Berra's Scotland Beaten By England
Friday, 11th Nov 2016 21:46

Town centre-half Christophe Berra played the full 90 minutes for Scotland as his side were beaten 3-0 by England in this evening’s World Cup qualifier at Wembley.

Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring in the first half and Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill sealed the victory after the break.

Former Blue Aaron Cresswell wasn’t included in the 23-man matchday squad, while ex-Town loanee Andros Townsend was an unused sub.

Berra, 31, was winning his 34th full cap but was unable to add to his three international goals. Scotland don’t have a further game scheduled for midweek.

Meanwhile, left-back Jonas Knudsen was left out of the 23 as Denmark beat Kazakhstan 4-1 in their World Cup qualifier in Copenhagen.

The 24-year-old, who has won two senior caps, was a late call into the squad on Thursday evening. The Danish FA have confirmed that Knudsen will travel for Tuesday's friendly against the Czech Republic in Mladá Boleslav.

Elsewhere, Blues youngster Monty Patterson, who is currently on loan at Braintree, will be looking to win his eighth full cap and score his second international goal when New Zealand face New Caledonia in a World Cup qualifier in Auckland overnight.

The All Whites face Les Cagous in Koné in another World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Wasn't able to see the game. How did he do?

Won a few headers, chipped a load of balls down the channels, lost the game. Bit like playing for town!

Seriously though, he did ok given that Scotland didn't really defend that well. Really nice to see an Ipswich player playing in a big game like this.

The important thing is he didn't get injured. I don't think he did a lot wrong and don't think he will be held to blame for any of the goals.

He played a lot of long balls I noticed! Nearly set Griffish away with one wonder where he learnt that lol

He done his best playing in a very poor Scotland team.He managed to put a few good long balls through and won a few headers, but that's about it.Hopefully he stayed free of injury.!

I thought he played ok , certainly looked better than Hanley and definitely not £50 million less of a player than Stones !!
The way Spurs have their full backs playing was the best part of the game

Norfolk1 really? Sturridge was Hanleys man and Berra got caught trying to get across from him man to Sturridge. Honestly any excuse to have a dig!

He did OK - and, really, all we can hope is that our players come through these games unscathed.
You have to bear in mind that he was playing against a team of players valued at 10 or even 50 times the Scotland squad players.

I was there and behind the goal where Sturridge scored, it was a class opportunist header which deserved a goal. I don't think you can blame Berra for that one. I thought he did OK the Scots weren't good but I felt he played better for them than he has us recently. I agree about the full backs, if only we had two at PR that could do what Walker and Rose did last night!

If you bothered to watch hanley was pole axed by a shot berra was trying to get to hanleys man but was to far away, cus for once england moved quickly

Berra was keen to check where cameras were, to check his hair on playback.. Did play well though, after looking needlessly nervous before game

We could have full backs like that if we kept the ball long enough for them to get forward! Mick just clearly prefers his 4 to all sit back and defend

Clearly a few Scottish players were out of their depth, according to the Telegraph his man marking was non existent but saying that felt he played better than Hanley who was just plain poor. England didn't even have to play well to win comfortably, I wonder why the Scottish FA decided to play in that dreadful pink strip?...no chance of Scotland getting to the world Cup finals (again).
