Pardew: Williams May Need New Start Elsewhere
Friday, 16th Sep 2016 10:48

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has questioned whether Jonny Williams, who joined the Blues for a fourth loan spell at the end of last month, has a future at Selhurst Park.

Wales international Williams, 22, has spent much of the last three seasons out on loan with Town, the MK Dons and Nottingham Forest and most recently played a league game for the Eagles in September 2014. He is contracted to the South Londoners until the summer of 2018.

“We have almost had a discussion in that does Jonny need a new environment?” Pardew told London News Online.” Does he need a new start? It just seems to not be working here.

“Jonny and I just can’t seem to come together. In pre-season he’s fit and then gets injured again. It was a terrible tackle at Farnborough.

“We are at deadline day and I’m looking at my numbers and thinking I can’t see Jonny getting a game. I can’t keep him here and have him as a substitute.

“Sometimes luck plays a part. I don’t think I’ve seen him play three continuous games since I’ve been here, so it’s almost impossible for me to really think this time he should have stayed.

“The more chance I’ve got is to send him to Ipswich with the same clause as Sullay [Kaikai, who joined Brentford on loan] to have a look. They are two players who, potentially, could boost our season.”

The deal which saw Williams, who is expected to be back from the ankle injury he suffered at Farnborough in pre-season in October, join Town for the season is reported to allow Palace to recall him in January.

Going by that pic he's a failed clone of Mick McCarthy ;)

It's a shame we couldn't sign him permanently then, on a deal reflecting his injury record. So now if he returns in November and hits good form in December, Palace could take him back. It's hard to enjoy a player with the uncertainty of a recall if he does well.

ah, so the "offload " talk. has finally begun by his patent Club.

Should we chance it or not ......is he just another Didsy? Sadly I think he is.

Oh right. So he can get himself fit here and start playing regularly and be in form and PARDEW can just call him back? What idiot at ITFC agreed to that when we signed him on a 'season' loan? Laughable

I am unsure what clause Mr Pardew believes he has but under the nee loan rules you are not able to recall loan players. I can only assume he believes it is a 6 month loan and not a season long loan. Phil do you have any clarity?

Is it me or is someone taking the p!ss here???
So we get him fit, give him a couple of games and a Christmas party then Palace can have him back if things aren't going right for them???
Mmmmmm?

But if Pardew doesn't see a future for him at Palace, and doesn't want him to just be there as a substitute either, what is the likelihood of him being recalled. If it works out for him during this spell, I think it's likely we'd sign him permanently, without too big a fee being necessary - either in Jan or at the end of the season.

Ok cards on the table Palace. Let him go somewhere he's appreciated rather than trying to have your cake and eat it by loaning him out then taking him back when he's fit only for him to sit on the bench..

Anyway, fitness isn't the point. It's injury. Of course I could be wrong but as I saw it from lower North Stand the boy from Watford should've not only been sent off but should have been ashamed of himself - as should his team mates - for his tackle on Williams and for his fake all innocence reaction to it. IN MY OPINIION it was a cold, and cynical tackle, from behind, that could have ended Williams' career and looked as if it was intended at least to end his game. Win the ball ? You're kidding. Tragic that Willam's got hit again - at Farnborough for fs.

Did either of the perpetrators apologise ?

When Kevin Beattie broke Stoke City and England's John Ritchie's leg in a fifty fifty tackle one dark knight at PR you could hear it snap, and Beattie was distraught. Could have been him, and I don't think Beattie ever tackled the same way again.

I leave it with you.

Why is everyone having a dig at Palace and Pardew?
He's their player at the end of the day. They are doing us a favour by loaning him to us, and we are doing them a favour by hopefully getting him fit by playing games.
I would guess we will be paying minimal wages for him (and probably only on a pay as you play basis) - I see it as a win-win for both clubs.

Interesting!

If he can prove his fitness with us maybe a deal could be done. What we cannot afford though is another McGoldrick so a decent run of games is the key to what happens next.

Reading between the lines it looks like Pardew hasn't got room for him so I expect he'll be off-loaded in January. So for us it'll depend on if we need him and how much they want. Hopefully he'll come cheap with usual add-ons.
So lets look forward to him getting fit and playing part in our success. I don't think he's injury prone just victim of two horrendous tackles

To be fair if he doesn't get fit and start playing games continuously we may want to send him back in January to allow us to get someone else . Good sense by both clubs

Only thing laugable above is the lack of knowledge displayed by some. This exactly the kind of unwarranted criticism that is all to common on here these days.

If no fee paid for the loan then clubs can recall during the transfer window. If this is the case excellent bit of business.

I doubt we could afford him if they were to sell him...I reckon they'd want at least £1m-£1.5m for him. Is he injury prone or was it a couple of bad tackles? I'm not sure. IF we could afford JW, it'd be a bit of a risk.

See how he gets on when he's fit in the next few weeks.

I have a horrible suspicion that this signing was 'one for the fans'. Why else loan an injury prone, injured player who won't play for weeks unless to divert attention away from a lack of transfer window spending and the failure to sign a replacement for Murphy?

Given his history of injuries a loan was the best option. Hopefully he is back playing in October and stay fit. The stats are not great - less than 100 league appearances in 5 seasons. But if all works out well we will be able to sign him once we are promoted!!

Pardew is an odd fish. Pretty blunt.

I would suggest a sensible haircut is the first thing he needs.

Do you mean Pardew or Jonny?

Sign him anyway, at worst he gets injured and we can use him as a mascot or glorified ball boy

This recall clause has come as a bit of a surprise, hopefully by then Jonny will have got some games under his belt.If he plays well then it sounds as though AP can recall him,or if Town are thinking of getting him permanently then the price will be higher.

Don't know the best scenario for Town

People go on as if he is world class. Ok he runs about a lot but can he make a defence splitting pass? Too much of a liability in my book
