Free Coach Travel for Forest Game for Fans Who Were at Lincoln
Thursday, 19th Jan 2017 14:14

Town are offering the 1,100 fans who made the trip to Lincoln for Tuesday’s FA Cup replay defeat free coach travel to the final game of the season at Nottingham Forest on Sunday 7th May.

Owner Marcus Evans made the decision to make the offer following the humiliating 1-0 defeat to the Vanarama National League leaders, the Blues’ first FA Cup loss to non-league opposition since Peterborough won 3-2 at Portman Road in January 1960, also at the third round stage.

“Everybody at the club is hurting, Mick, the players, the staff and, of course, our fantastic fans,” MD Ian Milne told the club site.

“We need the continued backing from the supporters, especially in difficult times and we appreciate the time and money they spend following the team. We hope that this gesture goes some way to showing that.

“Our season has been disappointing so far culminating in the defeat at Lincoln but there have been encouraging signs recently in the league and hopefully we can get back to winning ways at Huddersfield at the weekend. The fans can have a big part to play in that - as they always do.”

Full details of how travel vouchers for the visit to the City Ground can be redeemed will be announced in due course.

A nice gesture by the club - shame that its needed - and I doubt that it will life the mood amongst supporters.

Why would anybody want to go and watch that shower of s***

And what about those who travel by car? Which is somewhat more than go by coach? Nothing as usual I guess. Would be better to give free tickets to everyone who went but still charge for the coach travel

Well done Marcus. Learning from the likes of Leicester on how to treat fans, hopefully.

Its all doom and gloom at the moment but lets stick together and change the tide

Reading between the lines, I think Marcus is hoping we're safe sooner rather than later (51pts) then the fans travelling to the City Ground are watching the new manager's team. Either that or we're all going there watching Town fighting for our lives to stay up.

While I hesitate to criticise any positive gesture by the club, this doesn't seem a well thought out offer.
1. A fan living in or near Ipswich may be able to take up this offer, a fan in London / Manchester / the Northeast etc. probably cannot.
2. Offer relates to one game only - not everyone who was at Lincoln will be available to go to Forest on a Sunday in May.
3. High chance this fixture will be a meaningless one.

If the club wanted to make an offer, then a voucher approximately equal to the cost of a ticket for an away game of the fan's choice up to the end of this season might have been a fairer and more flexible gesture.

Evans could afford to refund all expenses for those who went to Lincoln not just tickets but travel and food. I'm sure his accountant could find a way. This is more cr@p PR by the club.

These are 1100 fans all heroes and should be treated far better than this

SORRY TOWNIE, AGREE WITH STICKING TOGETHER EVEN IN THESE "DIFFICULT TIMES"
THE TONE OF SOME WHINGERS/MOANERS ( WHILST WE ALL HAVE AN OPINION) WE MAY AS WELL LOCK THE GROUND UP & CLOSE DOWN!!

I do agree that it's a positive gesture but the trouble is this. 1100 fans travelled to Lincoln. Only 3 coaches went which is around 150 fans. So nearly 1000 fans who went and most of who, like me and my mates, never travel by coach will receive nothing from this offer. Yes we could say well go by coach this one game. But we are planning to stay in Nottingham for something to eat after the game so we will have to drive up. The fact is that the vast majority of away fans do not travel by coach. And I may be being sceptical, but if they did i doubt the club would even have made this offer in the 1st place

Mr Evans, you can sell my seat on the coach and put the proceeds towards paying Mick off.

It's not the money, it's the embarrassment we feel , and your a coach trip to Nottingham isn't going to solve that one.

thanks for the offer Marcus - genuinely nice offer. If you would be kind enough to ship a bus down to Bournemouth for me that would be lovely.

Why would anyone who went there want to waste another day of their life going to watch the BxxxxX this management and club are providing?

Free or not

Not good enough Mick and Evans out

Nice Gesture by the club - but far simpler (to administer) & fairer to offer free tickets for the game to the 1,100 poor souls that went to that horror show.

Decent gesture, but a guaranteed ticket for Carrot Ruud would have been better.

Well done Marcus that's a good gesture. I'm sure there'll be something for the season ticket holders that have had to put up with McCarthy's dire football all season?

Does Marcus Evans do free tickets? ☺

Maybe they should consider free season tickets for next season too. Might get 10,000 then!

I am sorry but they will never learn.
