Bamba Issues Public Apology
Monday, 12th Dec 2016 16:46

Cardiff City central defender Sol Bamba has issued a public apology for his second-half meltdown and resultant red card during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with the Blues at Portman Road on Saturday.

The 31-year-old Ivorian international, who has been handed a two-match ban but could face further FA action, was dismissed in the 70th minute in an extraordinary incident when he went berserk following a Jonathan Douglas challenge.

“I want to apologise to the Cardiff City supporters, my team-mates and manager for my conduct during Saturday’s game at Ipswich,” Bamba wrote in a statement issued by the Welsh club.

“Whilst I was extremely angry with the challenge on me at the time, it did not condone my reaction and I accept that the referee had no choice but to show me a red card. I’ve spoken to my manager and team-mates and apologised to them in person.

"I’ve had a fantastic time at Cardiff City since joining in October and I look forward to returning. My intention will then be to make further amends with my performances on the pitch.”

Meanwhile, Town manager Mick McCarthy has revealed that Cardiff manager Warnock failed to mention the Douglas tackle which triggered Bamba's outburst when the pair spoke on the phone on Sunday.

In his post-match press conference Warnock had pointed the finger at the Town midfielder: “Douglas was clever. Douglas was smirking when he came out today and I’m sure when you see it in slow motion he leaves his studs in.”

However, McCarthy says the challenge didn’t come up when the duo, former team-mates at Barnsley talked.

“I spoke to Warney yesterday morning and not a mention,” he said. “He’s a great one at deflecting. I saw his interview on the telly, and I spoke to him yesterday, you know I get on well with him.

“He rang me after the game because we didn’t see each other and not a mention yesterday. The mention [the incident] got was that you can’t condone what he did and it wasn’t about Dougie, he was on about his defender, Bamba.”

a better man would've apologised to the Ipswich players as well as Douglas himself. Bamba is clearly not all that sorry the loose cannon. Just glad we don't have an idiot like that in our team.

We don't have anyone with any passion in our team, or indeed at the club : but we do have plenty of idiots, especially those in charge.

Not the first time the great Dougie has put his studs into a players leg, Bamba was lucky to get away with it unharmed unlike some eh Dougie!!?? that sort of behaviour is not worthy of wearing our shirt.

Surprised the managers don't have a whisky or glass of red in the managers office after the game, more cut backs I suppose.

Banana çreates entertainment, we must sign him up. Douglas must be the only player to leave his studs in and follow through the challenge half an hour later.

........ my guess is that playing for Warnock - he had no choice but to apologise.
In fairness Warnock was right in saying it should have been a free kick to them - but the Referee has a fine line when deciding to play an advantage / allowing play to continue.
Nice to see a bit of passion sometimes tho' - although he did go ott with it.

Whatever anyone says about Warnock - he is a winner - no such thing as a good point with him - it has to be three.

What about an apology to the young Ipswich fans, who had to witness the behaviour. They've probably been replicating this on the playgrounds today.
