Town Closing in on First Signing
Saturday, 14th Jan 2017 12:57

TWTD understands Town are closing in on the signing of Forest Green Rovers striker Kieffer Moore, who has recently been on loan at Torquay United.

The 24-year-old is at Portman Road today to undergo a medical and the signing, which would be the Blues’ first of the transfer window, could be confirmed this afternoon.

Torquay-born Moore, who is 6ft 5in tall, started his career with Truro City before moving on to Dorchester Town, Yeovil Town - with whom he played in the Championship in 2013/14 - and then Norwegian side Viking before signing for Vanarama National League side Forest Green in January last year. He joined another National League club Torquay on loan in November.

With Forest Green he has scored seven goals in 17 starts and 17 sub appearances, while he netted five times in four games for Torquay including a hat-trick.

The striker is understood to be a player viewed as a prospect with the potential to play in the Championship, while the Blues have three bids in for higher profile players with Rotherham's Danny Ward - who is not in the Millers squad today - remaining a target.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has previously had success when delving into the non-league market, signing Michael Kightly from Grays when at Wolves and Tyrone Mings from Chippenham since taking over at Portman Road.

This site makes me laugh! Nothings ever good enough, first people are saying we dont want loans, which I agree with, and that we should look at lower leagues for players instead of Premier League cast offs. This is a possible permanent signing from a lower league who is young enough to improve and yet its still wrong. I'm not happy with how things are at the moment but stop being negative about absolutely everything!

Well this one came in under the radar...don't know anything about him so can't comment good or bad but going by probability will 'prosper' better under a new manager and in that not meaning McCarthy. All the best though mate!...

Evans cant or wont spend much so we wont be getting anyone other than hasbeens at Championship level, we need to look at lower league players, this player will be a gamble but its one worth taking ,he will obviously want to prove himself,.Yes we are in the mire but options under Evans will be very limited , Give the player a chance . AND HEY, at 6' 5''he will suit Dino's ''style''. Always look on the bright side of life ............as hard as that is at present .

Any progress with transfers is progress. As long as he's not stupid money it's worth a shot in our situation

Sounds very promising to me.Thats what we have been asking for,a player from the lower league,so let's give the lad a chance and not knock him.!

Maybe it's because I read Roy of the Rovers when I was a kid but I love signings like this, OK they don't all come off, but somehow I think this one just might, we need a big striker to scare defences. #hopeful

Always happy to give any new player a try, but we still need players who can come straight into the starting eleven. This guy, as the article suggests, isn't likely to be that regular striker now.

Good luck new player who nobody had even heard of until they read this article, yet seem to already be dividing opinion!

I'm sure you'll be given a warm reception by the fans. That is until you make the slightest mistake, then you'll be unfairly tarnished forever as another Mick McCarthy flop.

Best of luck to you Kieffer - you're really going to need it to pass muster with this miserable bunch of die hard reprobates!

OK, he may not be the high profile signing that we would all like to see. However, let us give him a chance. Look at the line-up for today; Sears and Lawrence up front with Best on the bench. Sears and Lawrence are good, but not target men. Best is (along with Varney) not especially talented nor a regular goal scorer, but hard-working. I'd rather that we took a chance on a lad like this and try to improve him than sign the likes of Best, Coke, Douglas, Tabb, etc.

I saw him for Yeovil against us a couple of years back and he was poor.
Bit like Bambi on ice.
Hopefully he's improved since then. At 10k, it's no gamble.
But if this is our only signing, it would be disappointing.

Oldbri; thank you for those videos. They are some evidence that he tries to use his feet and is more than just a big lump. Hopefully, with some coaching, hard work and encouragement (from both supporters and management) he can have a decent career with us.

The 'keep the fafe'ers having a field day on here today! The reality is that we already have a squad full of total sh1te and this bloke is even sh1ter : otherwise he'd at least be in Forest Green's team and not out on loan.

Good Luck, because he will need it, lol. Getting players from the lower leagues is ok as long as we have quality players in the team to give them the quality balls. ITFC is being ran on a shoe string budget so it does not surprise me we will sign waifs and strays who don,t have a team.

A striker who can't get into the forest Green side?? I'm not sure why I'm underwhelmed!
Underwhelmed but not surprised with the inept management at this club!

Watch forest green quite a bit and believe me this is laughable, there is a reason he can't get in a conference side

^^this has got Digby written all over it, there is a reason why he's still applying his trade at the lower level at 24 ffs, stubborn Mick thinking he knows a player but I'm having my doubts, what is it about us and going for strikers who can't find the net on a regular basis? Tell me Jack Marriott isn't as good as this guy then oh yeah trouble is Jack isn't 6'5".

But for the player himself I do wish him luck of course I do, it's a big step up and I'm all for lower league players coming here and taking their chance....he's probably a punt and another option I can see that, we certainly need another striker of quality though no doubt..

.......... we just had to go to a big Club for a signing ........ laughable - given the current state of affairs at the Club.

But the 'happy chappies / lassies' we be as content as ever.

I can hardly be classed a happy chappie blueboy1981 I have voiced my oppinions of the set up all season and no longer go to matches, but I'm not going to crucify a player without giving him a chance, Evans wont spend big so what are you expecting !

Some of our fans on here amaze me . For weeks they've been saying sign a hungry player from lower/non league rather than a has been on loan from the premier or an average championship striker. We're now doing that and everyone's sagging both the club and him off before he's even got here. Ridiculous. He's scored 5vin 4 games on loan at Torquay and is costing £10,000. Hardly a massive risk. Seem to remember we signed another player for that amount from non league and sold him for £8m 2 years later

Simon Milton was 24 when he signed for us. People were saying why are we taking someone who has only played non-league at that age. He was a legend and is still a loyal servant of the club.

Don't attack the player. Perhaps attack that McCarthy is after a player he can lump balls to and his selections, but not the players. They're all trying their best.

Didn't even know where Forest Green Rovers were situated until my eldest son moved to Nailsworth in the Cotswolds which is in a valley. From my sons house you look across to the impressive Stadium on the other side of this small town.

Apparently Mick saw him at Yeovil when we played them in the Championship, then when they were relegated Kieffer went to Viking in Norway, where he didn't make an impact;and has been at Forest Green for a year, where similarly didn't impress there either so was loaned out to fellow National League side Torquay.

Not a prolific scorer;but a poor mans version of Peter Crouch who is a similar height.
Think he is more likely to turn out like Giles Coke or Piotr Malarcyk, than Simon Milton or Tyrone Mings who had a howler in his first start for Bournemouth yesterday.

At £10k however suppose its worth a punt;but hope that isn't the sole player purchased in this window.Certainly need a commanding midfielder like former reject Conor Hourihane as well as hopefully another striker.
