Malarczyk and Yorwerth Available, Hyam Accepts New Deal, Robinson to Stay
Friday, 29th Apr 2016 14:21

Town boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that centre-halves Josh Yorwerth and Piotr Malarczyk have been made available for transfer, while midfielder Luke Hyam has accepted a new contract and young central defender Joe Robinson will also be kept on.

“Josh Yorwerth and Peter Malarczyk they’ll be available to other clubs, they won’t be staying,” McCarthy confirmed.

Twenty-four-year-old Pole Malarczyk, who was signed from Korona Kielce last summer on a two-year deal with an option for a further season, is currently on loan at Southend having made three cup starts and three Championship sub appearances for the Blues.

“He’s not as good as what we’ve got, simple as that,” McCarthy said regarding Malarczyk, who seems likely to return to Poland.

Yorwerth also signed a two-year deal with an option for a further season last summer, having joined after leaving Cardiff City following a trial at the tail end of 2014/15.

The Wales U21s international has spent most of this season on loan with League Two Crawley Town.

“Josh Yorwerth’s done OK at Crawley, where the manager’s just left, of course,” McCarthy said. “I spoke to Josh the other day. I’ve already spoken to Peter, I told him before he went off to Southend. And Josh, I spoke to him on Tuesday this week and said that he would be available.”

He says young central defender Joe Robinson, 19, who has recently been on loan at Woking will be kept on for next season.

“Robbo’s a bit behind those but he’ll be staying, he’ll be the captain of the U21s team,” the Town boss confirmed.

“He’s a great example, he’s one of the youngest in his year and I’ll be brutally honest, six months ago I’d be thinking I probably wouldn’t have kept him.

“But he made such a rapid improvement and he’s such a great kid and such a great character and an example to others, I think based on that he’s worth that chance.

“He’s a young one in his year and as we all know young scholars, young academics, young professional footballers, if they’re almost 10 or 11 months behind some of the others, their peers, they do take a bit of catching up.

“He’s worth it on that basis and he’ll in the U21s, if not we’ll loan him out somewhere because he did well at Woking. That’s his future at the club and hopefully he improves enough to get in the team.”

Meanwhile McCarthy says Luke Hyam has accepted the offer of new terms, understood to be a new two-year contract, the Blues having already confirmed that they are taking an option for next season included in the midfielder's existing contract.

“I had a message from his agent telling me he’s going to accept the offer, and I hope that’s the case,” the Town boss added.

Exactly which goons do we have watching matches in Poland and recommending dead-legs like Malarczyk? Presumably the same ones watching games at our training ground, which is where Yorwerth was mistakenly taken on. That said, Yorwerth in particular didn't get much of a go here : no-one in football these days remembers what Bill Shankly said, but essentially it was never to get rid of a player till he's had a proper go in the 1st team. The prime example at this club being Brian Talbot of course : Bobby Robson saw him as an overweight carthorse of a player who'd been in the reserves for about 5 years when injuries forced BR to play him in the first team ; the rest, as they say, is history.

Bit surprised about Yorwerth seemed like he did pretty well for us in the league cup earlier this season

Shame about Hyam. Was hoping Hyam would refuse to sign a new contract

Will be well away from the starting 11 next season hopefully

understandable really as we still have chambers, Berra, smith as first choice and then still have digby and Clarke as backup. Got to trust mick about yorwerth, out of all those who have left town under mick, none have gone on to anything better

Central Midfield is where we need our biggest changes for the lack of goals & creativity yet we hand out new contracts to Douglas & Hyam! Early concerning signs for next season...

Thought Yorwerth did OK in cup tie against Stevenage, but did get caught for their goal although made up for it with a goal. This probably highlighted his level, and he has been unable to get in the Crawley side of late.

Polish Pete looked worse and his performance at Pompey was probably the icing on the cake.

Can take or leave Hyam really, doesn't bother me either way, he's OK but keeping him on I would ship out Douglas.

So many centre halfs, Tommy Smith, Christophe Berra, Luke Chambers, Matt Clarke, Joe Robinson, George Fowler, Chris Smith, Paul Digby

Need to get goals in the midfield area, couple of decent wingers, decent right back

I'd like to see Clarke play next year give him a run of games lets have some competition for places next season though

The result I'm afraid of signing cheap options last pre season. Neither were good enough. Hyam isn't good enough either in my opinion and this is from so done who had always rated him. The problem is we have Skuse and Douglas, we don't need another defensive player, we need attacking goalscoring midfielders. Hyam okay back up if Douglas goes, but next season only one defensive central midfielder should start with one back up.

I would say Coke, Toure and Douglas need to go as well along with Tabb and Varney.

Both were worth a punt at the time, who knows they could have turned out to be another mings so don't blame him for getting them in. Good that mick understands when to get rid of players that aren't at our level.

Good luck to the both of them if they leave.

As for hyam no idea why he didn't jump at a new contract but he's worth keeping around if anything just for the fight that he has, being a local boy, could be crucial in a top 2/playoff dogfight against Norwich towards the end of the season...

Not really surprised with these two, to be honest. Was only a matter of time before Mick said "You go Yorwerth, and I'll go mine..."

Agree entirely with jas0999
We only need Skuse as our holding player
Unfortunately I cannot see McCarthy changing his ways
We need a box to box midfielder who can score goals
More pace throughout the Team
Players in their strongest positions
As for Malarczyk, you usually get what you pay for (Mings being the exception). I remember his first appearance and ok I know he'd just arrived but apart from the Manager you could see he was way out of his depth.
I'd rather see us trim down the staff and bring in a couple of quality players. A creative midfielder and ball playing centre -half would make the fans happy
Trouble is ME would have to spend some money and would MM play them?

Malarczyck was a cheap gamble that didn't pay off. It begs the question though, that if he isn't good enough now, was he good enough when we signed him?? When we signed him he was close to a call up to the national team, so perhaps hasn't settled or hasn't shown his true potential. Bit more suprised about Yowerth, but it is all a bit dammning of the ultra cheap transfer policy

Surprised about Yorwerth. Hyam ? Seriously ! Shows MM's intentions already .

Hyam should go he gives nothing to the side unless you want him to break someone's leg

2 more "worth a punt" signings that surprisingly, haven't lasted their contract...

Henshall, Connolly, Stewart, Bajner, list goes on

Staggered about Yorwerth. I saw him against Doncaster and Man Utd and thought he was brilliant in both.

Think it might have been a straight choice between Clarke and Yowerth who was going to stay and provide back up

We are so far away from a promotion side , it really does make me wonder what we will be talking about this time next year.

tractor boy Edwardo says "All those who have left town under Mick have not gone onto do better",no because most were crap in the first place.

With the exception of Cresswell,Mings and Jonny Parr, the latter being frozen out,as have many other players he brought in who have hardly got a kick in 1st team!

What a waste of wages.

Going back to Sir Alf,cant ever remember Manager who has got through so many players

Is it just me or has MM 'form' in taking on players (is that a non sequitur in this case?) who barely ever play a game and then get released?

Few weeks ago I seen an article on here how he was happy with the polish fella. Sick of micks lies. Get him out. Ive never been so unhappy as a itfc fan as I have this season. Boring horrid football. Thanks but no thanks your not for us

Anybody with a release clause of £8000 from a top flight polish side sets alarm bells ringing from the not good category, alas has proved to be the case! As for yorwerth, never saw him live so reserve judgement, seems as though Clarke has progressed more than him and is seen better back up,but why give him a 2 year contract off the back of training and trial games. As for Hyam, beggars belief, don't need anymore, sideways, backwards, hoof, booking midfielders. Thanks but no thanks!

The thing that really concerns me about this news is that Hyam is signing a 2 year contract!! The fella is absolutely useless and contributes nothing to the team!! It begs belief that he's been offered a new contract and has me very worried about the managers intentions moving forward. It also makes me wonder if he really knows what he's doing!! Can now see perhaps why Tommy Oar decided he needed to get away from the place!! Just saying!!
