Hyam Contract Talks Break Down
Saturday, 16th Apr 2016 20:03

TWTD understands that talks with midfielder Luke Hyam regarding his new Town contract have broken down.

Hyam’s current terms have an option for a further season after the current one, which manager Mick McCarthy reiterated that Town will be exercising on Thursday when he said new contracts for Hyam and Tommy Smith - who has also had an option for anorher year taken up - would be looked at in the summer.

The Blues previously began talks regarding a longer-term deal with the midfielder’s representatives in February but after several weeks of discussions the two sides reached an impasse having been unable to agree the terms of a new contract.

The 24-year-old is understood to be keen to stay with his hometown club, having come through the Blues academy before making his senior debut at Middlesbrough on the opening day of the 2010/11 campaign.

Hyam, who missed today's draw at Sheffield Wednesday as he was suspended following last week's red card against Brentford, has now made 110 starts and 16 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring three goals.

The former Northgate High School pupil spent time on loan at Rotherham earlier in the season, while other Championship clubs are believed to have shown interest in the past.

It's interesting how quickly people have forgotten how desperate we were to bring Hyam back from loan as soon as we had a few injuries. This is the real world, not the world of football manager 2016. Sorry, but we need players like Hyam at the club.

Tabb is likely to go anyway. Knudsen is our only real left back so who is going to replace him? malarcyk has played 4 games so it's hard to judge as with Toure. Varney is our replacement for Murphy and Foley is one of the best midfielders I have seen at the club in years. Clough and Pritchard would cost money we haven't got.

Well, this makes perfect sense. After all, the lad has so many options. Who does he play for next? Colchester, Southend, Canvey Island or Braintree. I await with bated breath.

we need to keep foley. If we resign Hyam I am neutral on it but Foley is vital. A true midfield General even if he's meant to be a fullback.

I'm pretty sure Luke's agent is pushing this. I'm pretty sure Like's first choice is ITFC. Whatever your views on his abilities, he is "one of our own." Maybe that shouldn't make a difference, but for me, it does. I don't mean that it should influence whether or not we keep him on. But he is owed a bit of respect.

Love Luke he's one of our own. However not good enough for championship and should move on for his own sake and free up his wage bill for a more attacking midfielder .

I've watched Hyam since he arrived in our team. Our trouble seems to be that we want him to be something he isn't instead of being pleased with what he can do. Really the role he should do is currently done by Skuse. If our management carry on wanting two holding midfielders then Hyam is our best bet. I suspect as he is a home grown player we are being tight on his contract thinking his loyalty will reduce the cost of keeping him.

I tell you watch him for one game, put your own personal attention on him, he is a very effective and important player.

Hyam can go. Average player. Being one of our own does not make him a good footballer!

Average at best and won't be missed, can you take Berra with you, he's been good but is now costing us goals and points on a regular basis.

In six years he's not improved as you'd hoped he would. Best if he's let go but you'd think Mick wouldn't let that happen.

Err, he's going nowhere

As the article says Town intended to activate the extension clause in his contract (try reading it), I'd be supprised if something more concrete wasn't in place by this time next year.

Douglas is 33 and was always signed as a shortbread solution, if anyone goes it should be him and coke. Hyam is still developing.

Hope we get Tommy tied down beyond next season fairly quickly

Don't get this build the team round Bishop. He has talent but is severely injury prone. Has only played 90 minutes s handful of times can't see him lasting a whole season.

I can never make my mind up about Luke.Sometimes he has a good game, then the next he is poor.Ok,the lad has had bad luck with injuries and struggled to regain his form and fitness but I really don't think he will get a good run under MM due to his favourites in our so called midfield. If I was him I would look for pastures new,for his own sake.Just because he is a local lad should not influence our thinking.Ok,possibly it's only a whisper about this.!!

I see him as a backup player to Skuse for the defensive midfielder role, but it seems McCarthy rates him more highly and wants to start him where possible. Hyam always works hard and is sometimes effective, so if we can get him to sign at a reasonable wage it may be worth keeping him given he is only 24. It depends really whether our scouting network can find a better option, as ideally someone who can pass better would be preferable.

Please go Hyam and take McCarthy with you some Sunday morning league side would jump at both of you because that's all your good for

Great to have a home grown talent in our side but has proved to be no where near good enough to warrant a starting place or even a place on the bench. If no money is made available then the youngsters in the U21's are a much better prospect and will be more positive than signing ageing stars who have no more than a season or two in them.

I see Bishop and Bru as our best midfielders. But we also have McDonnell, Dozzell and Benyu as well.

I would keep Hyam as someone who will allow the more creative players to express themselves. He can run and tackle all day.

Skuse, Douglas and Coke are all expendable.

Shame, better in every department other than goalscoring than Douglas and miles, miles better than Skuse, who in my opinion is Ipswich's weakest player other than Coke
