Skuse Back for Burton Trip
Wednesday, 12th Apr 2017 14:28

Town boss has confirmed midfielder Cole Skuse will be back for Friday evening’s game at Burton Albion having missed the last two matches after suffering a concussion in the 1-1 home draw with Birmingham.

“Cole is back, he’s all right, he’s fine,” manager Mick McCarthy said. “It’s nice to have him back, I spoke about him at the last press conference about how important he’s been over the last four years and that’s not been lessened by any stretch. It’s still lovely to have him back fit.”

Aside from that, McCarthy says he has no new injury problems: “They’re all OK, we had 21 bodies out today. We had a full squad.”

Adam Webster, Luke Hyam (both ankle), Steven Taylor (hamstring), Giles Coke (knee) and Jonas Knudsen (shoulder) remain sidelined.

Reflecting on the games against the Brewers and then Newcastle United at home on Monday, he added: “It’s going to be tough, it’s going to be a tough ask, Easter always is when the games come thick and fast.

“That was why so many of them played in the U23s game, Teddy Bishop, Doz, Danny Rowe, Dominic Samuel, Kieffer Moore, Josh Emmanuel, Diggers.

“We had a strong team out there and that was just to get them 90 minutes so if they need to be called upon they’re ready.”

'Back', or 'available'?

Likely to be the former, isn't it?

Skuse and Douglas against Burton then when we should be attacking and lo and behold he will drop Douglas against Newcastle 'cos he can't manage two games. Same ol' same ol'. YAWN

Mick will set us up to play for a draw.
Again.

And this is why McCarthy has to go. Scuse is not a match winner or a game saver. He provides no attacking impetus and doesn't protect the defence.
For goodness sake attack Burton and try to win the game.

BobbyBell - He hasn't mentioned Douglas for Burton, has he... So why bring him into it?

He's probably keeping him fresh for Newcastle anyway - remembering how he tore them apart up there with a swashbuckling powerful performance...

While MM is still here and with the players at his disposal we should go 4-4-2 with Bialkowski; Spence, Chambers, Berra or Smith, Kenlock; Ward, Huws, 'Dave', Lawrence; Sears and McGoldrick. I wanted this eleven to start against Fulham but it started the second half and we drew that 45 minutes 1-1 away at a play off chasing team, which is respectable. Only a mad man would revert back to Skuse and Douglas! Most fans have been well aware of their limitations for a long time but I thought the Lincoln embarassment highlighted their level as players for the entire nation to see? Well it did to everybody other than the man who matters, the one who keeps selecting them. Dare I say it but out of spite for the fans who state the obvious?! #pubtalk

Here we go again another side swipe at the fans by referring back to the pub talk incident. He won't 'let go will he. Milne you are a disgrace for allowing this. You must have been incompetent at the big company to get side-lined with this job. How often do you turn up? Have they given you an office? Are all your pencils sharp?

Its going to be a long tough time having to defend for 180 mins trying to protect to 0-0 draws, lets hope Murphy & Varney forget which end they are playing!

Will be the first name on the team sheet. Probably followed by Douglas.

Hoppy you made me smile thinking about that great video of Douglas at Newcastle. Was he strolling around looking for UFOs or just wondering if it was going to rain???? He was like a man in a thick fog without a compass.

All this talk of the world being on the brink of WW3, however, I have to say I find this story far more concerning! ;-)

Shouldn't be starting ahead of a number of other options against one of the leagues weaker sides but MM will be desperate for a few more chances to annoy supporters before he leaves in summer

I for one am ok with Skuse being back in the team but i do feel he needs to play higher up the pitch, as Dave did last week. If he "holds" 12 mts higher than he has this season similar to where he has played in previous seasons the whole team can do so also. For me one of the biggest problems this year has been we have been too deep consistantly. Skuse or Dave one holding only please MIck!
