Town Spend £300,000 on Agents
Friday, 7th Apr 2017 20:28

Town spent £303,978 on agents and intermediaries between February 2016 and the end of this January’s transfer window.

FIFA regulations require the FA to publish clubs’ spending on intermediaries each April. Last year’s figures, in which Town spent £163,403 in fees covered only a four-month period between October 2015 and February 2016 so are not directly comparable with this year’s total.

Of the other clubs in the Championship only Rotherham (£261,633), Barnsley (£188,209) and Burton Albion (£163.331) paid out less than the Blues, while Newcastle top the table having spent £10,449,578.

It's awful to see that money draining out of the game, and in a way I am glad ITFC paid so little. On the other hand, agent fees are part of the modern game when teams sign players and seeing us with Barnsley, Burton and Rotherham (and well behind Blackburn and Wigan) goes to show the level of spending we are at under Marcus Evans. I am fearful 2017/18 will be another season of real struggle if we do not invest in the summer.

10 mil just on fees. Regardless of whether you hate ME or MM how can we seriously compete. Total joke.

Agents ruin football, simple. Where there is money, there is corruption.

Blackburn: 1.3 million on agents fees, and look where they are now.

Completely agree with @ Mark

It's a depressing fact that agents fees are very much part of modern day football. These figures sadly show our lack of competition in the transfer market. Shame.

Agents, parasites of the game and just goes to prove how dim footballers are that they can't negotiate their own pay deals and terms and conditions as we do.. Having said that I know there are some players who do not have agents

It's not just footballers who have agents. - authors, actors, singers etc employ them as well. I'm not defending the practice but nnegotiating a complex contract must be a specialist thing to do.

Within football there are probably good agents who generally care about their clients career and bad ones who couldn't care less if their client rotted in the reserves of a big club. Providing they received a good cut of any deal. Guess it's down to the player to choose a good agent in the first place.

Like it or not agents are a part of football and its not going to change anytime soon. Surely the story here is that Ipswich were the 4th lowest spenders with only Rotherham Burton and barnsley spending less, says it all really

Fees are part of football and it will not change , if we want to compete for promotion we need more investment on quality players rather than a large number of average players draining wages . The money spent by others will be nothing to what they get back for promotion , club been hiding behind the financial fair play rubbish when as the main sponsor as well as chairmen Marcus Evans puts in relatively little compared to other chairmen and needs to either back the club or sell on

Now on my way to Fulham.Lets just hope we put out a good attacking side and don't settle for a draw.🤔

The only reason we haven't spent money on agents is because we haven't signed anyone.

Still 300k too much. We should refuse to sign any player who has an agent and make engaging one a breach of contract punishable by instant dismissal. Better still, simply make players employees of the club : they can then pay a proper level of tax as well.

Said no team ever

However utopian that idea is - we just wouldn't sign any players and would sink down the league faster than a stone
