Town Closing in on First Signing
Saturday, 14th Jan 2017 12:57

TWTD understands Town are closing in on the signing of Forest Green Rovers striker Kieffer Moore, who has recently been on loan at Torquay United.

The 24-year-old is at Portman Road today to undergo a medical and the signing, which would be the Blues’ first of the transfer window, could be confirmed this afternoon.

Torquay-born Moore, who is 6ft 5in tall, started his career with Truro City before moving on to Dorchester Town, Yeovil Town - with whom he played in the Championship in 2013/14 - and then Norwegian side Viking before signing for Vanarama National League side Forest Green in January last year. He joined another National League club Torquay on loan in November.

With Forest Green he has scored seven goals in 17 starts and 17 sub appearances, while he netted five times in four games for Torquay including a hat-trick.

The striker is understood to be a player viewed as a prospect with the potential to play in the Championship, while the Blues have three bids in for higher profile players with Rotherham's Danny Ward - who is not in the Millers squad today - remaining a target.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has previously had success when delving into the non-league market, signing Michael Kightly from Grays when at Wolves and Tyrone Mings from Chippenham since taking over at Portman Road.

Laughable it really is how can he been seen as one for the future at 24 years of age. Joke

Perhaps it is for our future in League 1?

Just saying.....

Good luck to him. It's a signing at last! Hopefully he will blossom at PR.

This club never stops to amaze me with degrees of underwhelming and yet.....honestly I despair! I am rapidly running out of superlatives at how uninspiring our club is these days! I'm convinced ME is determined to take us down the leagues. When he was first appointed did he say he was looking to get us out of this league? We made the mistake of not asking him which one? Never assume!

Was expecting something like close to signing bob the builder on a one year contract to paint the turnstiles

He's 24 (hardly one for the future) and scored 7 goals in 34 games. Pretty uninspiring on paper but I'm sure he is just a punt and we'll have proper bids in for other players.

Yeah. What with most players retiring at 26 and no one ever making it from the lower leagues, this is definitely a terrible signing. I've never heard of him!

Jonathan Walters was 23 when we signed , did you make this same post in 2007 gmanrom? Worth a punt I say

No go for Omar Bogle from Grimsby he is 24 a much better prospect.

Anyone out there fancy a game for the Town? No particular skills required ...

Ricky Lambert, Jamie Vardy, even Gareth McAuley didn't play professionally until 24. Good luck to him, hopefully another success story on the way!

just a younger Darryl Murphy, but taller!

Hope he is a player to thrive at this level, but 7 in 34 doesn't set the pulses racing! Will be fully supported though, so lets get in some more and get rid of the deadwood (like Mick)!

What doe anyone have to lose.

The chap gets a big break. We get a young lad who probably knows this is it.

I like this signing.

Do me a favour nysully. Walters was Chesters star man and stood out in an F.A cup match against us which alerted us to buy him and we got lucky as he turned out to be an excellent signing. This guy can't even get in the Forest Green team for gods sake how on earth can you compare these situations lol.

Jeeeez
Here's a few, as 'ones for the future' -
Alex Henshall
Dylan Connolly
Jack Doherty
Paul Digby, who's still with us
Frank Nouble
James Alabi
Larsen Toure

I'm sure there are more...
So we're in the mire and we're signing players for the apparent future. Tr'ific.

Good to see us close in on someone, no idea who he is so I won't pass judgement

Woah woah woah guys. I get that things are negative at the moment, but let's wait and see how this young fella performs. Don't write him off before he has had an opportunity. Mings, Walters, Osborne, Webster all came from relatively humble beginnings and none of them let us down. Give any newcomer a chance. Young man if you do come, then welcome to our club, and good luck.

Players are playing for longer and longer surely 24 is more one for the future than it has ever been.

Ian Wright didn't turn pro until 26 ish.

This guy is not our main target and has cost I imagine peanuts. A no risk punt so quit your jibba jibba fools

A real shock signing. Don't know what to make of it but wish him well & hopes he has a successful time here. If he's been loaned to Torquay then does that mean Forest Green don't see him as a first choice striker? Hopefully Mick has seen something in him that no one else has?! Smacks of Rory Fallon to me though

I know nothing about him but let's at least give the poor sod a chance before we write him off.

Interesting how some fans look at the negative constantly! You can make stats say what you like. If you were a positive fan you would argue that he has 12 goals in 21 starts. He is an investment from the lower league., am pretty sure most fans have been crying out for this. Club are in a no win situation at the moment with a lot of fans on here. They are doing a lot wrong, but this is a positive signing for me. Good luck fella.

That's Knudsen back in then. Back to basics back to long ball. Perhaps he's the next Vardy. Here's hoping
