McCarthy Confirms Douglas Will Move on in Summer
Wednesday, 15th Mar 2017 14:11

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that midfielder Jonny Douglas will move on at the end of the season when his contract is up.

The 35-year-old joined the Blues two summers ago from Brentford on a free transfer and has made 51 starts and 10 sub appearances, scoring three goals.

“Dougie, when his contract comes to an end, there’s no doubt he’ll be leaving,” McCarthy said. “But he’s been a fabulous player for us, a great servant.

“And he’s been unlucky this year. I still go back to the goal he scored against Norwich and it was disallowed.”

McCarthy has previously confirmed that striker Leon Best wouldn’t play for him again and will leave the club in the summer as will midfielder Giles Coke, who has spent the whole campaign on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Why does it take a highly paid manager over a season to work out a player is not good enough and give them an extra years contract ? Has happened too man times under MM Tabb , Nouble , Douglas , Gerken all played far too many games for us and got wages for little end product

But are we all confident that he will move? Hasn't managed it since last August!

Look at the photo of Douglas above, even he is giving himself a big thumbs down, kind of says it all!

Good luck to Douglas, Coke and Best. Toure, Tabb and Stewart are all still looking for clubs and have yet to find one. Saying that, think Douglas and Best will do ok at a League 2 or National Conference side.

If only that goal had been given against Norwich. We could have then attempted and failed to hold on to an early lead as usual and Douglas would still be nowhere near good enough for a top half Championship team.

The Douglas situation reminds me of Ívar Ingimarsson who we signed from Reading in 2011. He only lasted 8 games before he realised his time was up. Douglas hobbled around for two seasons .

Glad he's moving on, he's not good enough but thanks for your effort dougie. Mick isn't going to slate him is he so don't understand all the posters complaining about that. Now is the time to build fir next season and hopefully get back in the direction we were heading.

Shocking how long Mick persevered with him, and long it took him to come to this conclusion. Our form with Douglas in the team is near bottom, our form without him is near top. Town supporters were fairly unanimous from early on in Douglas' stay that he was a hindrance to the team when better options were available. This more than anything makes me question our manager's judgement.
