Town Sign Macclesfield Winger
Friday, 27th Jan 2017 21:30

Town have announced the signing of Macclesfield winger Danny Rowe for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old has signed a contract until the summer of 2020 with an option for a further season.

“It’s been a hectic few days,” Rowe told the club site. “I was told that Ipswich were interested in me earlier in the week and I drove down today once I was told it had all been agreed.

“It’s an exciting move for me, joining a massive club like Ipswich and I can’t wait to get going.

“I know I have a lot to prove but I’ll be working as hard as I can to show everyone what I can do."

Manchester-born Rowe, whose elder brother Tommy plays for Doncaster, was with the Bolton Wanderers academy as a youngster but broke into senior football with Stockport County in 2009 during the Hatters' time in League One.

Rowe, who is left-footed but often operates on the right, moved on to Barrow in July 2012 before joining Macclesfield the following summer. After a spell out of the game, Rowe returned to the Silkmen at the start of 2015 and since then has been a regular for the Vanarama National League side.

In total he made 119 appearances for the Cheshire club and has scored 15 goals, eight of them in his 28 starts and two sub appearances this season.

Barnet recently had a £100,000 offer for Rowe, while Derby, Rotherham, Walsall and Port Vale have also been reported to have been showing interest.

He added: “I made my debut in the Football League for Stockport against Leeds at Elland Road and it’s a fantastic feeling to be back to that level again.

“Macclesfield have been great for me and I’d like to thank everyone there for helping me progress as a player.”

Rowe will meet up with the rest of the squad at Preston tomorrow but won’t be involved against the Lilywhites.

lighteningboy, miltonsnephew . Why do u say we need a rb? We've already signed one, he played last Sat and was by all I've heard, the best player on the pitch for us. Devereuxxx. Spot on. U said same thing after we signed the striker last week. Just think some on here simply want to be negative about everything. Come on guys, we're all pretty negative about the way things are going right now. None more than Me. Just allow used a bit of positivity. I wonder if the Leicester fans were as negative when they signed Vardy from non league

At last we have a fitting almost like-for-like replacement for Oar - welcome aboard Rowe.

Good luck to the lad, some players just need a break, hopefully this is his. Must be well regarded as it's a decent contract length.

Looks like the squad has had a bit of a refresh, hope that's the catalyst for a change in performances and attitude. These new lads will be excited by their opportunity and that's good for the downbeat lads there at the moment.

Signings made, hope we get a marquee name in (relatively speaking) but can see that it's difficult to sign this window and won't hold judgement on that.

Welcome to the club Danny Rowe, just hope you will be allowed to be given a chance to prove yourself.
Could be the exact type of player we need, as per the Lincoln game, their players didn't look to be much out of their league playing us. I would like us to do a bit more cherry picking of players from the so called lower leagues.
Yes it would be nice to get a player who is proven at this level, but let's face it we have a manager and owner who will not entertain paying over the top (in their opinion) for those type of players.
I guess when Tommy Smith and Webster are back up to full match fitness, we must see them back in the side to replace Berra who looks a shadow of the player he was a season or so ago, whether he moves on or not he shows no composure on the ball and the hoofs look more of desperation.
At the time of signing him I wondered if we actually needed him with the partnership of Chambers and Smith looking very solid.
I've almost given up hope of signing the midfield player we have so needed for the past four / five seasons, we have had three managers now who can't see the need for that kind of player that every supporter that goes to PR knows we need.

Welcome aboard, Danny! Whatever suspicions this might raise about all the ones whose prices we weren't willing to meet, this one should be seen on its own merits.

Has this been Super Jim Magilton or another up-and-coming young manager, we would have been even more positive about this acquisition because we would have heralded it as part of our "new, fresh, approach ." The thing is, it's not just who you sign; it's what you do with them afterwards. I hope Mick gives him the chance to develop fully.

This is great news just what we need.
now for the striker

and to tear up Douglas' contract.- he needs putting out of his misery poor bloke.

Why do people keep asking for a RB - we just signed Spence and have Emmanuell (sp)
Great to see signings out of the Blue

This is the type of player we should be signing; let's just not expect too much too soon as he will be stepping up 3 leagues.

nice, 2 footed, a ball player for once rather than a grafter.

maybe mick is going to adopt Barnsleys approach its his hometown after all, they have really impressed me this sesson, a team built with unknown players who play freely and attack, think Paul Heckingbottom is a fantastic young manager an Eddie Howe in the making

Somebody asked if 24 is considered young, compared to the experienced (has been) players we usually sign yes!

Best of luck to you and hopefully Muppet McCarthy won't destroy your confidence and play you out of position as he seems so intent on doing all the while!

Welcome to Ipswich Town Danny! is this the new Stephenson Rocket that Sir Alf used to set up the champions? Lincoln proved that Vanarma sides can be effective so why not use the pieces for the puzzle? Some of the kids out the youth setup could become stars of tomorrow very soon. We have a wealth of talent at Playford road so why not use it efficiently? Good luck to the next stars and hope they stay long enough to become stars. Remember Marcelo Flores is the next "Messi" so the future is looking very bright!

I take no pleasure and do feel some guilt about posting a negative comment, however I cannot get excited about this signing or in fact any signing of a young attacking player with potential! I feel sorry for the player, recent history tells us that after some weeks training and a couple of under 23 games, it will be drummed into him that his priority is to work his 'balls' off and stop the opposing full back from threatening our defence! Even if by some miracle he is encouraged to attack, who will give him the ball? He will find himself wandering infield to pick up some scraps and sooner rather than later his confidence will be shot! I really hope I am wrong!

Happy with this! But does make you wonder if he's any better than Lincolns winger Arnold who tore us apart twice.. if so get him in as well!

He scored against Lincoln so already better than what we have here already.

Looks like he picks his shot rather than just head down and lashing it, shows good technical quality. We need more players and he looks promising. Good work for unearthing him and good luck at Ipswich Danny

5 players signed, all need paying, some will have been paid signing on fees, help with accommodation and transport, perhaps relocation, agents fees, etc.Nobody can accuse ME of not providing some funds so if one £1M+ player arrives in the next few days, happy times.I would never criticise MM & TC who have worked wonders with very little budget.A lot of the hoof ball comes from the players themselves who have no confidence, not helped by the atmosphere at PR.Today could be the start of something good giving the fans something to cheer.COYB.

I've heard it all now! Geminimustang blaming the players for 'hoof ball' tactics!
Anyhow, I've no problem with us sources players from lower divisions,in fact I endorse it. It's the way forward, that with our youth system, should set the future foundations.
My issue is with the manager, is he the right man to produce the final product on field of play? Not for me, four years on and still waiting for an exciting winger to grace Portman Rd! That in itself speaks volumes!
What's also extremely alarming is we have an owner who hasn't a scooby-doo about football philosophy! Blind leading the blind springs to mind!!!!

welcome i hope you do well here........i expect after seeing the way non league opposition played us of the pitch Mick must of thought he might as well sign some non league players to improve our squad.
