Town Facing Competition for Feeney
Saturday, 21st May 2016 10:05

Town are reportedly facing competition for ex-loanee Liam Feeney from Birmingham City and other Championship clubs. The 29-year-old is out of contract this summer having not been offered new terms by relegated Bolton Wanderers.

According to the Bolton News the Midlanders are among a number of other sides interested in the winger with wages said to be a sticking point in his negotiations with Town.

Speaking on the final day of the season, manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that the Blues were in talks with Feeney, who joined Town on loan in March and made seven starts and two sub appearances, scoring once, regarding a permanent deal.

“We’re talking to him and we’re talking to his agent,” he said. “I’d like him to stay and he would like to stay and if we can come to a mutually beneficial deal then that’s what will happen. If we don’t, then we won’t.”

He'd be a decent addition, but let's not break the bank.
LondonBlue99 There's surely no way our highest earner is only on 6k a week?! I also don't believe our highest earner is Chambers.

Decent player in his 20's..long gone...wouldn't get a regular game at Colchester..staggered that MM considers him worth any deal...but there again...

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe
Mr Feeny can GO...

He will also be expecting a signing on fee as part of any deal
so in the total outlay for a 29 year old
he's not worth the risk
Didn't exactly pull up trees like Fraser did in his time here, before that injury curtailed things

Bolton deserve all they are getting if they were paying a Championship level player £17k per week.

Londonblue? Chambers our top paid atvaboutv£6k a week? Don't think so. He and others on much more than that. Our wage bill last season was one of the largest in the division. If it a choice between us and Birmingham, he won't go there as their top paid player is on £5k a week. Hope he signs but won't be a disaster if he doesn't.

Look elsewhere, need to be chasing young players who want to improve and who can offer the team something, not a money grabbing has been who would not be a definite starter

Floridaboy. He's hardly a has been. Was one of the few bright sides of the last few games of the season. Money grabber? If u were earning £17 granda week in ur job, wouldn't u want to get as close to that as I could Togo elsewhere? So of course hes hedging his bets just now.

I think we all know our highest paid player is on more than 6k a week. We secured David mcgoldrick on a new deal and he could have easily let his contract run down and walked into a new club for a sizeable signing on fee and maybe up to if lucky 15 a 20k per week. So based on this feeney is not worth top money in my opinion. We would be better off taking a chance on a up and coming promising wide player from the lower leagues.

that other teams want his services for free, worth offering a good deal to me.

Too old looking for his last decent payday no thanks. Young and hungry with a point to prove is the way forward for Town. I can understand getting in a player whos been round the block like Mowbray for his experience this guy has been a bit part player. Move on plenty more out there if the Management team bother to look.

I cannot believe some of the negative comments towards Feeney - probably armchair keyboard warrior stay at home fans who get all their match news from BBC radio Suffolk phone-ins. Feeney was our standout performer since he arrived. Paying him as much as our top earners is well worth it. If he seriously demands too much, then let him go, fair enough, but he'll be an asset wherever he goes...

Surely we will need to sign him we do not have any even half-decent wingers
that we actually own
