McCarthy to Make Changes at Rotherham
Thursday, 20th Apr 2017 10:07

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed he will field a changed team when the Blues take on already-relegated Rotherham United at the New York Stadium on Saturday. However, he says he’ll play full strength sides in Town’s other two games with Sheffield Wednesday chasing the play-offs and Nottingham Forest battling relegation.

“I will change the team for Rotherham,” McCarthy told the club site. “I want to see a couple of players come in and see if they can make a challenge for their position.

“We’ve got Sheffield Wednesday here and I want to win that with a full strength team, hopefully playing like we did against Burton and Newcastle.

“We’re going to Nottingham Forest on the last day and looking at how things are going, there could be something riding on that. If that’s the case I won’t mess around with the team for that either.

“I think I have to respect the integrity of it all, I shouldn’t turn up with a team I wouldn’t normally pick and suddenly get slapped if it affects the top six or bottom three.”

January signings Danny Rowe and Kieffer Moore and academy products Andre Dozzell, Michael Crowe, Ben Morris, Tristan Nydam and Pat Webber could be among those to come into the reckoning for a place in Saturday’s squad.

McCarthy may want to look at on-loan Reading striker Dominic Samuel, who may be available on a permanent basis in the summer and who has so far made only three sub appearances for the Blues, while Teddy Bishop could also get some game time after another frustrating injury-hit season.

Would definately like to see Rowe, Dozzell, Teddy, Morris feature over the next couple of games. Maybe Nydam and Blanchfield as well.
Kiefer Moore has had enough chances already and doesn't look anything special in the slightest.
So if Mick is going to make changes to his team, is there any chance of a change of manager at the end of the season? Unlikely, but we can all dream.

i hope we don't make 6 or 7 changes for this game, it won't give a fair impression of how suited they are to the first team, sets them up for a disjointed performance as we've seen so often in the cup. far better to make maximum 2 or 3 changes to the established team for each game. would like to see rowe, crowe, dozzell, bishop, nydam and morris, and we should definitely leave out anyone not likely to be here next year (lawrence, berra?, diagouraga??, douglas!)

2 wins and out come all 6 still supporting a
Manager whose sell by date has long expired.

Save for a few additions, our squad is more than
sufficient - Sadly just managed badly.

McCarthy OUT

We've earned the right to play who we like in the team. We should be using all the games to try out 3 or 4 youngsters/fringe players in all of the remaining fixtures.

Do you think that if Huddersfield can only be in the play offs on the last game, they will field a full strength team? Unlikely, they'll save a few for the play offs. IE They'll look after themselves. We should do the same too.

I think Muck will now have an excuse if we lose to Rotherham (his record against them is poor, I can never forgive that home performance last season) and he now has come up with an excuse to play his favourites again!!

Totally agree with Surco72. Spot on pal.

And definitely no loan players!! Sorry Tom Lawrence. I love watching you play but we know you won't be staying sadly.

i'm happy with playing loanees if they're going to stay (or like samuel we could do with giving them more of a look), otherwise i agree with bluemachines, we need to be looking at next year

all I'm interested in now is to see how Evans is going to perform, and how long it takes before he does so .The end of season is upon us ,but in no time at all the new season will be looming. Im resigned to the fact McCarthy is not going anywhere ,so need to see what Evans is going to do. Personally I think it will just be a case of same sh#t ,different season .The McCarthy backers are all having multiple orgasms because we have won two on the bounce, but I think they will soon be back in their bunkers . We have only achieved survival this season because of Bart and loan players.

We aren't a charity. If we want to blood youngsters for the rest of the season, that's our prerogative. Other teams we advantage or disadvantage are irrelevant. I'd like to see players like Dozzell play all the remaining games. No better opportunity to develop youngsters. Our only priority for the remaining games is preparation for next season. Lawrence is gone, no point in playing him.

Or have I missed something??

The squad should be quite telling in terms of who will be here next season. I'm thinking that Bart will be sold. Berra will go up to Scotland. Chambers to Nottingham Forrest. We may even see the end of Skuse. Douglas is already leaving. Pitman won't want to stay. Moore probably isn't good enough. And on and on.

So the team at the start of next season might be Gerken, Kenlock, Webster, Taylor, Spence, Rowe, Huws, Bishop, new winger? , Sears, McGoldrick. With Crowe, Smith, Knudsen, Dozzell, Bru, Patterson, Samuel. Not that exciting a prospect but at least there is quite a bit of homegrown talent.

Total speculation by me of course but McCarthy did say a bit ago that some of the old hats would be leaving.

I hope that the fringe players give him food for thought!! but even if they play out of their skins will it sink in or are we back to the(favourite induced selections)norm at the start of the new season I fear the man will never change!!!!

@hoppy ... My fear is exactly that, the likes of Douglas being brought in instead. Two wins for Town on the bounce is a "Winning Streak" this season !

Would say it's absolutely pointless to play any loanee that's definitely leaving at the end of the season, in any of the three remaining games. On the subject of Kiefer Moore, i have an old friend dating back decades who i bumped into outside Asda about a month ago. He went to live in Yeovil (has family there) for two or three years and is now back again. He saw Yeovil play regularly and also the club Moore joined afterwards. Saw him play several times. His verdict? "absolutely useless". Just one persons opinion of course.

In Micks time here I keep on getting excited and optimistic about our new look creative
Midfield only to be disappointed by the midfield he plays I think Skuse Is a good holding midfield player but along side him you want a creative forward thinking player. I guess you all knew that anyhow,Can someone please tell our Manager. Much obliterated

You watch, we will play creative football for the next two games but as soon as the season starts it will be back to the same boring old rubbish
