New Signing Webster Out to Impress Boss Friday, 1st Jul 2016 09:55 New signing Adam Webster, who formally joins the Blues today, says he’s settling into life at Portman Road and is looking forward to the season starting so he can impress manager Mick McCarthy. The 21-year-old agreed to join Town from Portsmouth last month for a fee understood to be in the region of £700,000 with fellow centre-half Matt Clarke joining Pompey. Webster, who has signed a three-year deal with an option for a further season, has been with the rest of the squad for pre-season training this week but has been unable to take a full part as he is recovering from the ankle injury which forced him to miss the League Two play-offs. However, manager McCarthy is hopeful that the former England U18 and U19 international will be fit for the start of the season. “I’ve settled in well with the lads and everyone has been working hard since we returned for pre-season,” Webster told Ipswich Player HD. “My aims are just to get myself fully fit really and have a good pre-season. It’s a step up from League Two in every sense, but it’s a challenge I wanted to take and something I feel I’m ready for. “I just want to hit the ground running and do as well as I can to impress the gaffer. I’m looking forward to the new season and my future at Ipswich now.” Meanwhile, Clarke's time at Fratton Park similarly officially starts today, the 19-year-old Town academy product having signed a three-year deal with Pompey, where he spent the season on loan last season. Elsewhere, former Town loanee Andros Townsend has joined Crystal Palace from Newcastle United for a fee of £13 million, signing a five-year deal. Photo:ITFC
