No New Injuries But Changes Possible
Monday, 12th Sep 2016 13:50

Town have no new injuries ahead of Tuesday’s game at Derby County but manager Mick McCarthy says he could make changes to his side.

McCarthy says no one suffered a knock during Friday’s controversial 2-1 defeat at Reading - “We’re fine, that’s good news” - but that he could shuffle his pack.

“Possibly, but they’ll all have recovered from it. It was Friday night so it’s not too demanding in terms of Saturday-Tuesday,” he said.

“I think they’ll all be OK and I was delighted with the performance, we played well.”

The Town boss still expects loanee Jonny Williams to be ready to make his fourth Blues debut next month.

“I think he will be fit some time in October,” he added. “He was ahead of schedule, he told me when I spoke to him he’d started running. Hopefully he will be back as soon as he can be.”

Luke Hyam will discover whether his knee problem requires surgery next week: “He’ll get the news two weeks from when he saw [the specialist] and I think it was last week he saw him.”

Striker David McGoldrick is also still sidelined with an ankle injury and remains on schedule for a return to action in late October or early November.

“He is five weeks in and we were talking about 10 to 12 because he didn’t have to have the operation. So, as they say in America, do the math,” McCarthy continued.

Meanwhile, the Blues boss says he will not be taking his interest in former Carlisle and Tottenham full-back Alex McQueen, who played for the U23s at Barnsley on Friday, any further: “He just played in the game, he won’t be coming back.”

Probably get 100 down arrows but we didn't play too badly second half as an away display vs a side who first half looked very decent.

Need Bishop back firing though - wonder if Best/ Lawrence may make their debuts. Here's hoping.

Currie 10 - completely agree with you, second half we were the better team and created some good chances. Ward and Pitman in particular stood out for me.

Think there will be one or two changes tomorrow, can see Lawrence or Grant being given a start.

There must surely be changes. Anything else would be inexplicable.

We all know that Mick likes to watch the games over again the next day... I think somebody must have switched the tape?

Why would we need a right back when "we played well " !!!
How many times did our full backs get beaten letting crosses into the box ?
How many times did we get behind them and put in dangerous balls ?
How many saves did their keeper make ?
How many tackles did Skuse make in the game ?
How many headers did Kermogant win in the area that could have dropped to anyone ?
How deep do our wingers Ward and Sears have to play to cover our poor full backs making us 4-5-1 rather than the 4-3-3 MM likes to pretend he is playing ?
How isolated was Pitman the whole game ?
Why did we take off the only two midfielders that looked to be going forward in Bru and Ward ?
Why is Varney on the bench ahead of the likes of Dozzell etc when he was released in the summer for not being good enough ?
That performance was far from something this club should be delighted with , it was bereft of ideas , class and professionalism which cost us against a side in massive transition of style had a shocker on the night but still took 3 points

Yes, it was a horrendous game and I agree with the posts about second half being slightly better, but am I the only one who though Bru was one of our better players?

The problem is we cant play the way we are without Murphy, you cant punt balls up to Pitman. He is best when he runs on to a through ball, not a long hopeful one.And with the ball to his feet not to his head. A team of more cultured midfielders is needed to get the best out of him

I thought we played well against Reading, considering we were the away team and Bialkowski was never really threatened barr one or two saves. The "put em under pressure" worked very well and generally we closed down space very well, I thought that was enjoyable to watch :)
Bru was good, put himself about and got some good passes and deliveries in to the box.
Grant Ward was good, showed great work rate and ability.
I really think the team is on the cusp of a good run, players are starting to gel in the system and the energy is definitely there. Bish is getting close to fitness and Best looks to be chomping at the bit. I cant wait to see him with the shackles off.

Reading away also confirmed to me that Tommy Smith is not a footballer.......... he's a good defender but his touch and ball skills are pathetic for a professional footballer. Want to see more of Webster please.

I'm still pretty annoyed about Friday night, the reason being we did play quite well at times and moved the ball around a bit better compared to last season. Unfortunately though we were not clinical enough, to beat a poor Reading side, who are still finding their feet under Stam and are trying to learn the way he wants them to play. They were really there for the taking as they were shaky and had mistakes in them. Mick was nowhere neat positive enough and the fact he is always happy to settle for a point away, is in my eyes a reason why performances can be somewhat negative. If the manager says things like "I wouldn't get off the bus if you offered me a point now" what message does this give the players?? We really should have put Reading to the sword and didn't

No... we didn't play too badly against Reading especially second half!

But it depends on your aspirations - had we got a draw and you think we're a 6th place team then maybe it's just!

But the other argument is, it was 2 poor teams playing a poor game of football!

Webster MUST come back into the team!
Bru MUST be dropped - not because he is appalling but he just isn't good enough!
I stuck up for Dougie last week after beginning to slate him - did anybody see him play Friday night because i didn't - MUST be dropped!
And I honestly think time is running out for Freddie - he didn't play badly at all - but our wingers need to be good going forward not just tracking back!

Webster in for smith - makes too many mistakes and call it unlucky but we seem to concede too many goals after its taken a deflection off him.

Bishop in for Douglas - just don't do enough for me

Lawrence in for Sears - so out of form

Best in for pitman - pits is great but he is more impact player for me

MM has said that players will only get the opportunity to come into the team when the team has underperformed and / or lost. Being seen to be 'delighted' with the performance ensures that there is no contradiction and he is able to roll out the same eleven for the next match.

MM said the Preston game was excellent as well, that's two games where we have played worse than last season and I didn't think that was possible. What is the point in these creative players when they all sit on the bench getting splinters ?? Skuse/Douglas/Bru shocking, Pittman up front on his own, he can't run for more than 10 minutes. We have Derby, Villa, Leeds and Brighton to play this month, we could easily win zero points in September
