Douglas Triggers One-Year Extension to Town Contract
Friday, 8th Apr 2016 12:38

Midfielder Jonathan Douglas has triggered a 12-month extension to his contract with the Blues, having joined Town from tomorrow’s opponents Brentford on a free transfer last summer, when he signed a one-year deal with an option for a second season.

“I’m delighted to be staying and I still think I can play for another couple of years,” the 34-year-old former Ireland international told the club site.

“I have reached the number of games that triggers a new contract for me, so as far as I’m concerned I will be here next season.

"I’m really enjoying it here and want to carry on playing as long as possible.

“We face Brentford this weekend and hopefully we can get a win and push for the play-offs, as it’s still a possibility.

“We have to have belief that we can make it. We have to keep going, keep working hard and see where it takes us.

“We have a really good squad here and with Didz and Bish back, that has been made stronger.”

Douglas has made 31 starts and three sub appearances and has scored three goals for the Blues.

There was me thinking Tuesday night was an all time low, this takes the biscuits! Just beggars belief so bad! Cue launching the ball out for a corner from the centre circle again!

He's not in good form at the moment, but he's not been as hopeless as some have made him out to be all season.
Assuming Tabb and probably Coke will be going out in the close season, I suspect we can expect one midfielder to come in to replace them and their wages, which would give us Skuse, Hyam, Douglas, Bishop, Bru and a new man next season, not to mention Dozzell. Let's hope the new man can match Bishop for being more forward-thinking and creative.

Must be a publicity stunt to stop people taking up the early bird season ticket promo

Well Tabb also triggered one and hasn't been treated very well this season. Infact his treatment has been nothing short of embarrassing.

In a roundabout way though, does it matter WHO plays in Cm with the defense instructed to hammer it any which way to the forwards and play rugby territory!?

Words fail me !!!!
well I suppose he is one of MMs favourites, so we have to put up with it unfortunately ??
That is probably why MM. kept putting him in the team to make up any shortfall on his games.
instead of picking a team to win matches ????

Good luck to him, quite in his rights to trigger it. Sadly, I think he is a poor player way past his best and we certainly need better. Another season of Skuse, Douglas and Hyam won't see us gain promotion. Need creativity, quality and goals in the centre and these players lack all three.

Hehe you really do have to laugh. I think MM should be given one more year, but this news certainly won't help his standing in the eyes of... well pretty much everybody really.

I presume it was triggered after 30 appearances, in which case I would have stopped playing him after game 29. We have Skuse and Hyam who both play a similar role but are much younger, and it would free wages up in the summer.

34 is quite an age for a midfielder expected to run around a lot, after all Jay Tabb is thought of as old and he is 32. Mick really talked Tabb up a lot so I wonder why he has hardly appeared this season.

I don't blame Douglas himself, he always works hard - no problem with that. I just think we need to free wages for younger players.

It must be Milne and McCarthy advising Marcus into these stupid options.I haven't heard of other clubs giving contracts like these without seeing if the player fits in with the squads they are joining.Walking football would be be more suitable to Douglas game. Its all a sorry mess and basically sticking two fingers up at the town youngsters who are trying to make advances through the club to get a contract.

It is almost as crazy as 'rewarding MM and TC with 2 years contracts in January
And people think this club is in good hands ?

Some strange decisions

People complain about the amount of negative comments on this site, surely we are in keeping with the managers negative tactics. Please what is the positive in this contract extension, only thing I could think of is at least it's only a one year extension

I thought the club had no money for new players ,but obviously plenty to throw down the drain.

Just the tonic to renew your season ticket. Can he better a hoof from the half way line to concede a corner?, surely worth paying for....????

I just wonder if MM. is trying to ruin this club with these footballing pensioners ???
Come on Mick blend some of the boys in to the team ??? you do not want to face NILES MOTHER coming to the training ground to sort you out, I know ?????

I wish Douglas would trigger a trip wire on a land mine!...incredibly slow player, he has scored the odd goal in the first half of the season but is also the dirtiest player we have - 8 yellows and a red! - Be prepared for many more starts next season (if Mick is still here).

You must all remember 'Dougie is different class'. The only shame is he is not Championship class or anywhere near. But then neither is Gerkin, Smith, Skuse, Hyam, Coke, Digby, Tabb, the Polish chap, (the name escapes me) and one or two others who I have blanked out

Can you imagine what a new manager would think if he came in the summer and was told Douglas had just been given an extension?
