

If he doesn't kick Douglas out the team, I don't know what will!

Also, it's a shame that Mick has already ruined the season for us due to his arrogance and stubbornness.

I think Teddy and Didzy would have really pushed us for playoffs if we were in a good position when they came back!

It's worth considering that everyone is having a right moan about McCarthy but seem to forget that for large periods of time this season, we've been missing the likes of Bishop, McGoldrick and even Fraser.

Our only downfall here is our lack of depth in the squad, but picking up players of that quality as back up are highly unlikely, especially given our playing budget.

Is it not inconceivable to believe a season with those three fit for even 80% of the time would have not given us another 7 points at some point and certainly improved the style of football on display?

Hope people don't get what they wish for and we keep McCarthy AND these players for next season. (although I accept Fraser has no chance of being here next season)

Well put dirtyboy.

I would add Murphy to that list. Unbelievably described as a cart horse by some on here! Age is against him but he is still a player with quality who brings far more than goals to the team.

Totally agree, it is great to have both teddy and Didzy back. Who knows where we would have ended up if they had both been available. However, with the style of football our manager has insisted on all season, their impact would probably have been minimal.

Dirtyboy,

I agree with that and I don't think anyone would disagree, but it doesn't take away the fact that he has his favourites, he won't listen to the fans in the aspect of consistently saying Douglas is 'different class', the fact we are boring to watch.. I could go on!!

After seeing the performance from one of our other central midfielders on Tuesday night, I don't think there would be anyone NOT delighted to see Bishop back.

Hope he stays fit now - we've needed him.

well it was like a breath of fresh air to see the bish and didsy back last tuesday.
and like said before buy many on here and face book he done more in his 10 minutes then a certain 2 in forward thinking play then they had in the whole game.

how ever i think i speak for many is the fact that we have had sitting on the bench atleast 3 players in foley bru and hyam of whomb we would need 2 who would have been alot more dynamic in play esp going forward. thats what has got peoples back up.

i think we need to go right back to the qpr game when the wheels started to fall of the cart. esp with varny ( who played well out wide right last season) upfront but yet sears who was on fire upfront last season then wide right.

i feel MM is going down the same route as alot of past managers here and start putting round pegs in square holes.

cast your mind back when jimbob was in charge, we had walters who was awsome on the right with norris who played well in the center in midfield.

and because walters scored something like 14 goals from wide right he then put him upfront and norris wide right and thats when the wheels started to fall off.

MM is going down the same route, to many players out of postion.

and to put it into perspective who remembers the great night at a packed portman road in jan 2011 when with a scrapping the barrell starting 11 because we had injuries to our players and had tons of loan players we scraped to gether a team and beat arsenal 1 nil with jamie peteres keeping arshavin iun his back pocket. so it can be done and the 18 we had on tuesday night is a better kalibre players then back then.

so to MM needs to stop being stuborn start putting our quality players in there best postion and then fill in the holes not plug the holes with our best players out of postion and then hoping it will work. its fair enough like against arsenal if thats all you have got and us as fans except that, but we wont except this sort of display and stupid thinking when there is better at your disposal. its a bit like having a snipers rifle at your disposal to shoot the enamy at 500m but you choose to use a pistol and expect it to hit the target and kill them

Yes,I agree with you guy's,Murphy is a very big asset to the team.He can hold the line well, and also defend better than some at the back.!Great to see Bishop back, but I doubt he will play a big roll for a few games. One thing we cannot do is blame results on injuries, had we had a stronger squad back in January when we had the chance to bring in players we possibly could have been in a better position now.Thats water under the bridge now and there is no point in worrying over spilt milk,it's too late. The only thing I'm concerned about now,is will things change for the better next season.!!!!

Welcome back Bish!
Great to see you on the pitch.

The playoffs may be just beyond us now.
Would be very exciting to see Bish, Didz and maybe even Dozzell Jr on the pitch together over the last few games.

Delighted to see him back but too little too late. Adequate cover should have been sought long ago, but our budget stretched to Giles Coke, who shouldn't be compared with a footballer like Bishop nor in fact anywhere near the squad let alone the match day team.

Elto - I down voted dirtyboy too but only for the following part of his input: "Our only downfall here is our lack of depth in the squad," what about the favourites, the people continuously played out of position, the people producing MOM performances then immediately dropped, the strategy - I could go on and on though much of what he said about McG and the others I thoroughly agreed with but the downside of the 'only' demanded a down vote from me and I would have thought from most people if they had a think before clicking!

Fair enough. I don't know, but maybe dirtyboy thinks MM has/had his reasons for all those things you have listed. He is, after all, a widely respected manager, away from this news site anyway.

Elto- 'was' is a better word to use surely? Never in my book though.

The bookies don't seem to think so. I realise you are not a fan, I can understand that. I just think frustration and/or blind hatred can cloud some peoples reasoning.

With the boys back lets get some of the young uns on as well give them some 1st team experience, and please get Douglas as far as possible away from this team, even though he is "different class and superb" Mick please!!!
But as sure as the sun rises tomorrow morning you know that bearded waste of a blue shirt will start , sadly!!
