Veno Offered New Deal

Veteran Town defender Mark Venus has been offered a new one-year contract with the club. Venus, who joined Town from Wolves in 1997 with cash and Steve Sedgley going in the opposite direction, is considering the deal.

Town chairman David Sheepshanks said of the 35-year-old defender: "Mark has one of the most dangerous left feet in the entire Premiership."

"Mark is enjoying an Indian summer to his career and we're sure he's not finished yet. He would deserve a player of the year award."

The offer won't please Colchester manager Steve Whitton who has said that he would like to take Venus to Layer Road over the summer.

A recent TWTD poll put Venus, an injury worry for next week's match at Arsenal, in the running for the ITFC Player of the Year award.
