Wolves Linked With Town Skipper
Sunday, 1st Jan 2017 11:00

Wolves are reportedly weighing up a January bid for Town skipper Luke Chambers.

According to the Sunday Mirror, the Molineux club are considering a move for the 31-year-old as they look to bolster their squad.

Chambers, it’s reported, would be available for a bargain price as he is out of contract in the summer.

However, while the deal the centre-half or full-back signed in October 2014 does run to the end of June this year it includes an option for the club to extend it for a further season.

Chambers has been a fixture in the Town side since joining the Blues in the summer of 2012 and was made club captain by Mick McCarthy following Carlos Edwards’s departure at the end of 2013/14.

The transfer window opens today with the Blues closing in on the additions of strikers Danny Ward from Rotherham and Cauley Woodrow from Fulham.

great news, not his fault he is picked to platy out of position but has cost us so many points over the time hes been at right back, not seen a more unaccomplished full back since Graham Harbey ,we will not struggle to replace him at right back as even at the age of 51 i could do no worse!

Cloody is right and while Chambo hasn't measured up to playing at rb he;s done his best and chiped in with some good goals. He loves the crowd but lately with the abuse aimed at MM I guess he's not happy. So a move must be on the cards as its a win win. Josh deserves his chance and maybe Diggers will too see some more chances (Lincoln).

Oh well. Micks played him out of place for a while now and yet he's made so many mistakes causing quite a few goals. Yes he plays with his heart on his sleeve but every player has a price and a proper RB would be a lot better. As long as he don't put a journey loan RB in instead!!!

But although Stearman played right back when he was here he is A CENTRE BACK BY PROFESSION !

I really think the criticism he gets is unfair

Yes he does struggle against very quick wingers but he generally does well, remember he's playing out of position

He reads the game and covers well, clearly an important member of the dressing room, excellent captain and very good centre half. Would be a big loss

Will be a shame to see him go and whilst he has deficiencies at right back the bloke is the go between from players to Manager and vice versa. He is definitely a leader as well and ensures new players into the Club are made welcome. Its just a pity he is not a very good right back despite his full commitment to the cause. If it is the parting of the ways I for one will wish him well.

Not a right back but a good captain and leader.

Don't sell. Basically means we'd have to plug two gaps if he left. Centre half and right back.

I agree trublue1998. Would have thought Webster, or (sadly) Lawrence would be more likely targets to go. Luke Varney's contract ends this month (someone earlier referred to a 'Luke' leaving this month).

There is a strong team spirit of which Luke Chambers as Captain is an integral part and would be strange to let him go at this stage of the season. As Mick McCarthy says we may not have the best team but we have the best bunch of lads, and when results aren't going are way he says they all support each other. Takes a long time to build that. It is a squad game and a strong team spirit is integral to that.

Even though I'm not his greatest fan I don't like to hear these disrespectful comments about the guy !

He is playing the position because the manager has put him there

If you do leave Chambers can you take Dino with you?

Most people I talk to want Josh Emmanuel in at right back, the club have been stating for years that we want to bring through youth players (even if it's just seems a load of PR BS), if Chambo is out of contract in the summer, the time seems right for all concerned.

We could do with getting in a captain figure though. Tbh regardless of Chambo leaving, we have seemed short on leaders this season, Skuse is no Chambo that's for sure. I'm still hoping we get linked with a move to get Conor Hourihane back. I think he'd solve a load of problems in our middle.

Always thought Paul Lambert was a bit mad. This confirms it beyond doubt !!! If we get any fee for this donkey it's a miracle. Nowhere near championship standard. Please let this be true !!!

As for the two strikers linked, are they really better than we have ? Not sure but don't think either will excite the fans too much.

Still need new manager !!!

I know he still has his house in Nottingham ( or he did until recently) so probably a good move for both parties at this time of his career. Good luck if you go Luke

he has taken a lot of stick past few months but he has suffered through McCarthy's ineptitude ,think he would benefit from a move and wouldn't be surprised if he moves on now .

Not his fault at all if he hasn't been good enough.
Mick has made him a position he's not great in, so good luck he if moves on & becomes a CB again.
His passion will be missed tho.

Chambers is a great captain and superb leader. So many players when they arrive at the club say how he helps settle them in. He has played wherever Mick has asked him to play and I really hope he stays. The abuse from a few of the keyboard warriors is just a sign of the times and irrelevant. As for the lack of a fist pump recently, grow up. It's really not appropriate given our league position at the morment.

We don't need to sell players we need to get rid of our inept manager and get a proper manager in who will play players like chambers in their proper position. Mick out .

First reaction is oh good!Coolcat could be right though as it could be Luke Varney they were talking about.

Carsey says he could be accommodated if Mick played 3 at the back, which he has only done very rarely, and only during a match that is not going our way. With wingbacks in Kenlock and Emmanuel it could work;but seems a bit to radical for this Manager I fear.

As most say he has put in a great shift for this club, mostly out of position, which is not of his choosing, and he does get targeted, and was at fault for the goal, along with Bart and Berra.

He is the wrong side of 30;so by moving inside could play as centre back until he is say 35.He is not mobile enough to continue at right back however,so this move could prolong his career.Hopefully can hang onto Webster, which would concur with Evans 5 point plan.Dont want to see him go and Chambo regain his place.

Must not forget that we still have Tommy;but he is a natural replacement for Christophe,as like Chambo didn't look comfortable playing out of position on the right.
