Blues Linked With Loan Move for Burnley Striker as Ward Interest Intensifies
Wednesday, 11th Jan 2017 13:56

Town are reportedly interested in loaning 19-year-old Burnley striker Dan Agyei, who was recently on loan with Coventry City. Elsewhere, Rotherham are reported to have turned down three bids for Blues target Danny Ward.

According to the Daily Mirror, Clarets boss Sean Dyche has thwarted a loan move for Agyei but the Blues are said to remain keen.

Kingston-upon-Thames-born Agyei joined Burnley in 2015 having caught their eye while playing youth football with AFC Wimbledon.

The 6ft tall frontman is yet to make a senior appearance for the Clarets but in August joined the Sky Blues - then managed by former Blues skipper and coach Tony Mowbray - on loan. Agyei, who can also play on the left as well as a central striker, has now returned to his parent club.

While with Coventry Agyei scored five times in 15 starts and four substitute appearances.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports are reporting that Rotherham have turned down three bids for Ward with the latest offer just under £2 million. If that report is correct then that would almost certainly rule Town out of the running.

In addition to the Blues, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby, Huddersfield and Wolves have all been mentioned in connection with the 26-year-old frontman.

Town continue to be linked with Dagenham and Redbridge striker Oliver Hawkins.

According to the Swindon Advertiser Swindon Town have had a six-figure bid turned down for the 24-year-old, the Blues having made a number of enquiries but no firm offer.

Elsewhere, Lincoln City fans crashed their website and were queuing from 4.45am this morning as they sought to secure tickets for next Tuesday's FA Cup replay against the Blues at Sincil Bank.

The Imps have now sold their allocation for the all-ticket match, which is being shown live on BBC One.

Can Anyone answer me why we would be ruled out of the running for Ward after 2 million??? We have has so much money come through are hands in players sold and we lost are best striker for around 4 million so we cant by a player for over 2 million??? Its a f-ing joke!!!!! We might as well pack up and go home now. Fed Up Is A UNDERSTATEMENT!!!!

So we get 3 million for murphy but we are out of the running if Rotherham ask 2 million for his replacement. And they wonder why there is alot of negativity at portman road !

The news of us being ruled out at £2,000,000 is a joke concerning Ward. This is 2017 not 2000. When is this club of ours being prepared to pay for a degree of quality.

As has already been said, it defies belief that we are looking at bringing in a 19yr old kd on loan when we have our own and they don't get a look in .not only a waste of money, its a smack in the teeth for our lads, I really cannot fathom out what is going on at our club anymore , the owner and manager have lost the plot .We need to be investing in players, players that will play , players that are going to be committed to the cause, not players brought in to get fit for the home clubs .Evans ,get a bloody grip .McCarthy, just go .

it was said a short time ago that money would be available to McCarthy, in January.Well it isn't in form of a pay off, dosn't appear to be for new players,so i can only assume its to get a round in at the bar...........mines a pint Mick .

So was there an offer or not?

Typical hysterical nonsense from our ITFC fans in this thread.

If we buy a player for £2mil his wage is likely to match, being at least £15kp/w with huge add-ons, large signing on fee & agents fees. That £15kp/w equates to over £775k per year in wages (3mil + over a contract... plus bonuses likely adding more than a £mil.) All of a sudden the entire cost is over £7mil...... that rules out more than 1 player, and we (imo) desperately need a CM in the mould of Holland or Magilton.

As for the idea that we should financially destroy the club- as per Norfolkbluey's comment- if we really want quality why stop there, lets put a bid in on Stones, Payet & Sanchez. This kind of short-termist comment really demonstrates the tenuous relationship with reality a lot of our fans have.

If only our fans were as positively vocal during games as they are whiney on here...

Muccletonejoe. The reason we cant spend the money from Murphy to buy ward is we spent £2m of that on deadline daybtonsign best Williams and Lawrence.

Ward has an option for another year on his contract which Rotherham will take up. Huddersfield have a 50% sell on clause. We will not be signing Ward and we cannot be one of the clubs in the running for him. Stop reporting this false story!

NOW BEEN 11 DAYS INTO THE TRANSFER AND STILL NONE-THING FROM TOWN. SAME AS NORMAL WAIT UNTIL THE LAST DAY OF THE TRANSFERS AND SEE WHAT PLAYERS WE CAN GET FOR FREE OR LOAN WHO CANNOT EVEN GET INTO THEIR OWN FIRST TEAMS. IPSWICH IS GOING NO WERE UNTIL WE GET SOME ONE INTO THIS CLUB WHO WILL SEND GOOD MONEY. MM BRINGS BORING FOOTBALL AND M EVENS BRINGS NONE THING INTO THE CLUB. JUST USING THE CLUB TO CLAIM HIS LOST TAX'S BACK.

To be fair to TWTD it is only reporting 2nd hand from the press. However, these are reports from a 'source' and there MAY not be an ounce of truth in them, its speculation month for the press, What i do love is the way that the club are immediately lambasted as if we have bought or loaned any of these. Of course i hope we do purchase in this window but the negativity and misundertsnding of basis business from some is quite amazing

Why waste money on loans now. Not going anwhere this season. It should be permanant signings of young players or give the lad morris a go.

Seriously?!...are our own kids that poor that we have to keep on loaning in other team's kids who (very rarely) bring anything to the team or to the club financialy.

And there is no way Danny Ward is worth £2m..hope we don't let McCarthy waste any precious funds..i'd rather save it until we get someone in who can build a team capable of playing good football.

If we buy in this window we will pay well over the odds. Keep the money for the summer and hope we aren't in a relegation dogfight.

With a wish list in place prior to the opening of the transfer window (and it does not stop clubs talking to each other about prospects before the window opens) you would have thought that some signings would have been made by now. Mr. Evans must be thoroughly fed up with what he has got himself into. Who would be an owner of a football club?!! It's just a money pit. Hope we don't end up with a couple of last days of the month journeymen signings.
