QPR Midfielder Henry Linked
Saturday, 16th Apr 2016 09:38

Town boss Mick McCarthy is reported to be considering bringing QPR midfielder Karl Henry to Portman Road in the summer.

According to The Sun, the Blues manager is weighing-up whether to make a move for his former Wolves skipper if the 33-year-old isn't offered new terms by the West Londoners with his current contract up at the end of the season.

Speaking earlier in the week Henry, who was amongst the Wolves players often linked with the Blues during the early days of McCarthy’s tenure at Town, said he was yet to hear whether he would be offered a new deal at Loftus Road.

"I'm sure I’ll knock on the door at some stage," he told Get West London. "My contract is up and, if they want me, I'd love to be a part of things. We'll see how the rest of the season goes and what they want to do. Fingers crossed I can be here next year.”

The Town squad would already appear to be well covered for combative central midfielders even if Henry, who has been a regular in the QPR side this season, were to become available in the summer.

Excellent ...... just what we need ..... 33 year old competitive midfield ourneyman ....... haven't got any of those ....... should enable us to allow for the loss of Dozzell though.

Here we go again another old Freebie ? following same pattern as previous years ????
Him and Douglas make a total of nearly 70 years of age between them !!!!!

One for the future. Get him in on a 3 year contract with option for 4th.

Should complement the likes of Hyam, Skuse, Douglas and Coke perfectly.

We only need one defensive midfielder on the pitch. It should be Skuse, with Douglas and Hyam backups to him. We certainly don't need to bring in a 33-year-old.

I think that we need to remember this was from the Sun.

I don't think Mick would really consider this.

I can't remember his name, but there was a Wolves striker who had been really good but had been injured. Mick got him in. . . kept him till the end of the season . . . saw he was past it . . . and got rid.

If they want a midfield player go down the road and get George Moncur

Better than Hyam, Douglas and Coke

Very similar player to Hyam, Skuse, Coke and Douglas. Personally don't think we need another defensive midfielder as we have a fair few already, but Mick is an excellent judge of players so if he thinks we need another one then maybe we do.

I suppose it could prove useful when we want to shut down games (I.e. We are away from home and need a 0-0. Playing 4-5-1 might be a good way to get it). If we intend to play ultra-defensively next season then he could prove an excellent addition.

Interesting to see whether the club have learnt from the lack of ambition, spending and reliance on players past their best. Although just a rumour, the answer would be no if we go down the Henry route.

Haven't people here learned not to trust these kind of rumours before using it as an excuse to berate our 'lack of ambition'? It is just lazy journalism from the Sun. Old, ex-Wolves - it is the easiest way to cover a few lines in a newspaper.

Douglas, Coke, Skuse, Hyam are all average mid table players. Either lack mobility or can't pass.

Look at half of you frothing at the mouth with anger at this report. Read Phil's concluding paragraph again and note the inference.

COYB11- up until this point nobody in these comments has had a go at Mick specifically so maybe think before you post stupid comments. People have just moaned about the lack of ambition and rightly so. This may well be paper talk but is exactly the sort of player we end up signing every other summer so is very believable sadly

Being linked with/signing these types of players is the reason we'll spend yet another season in this division....if we're lucky.

Bring in some youth!!!

Amazing how riled people get about a rumour in one of the least reputable news sources in the world. Get a grip.

I think we have been constantly linked with Henry since MM took charge! Fits the criteria of someone Mick knows, trusts & would be a free transfer. However unless 2 of Skuse, Hyam, Joke or Tremendous Dougie are leaving I doubt it will happen. That said, I believe Henry is a(or was)better player than at least 3 of those 4
