Wednesday, 24th Aug 2016 14:02

Former Town striker Dalian Atkinson was given CPR for more than half an hour having been Tasered by police officers, the inquest into his death heard this morning before being adjourned. Atkinson, 48, died 90 minutes after the Taser was deployed in Telford on Monday 15th August.

The inquest at Shirehall in Shrewsbury was told that medics at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford tried in vain to save the former Blues frontman for 35 minutes.

Home Office pathologist Dr Olaf Biedrzycki was unable to confirm the cause of death, concluding that it is ”to be advised, pending further investigation”.

Atkinson’s death was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), which has put two officers from the West Mercia force under criminal investigation and served them with gross misconduct notices.

Coroner John Ellery adjourned the inquest until November 22nd, saying: "It is subject to review pending completion of the IPCC investigation, which I am told will take nine months."
