McCarthy Not Expecting Fraser to Return as Murphy Misses Brentford Clash
Thursday, 7th Apr 2016 13:53

Boss Mick McCarthy says he now doesn’t expect on-loan winger Ryan Fraser to rejoin the Blues before the end of the season, while striker Daryl Murphy will again be missing when Town face Brentford at Portman Road on Saturday.

Fraser suffered a hamstring injury in the QPR game in January and has been undergoing his rehab back with his parent club AFC Bournemouth.

“I don’t think there’s any chance [of seeing Ryan Fraser again this season] actually,” McCarthy said. “He had a setback before, so he’s not going to be available for Saturday, and probably not the Saturday after.

“I’m looking it from the perspective if I was his manager. If he keeps having a setback he’d have to come back here 100 per cent fit, no doubt about that.

“And if I’m thinking about next season for one of my own players, a player who will probably be as valuable as Ryan will be to Bournemouth next season, I wouldn’t be encouraging him too much to be going [back out].

“I don’t think Eddie is stopping him in any shape or form, so don’t anybody think that, he was very gracious with us and loaned him and we got Brett, we had a really good deal and he’s helped us all the time.

“But I’d want to make sure that my player was fit for me for the start of next season and not having [injury problems]. If Ryan came here and got injured again, he’d be in [for treatment] all pre-season, he’d have no rest time and he’d be getting fit.

“There are a lot of mitigating circumstances why he may not come back. If he’s fully fit, we’ll see him again, but there’s a doubt about that.”

He says he doesn’t expect the Scotland U21 international to return next season: “I haven’t broached it with [Eddie Howe] but he sent him out to get some experience and to play and to do the things that he’s done with us in this league, just gain that experience playing.

“They were watching him and they were delighted with him, so I don’t envisage that he’ll come back here.”

Regarding Murphy’s calf injury, McCarthy says the Republic of Ireland striker won’t be back until the Blues face his former loan club Sheffield Wednesday next Saturday.

“It’s looking more like Sheffield Wednesday, he’s not fit for this weekend,” the Town boss added.

“He had a scan at the start of the injury, he had a little tear, a little nick in it so I always said he was going to miss these three games which were coming thick and fast, and there’s been no surprises there. Hopefully he’ll be back for Sheffield Wednesday.

“Other than that, there are just little bumps and bruises but all the squad from Tuesday are fit.”

He says David McGoldrick and Teddy Bishop will have benefited from their run-outs on Tuesday but aren’t ready to start, but says he’ll look to freshen things up with the Blues playing their third game in a week.

"The games come thick and fast and it’s at the end of the season so everybody’s starting to feel it. There’s every chance there’ll be a few different faces.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy confirmed that, as reported by TWTD on Tuesday, West Ham striker Jordan Brown is on trial but says that so far his interest has gone no further than that: “We just had a look at him, we’ll see what happens.”

Brown featured for the U21s as they won 2-1 at Barnsley on Monday afternoon.

2 injuries whilst here - coincidence?

Howe doesn't seem to think so...

One was actually while he was away with the Scotland U21s, so no conspiracy there!

Fair enough - but the constant injuries are worrying.

Murphy misses the Brentford clash too? Oh no, who else are we going to find to not score goals for us?

The answer: about 14-18 of them, as it turns out, essentially comprising 'the squad'.

Please play Foley in centre mid instead of Douglas... and seats up top....

Usual back 5

Feeney Skuse Foley pringle

Sears pitman

Bench
Hyam McGoldrick Bishop Varney Bru Gerken a defender

And play to win.

That's the only "freshers up" we need .....

Nothing to lose now - we should give a couple of the kids like Dozzel a run out for the last 6 games.

Not sure Howe would loan any more as it was clear that Fraser wasn't fit to play against QPR but MM took risk!
Now that Murphy is out just hope he plays 442 with freddie up front and two wide to supply Pitman

RaymondovicBlue, I'd also be happy if Douglas took seats up top too.

Top of North Stand or Co-op do you think?

I shall still vote for Frazer as my Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season - best thing we've had at Portman Road for a long time.
Hope he smashes it in the Premier League next season.

Maybe it's time to give the youngsters a go? Dozell etc? Play offs unlikely now.

Looking ahead into next season I think we need a massive shake up starting with a new young fresh manager.

Then the team.........IMO I get rid of the following:

Douglas, Toure, Tabb, McGoldrick, Murphy,

We need Chambers to partner Smith in CB with Berra dropping to the bench.

The following therefore would be required:

Right Back, Left Winger, Right Winger, X2 Strikers (one who can hold the ball up and one with pace)

On top of that Pringle/Deeney to be signed permanently.

Big changes needed if we want promotion soon.

Nothing to play for now thanks to boring negative MM so time to throw some kids in the mix....... never thought I'd say this but I'd rather see TABBY on the field then DOUGLAS. Here's hoping MM b###rs off to villa and takes his golden boys with him so we can employ a manager with some ambition PEARSON etc

The team is going to be unchanged for Saturday, cannot see him starting Bru + varney is an impact sub rather than a starter! same with pitman tbh

Fraser was excellent whilst he was here, similar impact to Jonny Williams. If only we were in a position to purchase quality like these two...... Just so many players that haven't performed or been given the opportunity to. Chambers needs to be a first choice centre back, with MM having the balls to drop Smith or Berra, Knudsen will have a seasons experience, we need a quality right back, sign Feeny & play him! Sign Foley decent back up, to Bru, Bish & Skuse. Sell Murphy, let Sears play alongside Mcgoldrick, Pitts as back up. BUY 2 DECENT WINGERS THAT CAN RETAIN THE BALL & CREATE!!
There, it's simple.......! Go on then, I'll chuck my name in the mix to succeed Mick!! 😂😂

Didn't think he would be coming back. Not sure if Eddy Howe realises that McCarthy played the wee man when he wasn't fit(most unusual)as he had felt his hamstring in previous game;so instead of resting him completely,or only playing him for part of game,he started, and McCarthy didn't sub him resulting in this injury right on 90 minutes, keeping him out for rest of season.

Hope this hasn't done Ryan Fraser any long term damage,so that he can shine for Bournemouth next season in the Premier League. What a pity we don't have a Manager with the same outlook as Eddie Howe instead of the Dinosaur from Yorkshire.

If I were Eddie Howe I wouldn't even consider loaning a footballer to a team who play defensive hoof ball. I can't see us signing too many quality players particularly on loan with our style of play. I fear it will be more inadequate low quality cheap players next season, but those who give 100% and can hoof the ball.

essex57 added 17:30 - Apr 7
Carsey afraid he's another Williams sick note in fact he could be reason we've had such a disappointing season if we hadn't of got him on loan we might of got a similar player in the market for ourselves.

Were we actually playing that way when Fraser was playing though?

Mark added 17:49 - Apr 7
There is no point playing Fraser or Maitland-Niles now, even if they are available.

I think Skuse and Bishop could be a good central midfield partnership next season if they can stay fit, but we need someone to play on the left and on the right (not Coke, Douglas, Hyam or Toure). Please don't go into 2016/17 without sorting the midfield out ITFC.
