Town's Attempts to Add Go Into Final Hours
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2016 18:24

Town’s attempts to make further additions to the squad are set to stretch into the final hours of the transfer window with a striker remaining manager Mick McCarthy’s main target. The window closes at 11pm this evening.

As previously reported, bids have been made for targets and owner Marcus Evans is involved in ongoing negotiations regarding what we understand would be permanent moves.

Despite the limited time in which deals can be done - EFL clubs are no longer able to sign players on emergency loans outside transfer windows - Evans won't pay above and beyond the Blues' valuation of a player just to get someone signed before the deadline.

In addition to a frontman to replace Daryl Murphy, who joined Newcastle at the weekend, the Blues are also believed to be keen on adding another wideman.

Burnley’s Michael Kightly now looks less likely to be that player, despite the Clarets being close to adding Polish winger Kamil Grosicki from French club Rennes.

Earlier today the Blues added Jonny Williams for his fourth loan spell from Crystal Palace for the season.

Yesterday, trialist striker Leon Best - who played for the U21s in today's 2-1 friendly defeat to Southend at Playford Road - signed a one-year deal with an option for a further campaign, while Leicester's Tom Lawrence signed on a season-long loan.

Selling Murphy and not securing a replacement would be a real disappointment. Best is a decent squad player addition and cover for the injured McGoldrick. We MUST sign a replacement for Murphy otherwise it was pointless selling him. Permanent deal needed as well. Two loans and a cheap freebie to show so far. Not great in my opinion, although equally not bad additions either.

I think the next few hours will determine how we will we do this season. No more signings could mean a tough struggle to reach the top six, and I think is a striker should be our main priority tonight as we are looking quite thin up there right now. Interested by the winger bid too, I personally thought it would be Kightly. Whatever happens, it's going to be an interesting end to the deadline day for us for once!

With Murphy gone I wouldn't be too upset to not bring in another big front man, might encourage the less direct style to flourish. And only three out of McGoldrick, Pitman, Sears, Best, Ward, Grant, Williams, Lawrence, Dozzell (and possibly one other) can play up there.

Wouldn't mind a bit of money going towards finding one of those mythical natural right backs we've heard so many stories of! Not as exciting, but possibly more necessary.

I know they are trying to get a good deal but clubs wanna sell them way over priced

It won't happen with tightwad trying to get someone on the cheap as per normal in my opinion. Leon Best on a free Reg Varney are our new strikers.

What a crucial few hours then. We don't want a panic buy. However if we don't make another signing I would consider our squad weaker now than a few days ago due to the loss of key player Murphy (with Malarczky and Stewart also leaving). Best could be hit or miss, as could Lawrence who is only a loan. Williams could be great if he gets over injury, but he's already out until October.

We really have strengthened our midfield, no doubt about that. We need someone to hold the ball up so these players can make their runs though. A lot of responsibility would rest with Pitman if we don't sign someone quickly.

Think we could do worse than Peter Crouch if a viable long term option isn't available

Greenun says we are in "advanced talks" regarding a striker....?

but but who knows if fees get accepted then it down to contracts....

They are doing there best to sign someone we did try Marlon Watkins from Barnsley but they wanted £3/4ML But we didn't wanna pay that

Hey guys. While I agree we really should be trying to get a deal for a striker done today it won't be thecendcof the world if we don't neither. Can still sign out of contract players outside the window. Know for a fact that Hal RobsonKanu and Victor Anichebe both available. But Yes, let's hope we do get a deal over the line today

Kanu has gone to West Brom or is going there, Victor Anichebe won't join us so we need to buy a striker before 23:00

Now i may not know the ins and outs of this but does the player have to actually put pen to paper and what about the medical issue etc, i don,t get it, so if this player is for instance from Sunderland, how the heck do we get him from there, do a mediacl and contract signed, i dunno, all done by fax/via the net, can someone enlighten me?

A 2 million pound striker would be nice COYB

GTRKing added 19:12 - Aug 31
If he is to far away he will have medical up there & contracts done via fax but if we are doing deals players will be at the club now or for some time and if no fee agreed players will leave not signed
