Williams Set to Return
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2016 08:55

Crystal Palace’s Jonny Williams is set to return to the Blues for a fourth spell.

The South London Press revealed the Blues' renewed interest in the 22-year-old this morning and TWTD understands that Wales international Williams is to rejoin on a season-long loan.

Talks are still ongoing but the deal is likely to go through with Town having hoped the signing might have been confirmed last night.

Williams initially joined the Blues in February 2014 and became a big fans' favourite during the remainder of that season.

The Pembury-born midfielder, who is contracted to Palace until 2018, returned in the September but had his spell curtailed by a thigh injury suffered in the Watford game in the November.

He came back to Town for a third spell late in the season but made only two sub appearances before suffering a recurrence of the problem in an U21s game.

Williams, who played for Wales at the European Championships in the summer, spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest and with the MK Dons last season.

He suffered an ankle injury in pre-season and so is unlikely to be fit for a few weeks.

Town are looking to add strength in depth ahead of this evening's 11pm deadline with emergency loans not available to EFL clubs this season.

Williams is expected to be one of two or three signings today with the Blues also looking to add to their strikers with Daryl Murphy having left for Newcastle over the weekend. We understand bids have been lodged and discussions are likely to continue throughout the day.

loan or permanent?

would be happy with a permanent move, but a loan will just obstruct the progress of the likes of dozzel and mcdonnel. Also, there is the problem of his injuries. Its said that hes injured at the moment.

I love Williams and really enjoyed his first spell at the club but I question whether he is still capable of playing in the Championship after what that Watford thug did to him at Portman Road. He has been injury prone ever since.

We could end up owing him a testimonial.... without ever signing him.

Great player, would love to see him return, has that little bit of magic about him, biggest concern is can he stay fit long enough to be of use? Just hope so.....

Hmm I'm going to be one of the only people not excited by this. We need players who are going to play 35-40 games without being injured. We already have McGoldrick who can't go a week without getting injured. I thought he was injured now too?

Love it to be a permanent though. This is the most exciting deadline days in years!!

Would be brilliant. Hopefully it's for the full season and no recall clause.

Full faith in MM & the gang to get us a striker today as well. My fingers are going to be tired from hitting F5 by 11pm!

Dozzell and McDonnell are both very young, and only one of them has realistically been in and around the first team. I'd rather take a player who held their own in the EUROs and would be one of the best players in the league.

One of the best players we've had at Portman Road in the past ten years but not sure how it would work considering he's injured until late October. But i'm all for it, a class above our current midfielders. Super Joniesta!

Surely permanent if he is going to join us with an injury?

What's the current injury he has ?

Wish people would stop going on about Dozzell. Hopefully MM will get him out on loan so he gets regular games. Colchester wouldn't do him any harm, especially under McGreal

Dozzell will not be ready for at least a year or two and hopefully will still be here when he is. Williams yes please. I know he gets smashed but I did like what I saw at the euros

If we had him on loan for the season but got just 20 games out of him , that may just make the difference between top 6 and mid table isn. Fact is he offers that dynamic creating ability ,draws players towards him and opens space for others. GET IT DONE

I love Williams but like most are saying on here he is injury prone! With all of the movement going on at Palace I would try to buy him permanently. By doing this we could manage his fitness properly, don't think we would have to pay over the odds to get him either!

Hopefully this is like the Ward transfer, was rumoured as loan and then turned out to be a permanent deal. Fingers crossed ...

Its a risk worth taking, when fully fit he is key for creativity and getting us in positions to score. Him and wardy in midfield is mouth-watering for us.

Would love this to happen. Doubt it is permanent, feel like the fee would be too much for us. Even if we get him for the season and can get a good run of games it could make a massive difference!

The title of the story makes it sound so certain but I'm trying to not get my hopes up right now even though I'm very excited!

I thought when we were looking for a replacement for Murphy that it meant we were in for a striker, not just someone to replace his record of the player with the most loan spells with us...

Seriously though, as RKD said, I'd be happy to have him back, given how he didn't look at all out of place at the Euros rather than relying too heavily on youngsters that aren't quite ready, and hope he can put his injuries behind him.
