Benyu Putting Attitude Problems Behind Him and Targeting First Team
Wednesday, 16th Nov 2016 15:40

Midfielder Kundai Benyu says he’s put last season’s problems behind him and is targeting breaking into the Town first team.

The 18-year-old has been on the senior side’s bench on four occasions, twice in the Championship in the 2014/15 campaign, including the Norwich derby at Carrow Road, and twice in the League Cup last season, but so far but without making his first-team debut.

In the summer the Camden-born youngster played for Spurs in an U19s tournament in Holland at his own request and manager Mick McCarthy said his future at Town was in his own hands.

“That’s up to him with his attitude and his approach to football and being here. It’s down to him, he’s got ability,” the Town boss said in July.

McCarthy subsequently revealed that Benyu had apologised to him and now the academy product says that’s all behind him and he's hoping he can get back in the Blues boss’s first-team plans.

“It's my fault really,” he admitted to the club website. “I had an attitude problem last season which put the gaffer off using me but I've apologised now and we're on good terms again so it's all good now.

“I was out for about four-and-a-half months [with a knee injury] too so my season last year was a bit stop and start. I'm alright now. I'm all fit and well and I'm looking to push to get back in the first-team this season.

“The main goal is to break into the first team and play Championship football but the FA Cup is coming up soon so maybe I can get a look in in that.

"I'm out of contract at the end of the season but hopefully at some point in the season I'll be able to renew here for another couple of years.

“Speaking to the gaffer about it is on my to-do list but hopefully if I keep playing well and get into the first team again then it will ‘persuade’ him to offer me something. That's the aim, anyway.”

Benyu picked up an assist and a goal - a freekick curled into the top corner - in Monday's 4-2 U23s defeat to Charlton at Playford Road.

He is more physically ready for the championship than Dozzel imo after watching him in the u23s this season. Has a lot of skill and vision to so is going to be a crowd pleaser.

I don't like to say it but he's probably the new Cameron Stewart. You may of apologised but Mick doesn't forgive

He had an attitude problem LAST SEASON and it's taken until very recently for him to work that out and apologise. Long way back kid, keep your head down for a good while and you never know.

Whether you make it with us or somewhere else, you need the attitude to succeed or you will not have a career. Many a talented youngster with very little desire has amounted to little.

As for Cameron Stewart Tractor Cam, he's still a free agent 16 games into the season. Good riddance to that waste of wages.

I think that Benyu is a far better propect than Cameron Stewart, has a lethal free kick and takes very good corners.
If his attitude was wrong last year and he has tasted other waters, to then realise that he was better off at Town and has apologised to Mick, that is his first stage. He is a good height, needs bulking up with age, but could be a very good midfield player for the future, has the skill and game awareness.

No chance. Not while Mick is the manager anyway. He has shown time and again that if he doesn't like their attitude then they're gone... at the end of the season by the sound of it in this case.

Shock horror - a 16yo kid had an attitude problem.

He's mature enough to admit he was in the wrong and wants to get on with it.

What will it take for him to pip in front of Douglas, Bru and Hyam? A lot of luck, skill and determination. I would also include Skuse but he's undroppable in MM eyes

I hesr what the kid says, but is it a case of a Leopard never changes his spots?

Perhaps realising that he wouldn't get a look in a PL Spurs and , oops, his Town contract is down to come to an end , has managed to refocus his "attitude". Micks not daft, this player may have talent, but boy has he now got to PR OVER he has the correct mental application.

Time will tell..........

In all fairness I met and spoke with him at the pre season game at coggeshall. He admitted his mistakes and said he had to work hard to get back with mick. Also admitted the pair of m were fineandthe relationship was on the up with mick. He took time out to speak to my kids whom mother is from zim. He had great fun trying to teach them how to speak Shona and how they all enjoy sadza for dinner
