Town Linked With Rebuffed Bid for Preston Striker
Wednesday, 11th Jan 2017 21:35

Preston North End are reported to have turned down a seven-figure Town bid for striker Jordan Hugill.

According to the Lancashire Evening Post, the Blues offered around £1.5 million for the 24-year-old, who has established himself as a regular with the Lilywhites this season.

Preston are said to be keen to hold on to the Middlesbrough-born frontman they bought from Port Vale in June 2014 for £25,000 youth compensation but may be tempted by a higher offer. Hugill signed a contract which runs until the summer of 2019 earlier in the season.

Rumours linking the Blues with a move for Hugill have been circulating on the TWTD Forum for the last week.

Prior to his spell with the Valiants, who would receive a percentage of the fee should Preston sell, 6ft tall Hugill played in non-league with Seaham Red Star, Consett, Whitby Town and Marske United.

While with Vale Hugill spent time on loan with Gateshead, then following his move to Deepdale had stints with Tranmere and Hartlepool during the 2014/15 season.

Hugill has scored 13 goals in 28 starts and 37 sub appearances for the Lilywhites, including six so far this season.

Bit of a high price tag. Can't we offer them paint for their turnstiles instead?

This is getting boring now. If we want a goal scorer, we need to start paying the money. Simple as that. Instead of wasting time on over priced championship players and premier league loans, why can't we look in league 1 and 2. Plenty of great players out there.

Christ are there anymore strickers in the uk and Ireland we are not linked to. We will be looking at a forward from the Cook Islands next!!! That's about all that's left to look at.

Please Lord let this be false. He still plays with his mates down the local goals centre on a thursday evening and he ain't even the top goal scorer there!!!

Anything coming from comics like the Daily Mail, Sun and Mirror should be dismissed as spurious. Coming from a local newspaper a rumour may have a degree of truth because of local twittering but whatever the truth, MM has his hands tied by an owner who isn't going to splash the cash on anything other than a sound bet. Absolutely no point anyone using rumours and fake news to clobber MM. Support what we have and just hope that something changes for the better.

Marcus Scrooge has told MM that he is allowed to buy a striker between 1,3 and 1,9 million. MM is now bidding on 5-7 strikers at the same time. Would be fun to see Scrooge's face if they all accept our peanut money.

Good point Bert
There will be a plethora of stories linking us with players - as there are with ALL clubs.
I suspect that MM may read these (not sure if he actually does) and laughs.

Then reads his emails/IM from Evans and sighs...

BTW - was in a bar and met a Lincoln supporter tonight - they are up for the re-play...

I know most of us are wanting a change of manager now but how frustrated must Mick be waiting for a forward to be bought!!

When our budget is so small, why keep trying to buy Championship players? They will either be too expensive or not good enough. Look to the lower leagues or abroad surely.

Why do we always get linked with strikers that have a one goal in 5 or 6 ratio......you need that from midfielders...strikers one in every 3 minimum....we got in top 6 due to murphy scoring 27 goals ...not 10....where is our ambition

1.5m seems very steep for him. Can't ever see him being prolific so chances are it's 1.5m you'll never get back.
I don't get it. Why keep getting average Championship jobbers who are overpriced and other people's academy players on loan? To me it doesn't fit the SUSTAINABLE 5 point plan.

I would much rather save the money for when we can attract better players who are out of contract/freed up in the summer when we have a new manager and a clean slate without having to bribe players to want to come to a boring hoofball team in pergatory.

Seaham Red Star?

Didn't Nigel Gleghorn use to play for them?

Casanovacrow: spot on! It doesn't look like we're going to sign anyone for the money we want to pay and MM has kinda said that by warning that January is a difficult time to sign anyone. Basically means-the best we will get is a loan, and then hopefully line someone up for the summer.

I would also like this to be out of micks hands (i.e., in the new plans of a new manager)

I think this is exactly the type of player we need and the type of player Sears/McGoldrick/Pitman need to have alongside them

It's the footballing equivalent of Ian Milne going off to the shops to buy a Mars bar with 30p in his pocket and somebody telling him you can't buy things in 2017 with 1990's money. It appears to come as a revelation!

Until you hear it from ITFC it's not true..,

We do need a good striker for a good price not paying over the odds for someone rubbish....

Thierry Ambrose At Man City could do well he is only 19 scores loads of goals (FM 17 & Fifa 17) cost Around 500k/1ml

Good to se us bidding for players, but did they really think that Preston would sell one of there best players who is only 24 for that sum in January. We either need to go down the leagues or wait for an unwanted PL player in our budget to come available which seems unlikely. I suspect we'll just end up with another loan & Milne will come out & tell us we made bids for several players that all got rejected. The fact is we can't compete with other teams with our budget, i know we did but there is a lot more money in this league since then.

Like fellow fans I am getting fed up with all these links. The club need to splash the cash if we are going to sign players who are the quality we need.

GTRking: I know they use scouts and players to help them rate players but you can't apply computer games to real life. I remember in CM00/01, our best full back was Gary Croft!

Another day another link with another striker. At least if we keep trying we may land some sort of striker at some point even if it appears to be the 88th choice in the list. Lets just wait till something happens and then we can all B.M.W (bitch moan whinge) to our hearts content.
