Four Changes as Blues Face Wigan
Tuesday, 4th Apr 2017 19:11

Steven Taylor, Myles Kenlock, Toumani Diagouraga and Emyr Huws all start for the Blues in tonight’s crucial home game against second-bottom Wigan.

Taylor looks set to line up in a back three alongside skipper Luke Chambers and Christophe Berra. Jordan Spence and Kenlock are the wing-backs with Jonas Knudsen missing from the 18 with a shoulder injury.

Huws and Diagouraga are in midfield along with Grant Ward with Cole Skuse missing due to the concussion he suffered on Saturday.

Freddie Sears starts up front alongside David McGoldrick with Tom Lawrence still not ready to return. Jonathan Douglas is missing from the 18, while Brett Pitman drops to the bench.

Jonny Williams is on the bench for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury in the Blues’ 3-2 win at Wigan in December. Former Blue Alex Bruce is among the subs for the Latics.

Town: Bialkowski, Spence, Chambers (c), Taylor, Berra, Kenlock, Diagouraga, Ward, Huws, McGoldrick, Sears. Subs: Gerken, T Smith, Pitman, Bru, Williams, Moore, Samuel.

Wigan: Gilks, Buxton, Perkins, Power, MacDonald, Jacobs, Morgan, Warnock (c), Hanson, Colclough, Burn. Subs: Haugaard, James, Gilbey, Obertan, Connolly, Bruce, Byrne. Referee: Andy Davies (Hampshire).

Couldn't make it tonight. But that actually looks a half decent line up.

Weirdly considerably more positive about our prospects tonight with this line up! No Skuse, no Douglas, no Jonas at left (wing) back, Freddie up front... it's the sort of line up the fans have been crying out for all season!

I don't understand having three strikers on the bench and no Emmanuel. Oh well, that won't make the difference (hopefully!).

Three points tonight, please, please, please...

Amazing what can happen when Skuse isn't near the side.

A team that can attack - I like it.
Sears and McGoldrick can do some damage together, but Pitman must be wondering about his future......would love him to come off the bench and score the winner tonight

Not a bad starting eleven, or bench for that matter. Good luck to them all.

But saturdays MOTM douggie is missing how will we cope?! Mick bigs up Douglas and supports him all week then drops hip out the whole squad. The man has lost it can't wait till he goes!

Moosejyuce...totally agree with you , shame our highly paid manager will only do it when forced into it by injury . 2- 0 win

Better line up but Sears and McGoldrick are hardly prolific goal scorers. A game to win but with a 5-3-2 which will probably look like a 5-4-1 formation this could be a draw too.

Better looking side than Saturday with the absence of Skuse and Douglas, just a shame about Smith on the bench - Berra's days are numbered. Expecting a win tonight but we won't do it comfortably.

.No "In A Different Class" + since Saturday now suddenly also "An example to ANY young professional" Snooze Doggy Douglas, even among the 18???????

(Ohhh well I guess he is not feeling well.... hmme could he possibly still might be hyperventilating or just out of breath, after his according to the super shrewd Dino: "MOTM-like" 95 minutes against Brom???. lol :-) Okaaaaye bad/insensitive joke, sorry!, and thus what I really wanted to say was: Whatever ails you, a sincerely wish of speedy recovery from to you Mr. Douglas! And that's basically because in my personal book you NEVER EVER wish serious ill on anybody, even those you don't particular rate or remotely agree with! Period!)

On a different note I humbly wish to retract my scoring prediction from earlier this lovely Tuesday (i.e. Hoof Town 2 - Wigan Infirmary 3) lol, as I've since become fully aware that the Latics are now pretty much ALL OUT of anybody remotely capable / or having a record of posing as goal threat at this here 2nd tie level!!! .. with the small exception of Mr. Jacobs a converted midfielder, with his meager 3 goals!
So ehmmmm why don't we JUST "double-team" him :-) and then voila! there is no bloody way imho we cannot at least secure another "excellent 1-point" draw for the draw-obsessed Dino.... as unless we commit a malady of defensive foul-ups the Latics should at the very most not be able to score no more than once! New prediction then 1-1 or IF, and that's a pretty big IF, everybody wearing the shirt really "shows up" and furthermore is also "allowed" to attack today, well then maybe 3-1 to us then! :-)

McGoldrick and Sears not much of a goal threat there then, if the lad from Reading was so impressive on Sat why is he not playing

Our illustrious team will each have nose bleeds at 2 nil up.. Not sure they have the clinical heads to get a few more.. Hope I'm totally wrong!

Usual negative dicks on here!

pragmatic - I think most comments reflect the "delight" at having an attacking line up, yes only through being forced into it, but the scoreline against an awful Wigan who still needed to be beaten, shows all those pre match statements on here to be totally accurate.
