Town Sign Macclesfield Winger
Friday, 27th Jan 2017 21:30

Town have announced the signing of Macclesfield winger Danny Rowe for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old has signed a contract until the summer of 2020 with an option for a further season.

“It’s been a hectic few days,” Rowe told the club site. “I was told that Ipswich were interested in me earlier in the week and I drove down today once I was told it had all been agreed.

“It’s an exciting move for me, joining a massive club like Ipswich and I can’t wait to get going.

“I know I have a lot to prove but I’ll be working as hard as I can to show everyone what I can do."

Manchester-born Rowe, whose elder brother Tommy plays for Doncaster, was with the Bolton Wanderers academy as a youngster but broke into senior football with Stockport County in 2009 during the Hatters' time in League One.

Rowe, who is left-footed but often operates on the right, moved on to Barrow in July 2012 before joining Macclesfield the following summer. After a spell out of the game, Rowe returned to the Silkmen at the start of 2015 and since then has been a regular for the Vanarama National League side.

In total he made 119 appearances for the Cheshire club and has scored 15 goals, eight of them in his 28 starts and two sub appearances this season.

Barnet recently had a £100,000 offer for Rowe, while Derby, Rotherham, Walsall and Port Vale have also been reported to have been showing interest.

He added: “I made my debut in the Football League for Stockport against Leeds at Elland Road and it’s a fantastic feeling to be back to that level again.

“Macclesfield have been great for me and I’d like to thank everyone there for helping me progress as a player.”

Rowe will meet up with the rest of the squad at Preston tomorrow but won’t be involved against the Lilywhites.

Was there any build up to this? I don't recognise the name. Came a bit out of the blue!

Hope this is the start of many.

We need 5-6 players!

A Right back and two strikers are a minimum. Especially as Best is frozen out.

Good luck to him. Nothing wrong with taking a punt. I just hope he's allowed to be a winger rather than forced to defend and babysit Knudsen.

I don't get Ipswich fans:

"We should try and sign unproven, young, hungry players from League 1/League 2"

Followed by - "who's this guy? Unproven at this level, not what we need"

...make up your mind for goodness sake.

He could be a good signing, I just hope he's picked to play in front of Knudsen and not behind him. I also hope MM doesn't kill him off like he has all the other wingers we've owned.

Welcome to The Pride of Anglia Danny.
Very nice to sign an attacking player, something we are certainly short of.

Undisclosed, but Barnet bid around £100K. Good news we have a new signing, but looking more likely we have failed to deliver our million pound targets. He could be a good signing. Time will tell. Welcome.

Happy about this one as with the other new additions, just the kind of players we should be signing. More sustainable than paying over the odds for mediocre players that multiple other clubs are chasing, imo

Excellent news, and what a surprise to get a signing! It feels a while since an 'undisclosed fee', maybe because we usually sign frees or loans, but I would prefer to know the fee just to understand whether he turns out to be value for money. I will assume he was just over £100K then if that's what Barnet bid, which is still a fairly big fee for a non-league player.

I am all for signing non-league players. Affordable fees, affordable wages, and they might just make it big. It's exciting to see how they do, that's what football is all about. Far more enjoyable to watch a signing like this play than a player on loan who goes back in the summer.

If anyone was in doubt whether we'd written this season off and it was now about rebuilding, enter shock signing.

Zero clue as to whether he can cut it moving up three divisions. Mick must think he can work with him and improve him but given the track record, I'd argue more players have gone backwards than they have progressed, Mings and Murphy being the only exceptions.

This must mean he will start ahead of Lawrence then, going by mental Mickey's comments yesterday about the Irish winger who went to preston! OR Lawrence must be on his way??

Lawrence won't leave it will be him & Lawrence/grant ward battling for winger spots

Hopefully it will be a good buy. Wish him all the best & now we need a striker

Jas0999. Why does this mean it's likely we've missed out on our million plus signing? My guess is those bids are in for a striker. (Various bids but maybe just one signing). This is simply another signing. Why do u have to put a negative into almost every post u put on here?

Get in a winger and Lawrence can move into the middle. In any case, from those clips, he seems to play more on the right.

I didn't read it as a negative post Jas, more of a personal thought written down.

Welcome Danny, I hope you settle & adapt quickly, we need you to!! Best wishes
