No New Injuries But Changes Possible Monday, 12th Sep 2016 13:50
Town have no new injuries ahead of Tuesday’s game at Derby County but manager Mick McCarthy says he could make changes to his side.
McCarthy says no one suffered a knock during Friday’s controversial 2-1 defeat at Reading - “We’re fine, that’s good news” - but that he could shuffle his pack.
“Possibly, but they’ll all have recovered from it. It was Friday night so it’s not too demanding in terms of Saturday-Tuesday,” he said.
“I think they’ll all be OK and I was delighted with the performance, we played well.”
The Town boss still expects loanee Jonny Williams to be ready to make his fourth Blues debut next month.
“I think he will be fit some time in October,” he added. “He was ahead of schedule, he told me when I spoke to him he’d started running. Hopefully he will be back as soon as he can be.”
Luke Hyam will discover whether his knee problem requires surgery next week: “He’ll get the news two weeks from when he saw [the specialist] and I think it was last week he saw him.”
Striker David McGoldrick is also still sidelined with an ankle injury and remains on schedule for a return to action in late October or early November.
“He is five weeks in and we were talking about 10 to 12 because he didn’t have to have the operation. So, as they say in America, do the math,” McCarthy continued.
Meanwhile, the Blues boss says he will not be taking his interest in former Carlisle and Tottenham full-back Alex McQueen, who played for the U23s at Barnsley on Friday, any further: “He just played in the game, he won’t be coming back.”

The performance on Friday was OK but not delightful as MM would have it. We're not scoring and we are giving away silly goals. We can't or don't want to hold onto the ball for more than 30 seconds. Neither Bru or Bish are the answer to our creative midfield woes atm. Bishop will get better I'm not sure about Bru. Maybe Feeddie could do a job in ther til Jonny comes marching home. When Reading only watered their defensive half of the pitch at half time it was obvious they were going to play a passing game from the back building from El Habsi. We should have switched to 4-4-2 to counter that. Having said all that I think we're doing ok and once we start scoring we'll surprise a few teams starting at Derby. COYB
Backtheblues - I'm no great fan of Douglas but I was there Friday and it was him that was leading the midfield out to support Pitman 2nd half to put Reading under pressure high up the pitch, and that was when we started to look the side more likely to win it for a while. Didn't do a lot on the ball, but without him doing that we'd have looked as lost as we did first half.
Bishop nowhere near ready to start a game in my opinion so would like Lawrence to be given a start. Agree Webster for Smith but the worry is Ince and/or Anya coming down our right flank as both will tear Chambers apart. Until this problem is addressed I fear we will always leak goals which is a shame as I like Chambers as a Club man but not as a right back. Fear the worst tomorrow but hope for the best.
Douglas did twice as much as Skuse on Friday , put in more tackles , won more headers and tried to support Pitman in closing down,, don't rate him very highly but he is doing hell of lot more than Skuse who offers nothing and rarely breaks into a run or sweat
Please MM don't make changes, the way we play is a joy to behold, the intricate passing and telling through balls gives our dynamic forward line chance after chance. Our right back is so assured Barcelona are monitoring him and are expected to put in a massive bid for him. The midfield only thinks of moving forward making unexpected late runs into the area to score a lot of goals. The defence is the Rock the team is based on. Our only problem is the goalkeeper who constantly does not cover himself in glory, floundering and generally giving the team the jitters.
I'd have Webster in for Smith Grant for Bru Lawrence for Sears.
The rest the same, including Douglas. He played well against Wolves and Norwich and we may need a bit of experience against Derby. Bishop looks off the pace at the moment, I'd have Bru ahead of him. Pitman did well against Reading but needs better service and certainly better support than Sears provided. Sears did his defensive duties well but his attacking threat is non-existent at the moment.
Have a look at Derby's stats. We all know that past performance is no predictor of future results BUT they've only scored once so far this season , and they haven't scored at home at all ! More of the same from them tomorrow would be very handy. Give it a real go Mick and get us smiling again. a thrilling 0-0 would do. PS If you do make changes Mr M DON'T drop Bialkowski whatever you do.
Sears is not a winger though, so he shouldn't be played there. If we are going to play 4-3-3 then Grant and Lawrence should both be brought in. Webster should return as well. Until we get a proper right back though it's all pretty irrelevant really.
Show does a manager reckon his team played well when they had 21% of the possession of the ball in the first half. Both of the managers must have very powerful rose tinted glasses so powerful that they never saw much of the disgraceful performance that was dished up by both teams. If no changes are made tonight then one can presume McCarthy must remove the old,Chambers,Smith,Scuse and Sears. At least Douglas has made up his mind to join in the match this season and not carry on with attitude of last season.Thatd got something of my chest before I hold my arms up in exasperation tonight.
Why the hell do we keep harping on about this man changing - it just isn't going to happen.
He is what he is - and he couldn't care a flying fcuk - so let the numpties put up with it - and the rest of us stay away until it changes.
Otherwise - the same old, same old will be talked about for evermore on here.
The only thing that will change is the day and the date - and the opposition - all else will remain the same - square peg in round hole at RB etc; etc; etc; etc; - and mid table at best come May 2017.
Although I agree there was a period in the second half where we did play well, unfortunately taking the full ninety five odd minutes into account, this wasn't a good performance. First half was generally poor and as soon as we made a change to pretty much cling on to a point we were also average.
Overall, it was a case of two very poor sides playing out a dull and boring championship game. Reading were there for the taking and we lost.
Why have you written "controversial defeat" Phil? Where was the controversy? I'd say the softest penalty was ours in truth. If you play for a point and don't attack a side until it's too late then you get what you deserve. When we started to get on top we had the power on the bench to open them up and go for the win but we never because we'd rather take a point than risk losing, that's the bottom line. It's not controversial. It's unambitious.
"Played really" well? And Mick wonders why he gets abuse and called a c**t. Really? When you mug off your own fans with ridiculous statements then you open yourself for retaliation. And then some moron will start singing, "Super Mick" in the stand. Beggars belief and borders on perverse.
I think when Phil wrote the above headline it was wishful thinking,as I heard Mick say he was delighted with the performance, and thought his team played well.
He clearly is not setting his sights too high this season if he is pleased nay delighted with a performance like that.
Reading were there for the taking, and instead as usual he was looking for an away draw which explains why his teams give away so many late goals.Does this man have a positive bone in his body, and does it not occur to him that had Town scored another goal then the late pen would only have been an equalizer.
Have retained my season ticket at PR but have hardly been to an away match since this Dinosaur took over; always listened on Radio Suffolk or watched the away games on Sky.However after listening to away games since Radio Orwell,am seriously considering watching the Champions League games on BT instead tomorrow night,as despite the Headline I expect this stubborn Yorky to start with the same team, although he just might bring on one or two of the new boys especially if we are trailing.
Every time I hope he proves me wrong;but to date he sticks with his favourites win lose or draw.It is so frustrating.
Blueboy1981, why didn't you think I was serious, surely you can see the superb way our team plays without a thought of not going for a win in every match. Oh no that's just my crystal ball showing a future game when MM is a distant bad memory, I can live in hope can't I.
