Bru and Moore Doubts Ahead of Cardiff Trip
Wednesday, 15th Mar 2017 14:06

Midfielder Kevin Bru and striker Kieffer Moore are doubts ahead of Saturday’s trip to Cardiff City. The Blues will also be without midfielder Emyr Huws, who is ineligible against his parent club but would miss out anyway with a tight hamstring.

“Kevin Bru got a bang on his knee and he’s missed training today,” manager Mick McCarthy said.

“And Kieffer Moore had a slight groin strain and he thought he was going to train today and he hasn’t. With those two I’ll wait and see, they’re a bit of a doubt at the moment.

“Didzy hadn’t trained until today but he’s fine, he’s trained. And Tom Lawrence hadn’t and he’s fine. But other than the two lads, Kevin and Kieffer, we are as we were.”

Regarding the unavailable Huws, he added: “He’s injured anyway, his hamstring’s tight. He wouldn’t be playing but he can’t play, we knew that.”

McCarthy revealed Luke Hyam is facing another significant spell on the sidelines with the injury he suffered in training last week.

“Luke Hyam’s damaged his ankle ligaments and he’s going to be out for four to six weeks,” he continued.

“It’s a really terrible blow for him, he’ll be glad to see the back of this season, I’m sure, and start again next year.

“It’s unbelievable luck for Luke and it was a real freak, it was a brilliant block on the line to block a shot. Typical of him, as wholehearted and as honest as ever.

“He blocked the shot, it was great defending but it’s hit him right on the toe and it’s opened his ligaments up.”

Meanwhile, Jonny Williams is back in training and making progress having suffered a minor niggle in the U23s last week as he made his recovery from his shoulder injury.

“Jonny Williams had a tight hamstring, but he trained yesterday, he’s trained today and he’s looked great so he’s back at it,” the Town boss said.

McCarthy says Steven Taylor will play for the U23s against Crewe Alexandra at Portman Road on Monday (KO 7pm).

“He’s trained well today,” he said. “He was talking to me and he put himself up for the squad but I couldn’t really hear him, he was just making a noise.

“So I said ‘You’re in the squad for Monday, that’ll do you’. So he’ll be playing on Monday.”

Winger Danny Rowe wasn’t involved with the U23s as they lost 3-1 at Nottingham Forest this Monday but McCarthy says the January signing from Macclesfield is fit.

“He was never going to feature at Nottingham Forest,” he added. “He was always going to be in the squad and train with us. He’s fine, he’s trained all week.”

No loss with Moore and Bru

Mick has ruined Bru like half the other players he has ruined! He was such a promising player and could thread the eye of a needle every time of asking. Hope when he get a new manager after this awful season they see the potential he has!!

I was wondering about Danny Rowe's absence from the U23 game. Hopefully, he might get some game time from the bench. If he's not even on the bench, why not give him a run out earlier this week?

Im not fussed the Moore doesn't travel he has been a complete waste of time every time he has come on. All he does is take away the opportunity for Pitman to make an impact which he does time and time again when he comes on, it was proven again on Saturday!

Still a lot of players in the treatment room.In fact cant remember any Manager in the last 50 years here, having to put up with so many injuries in one season!

Virtually every player we sign or loan comes with an injury suppose they are all we are capable of signing ,some others are never fit enough to play before they pick up another injury what a waste of wages Hyam,Best,Williams, i could go on .

iaintaylorx - Spot on with your analysis regarding Bru, it's a crying shame that MM stifles any player capable of string a few passes together, but these kind of players just do not work with the system he stubbornly adheres too.

Interesting watching the Chelsea game on Monday night, they played with 5 at the back with Kante and Matic playing just in front, very similar to how MM sets up, however the big difference between them and us is they have players capable of retaining possession at the back, and then moving the ball through the midfield. I know that you cannot compare us to Chelsea, as that's unfair, but the footballing philosophy's is the same at what ever level your playing at, and can be achieved with the right style, and the right blend of players.

So many injuries during training. I am not too concerned about Bru or Moore. It will give Sears and Pitman another chance as the game changed for the better when they both came on at Barnsley.

I'm pleased Taylor is fit and raring to go. Hopefully with a game on Monday and a week off for Internationals he will be ready to play on 1st April. The problem will be working out who will be dropped to fit him in. I can't see it being Chambers, Berra or Knudsen so guess when he is fit enough to play in the first team it will be Tommy Smith on the bench again.

It would be good so see Jonny Williams have some time off the bench too.

Agreed.
But the worst of it is that so many of them come in training !

Course in the good old days they'd pick up injuries in Tracy's, the First Floor Club, the Bandbox........

Bru really hasn't pushed on, but in fairness he is another who has been played out of position and had to inherit the negative McCarthy tactics, which isn't his game.

Appreciate we need to give Moore a chance, but frankly he looks like a £5K signing who wasn't good enough for Forest Green.

Unless Williams is likely to be here next season - and his injury record suggests he wouldn't be a particularly reliable signing - then I see little point of him playing as we look to next season.

The injuries just keep coming! Players that can't keep fit are a liability so time to review contracts very carefully.

Neither of these two are first on teamsheet so opportunity knocks for Bish Pitman Sears and poss Rowe.

Cat, can't really comment on the Bru situation as i live up to my name these days! However, you're absolutely spot on with your second paragraph. You don't have to be Chelsea (or Barcelona for that matter), to play in a similar way. Control the ball, pass and move. Is it really that difficult?

armchaircritic- thanks for your comments. Sorry you don't attend games any more, for what ever reason......🙁
It really isn't that difficult, IMO, but under the current regime it appears to be. We are lacking ball players in central defence, and in the holding midfield areas, and there lays the short term problem. On a positive note, Webster is capable. as is Taylor (when fit) and Smith maybe?, to a lesser degree. Skuse and Dave are not up to it, nor are Chambers or Berra, although good solid defenders they do not FIT with this style, hence the panicking hoofball when put under pressure. These are areas we need to improve in once MM has gone, along with a no.9, then hopefully we can be entertained AGAIN, whether we win, lose or draw, watching it from the ground or from an armchair!!!!!.

I like Bru but I'm not convinced by the fans' favourite stuff. Yes, he can pass but he's too lightweight, too inconsistent and goes missing in games.
I agree he is more comfortable on the ball than others but his passing can be very hit and miss - that's the player's fault not Mick's.
You can blame Mick for playing him in different positions but Bru hasn't dictated many games wherever he's played.
