Blues Defeat of Newcastle Picks Up LMA Award
Friday, 21st Apr 2017 13:37

Town’s 3-1 home win against Newcastle United on Monday has been named the League Managers Association’s LG Performance of the Week.

A five-man panel made up of LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson, ex-Blues boss Joe Royle, Sir Alex Ferguson, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry decides which club’s display is worthy of the award.

Blues boss Mick McCarthy was presented with a bottle of champagne, courtesy of Tanners Wines, and an LG Performance of the Week trophy at Playford Road earlier today.

Didn't even know there was an award for that. What does that say about us?

Oh dear, does that mean we may have to put up with Mick the Magnificent for another 3 years?

Still Barca are out of the Champions League now!

Although it was only one game Mick must take a lot of plaudits for this excellent display on Monday;but one swallow doesn't make a summer.

Oh no he will be impossible now another pointless(just like us) gong for his shoebox that the great Skusey helped him win, I would love to see a manager of our club get manager of the year for an attacking promotion campaign not for one flippin match coupled with Barnsley at home and villa away when we looked a decent side!!!!!!!

performance of the season without a doubt, but we need more than 1 a season. Seasider points out one swallow doesnt make a summer, true that!

Proves all us doubters wrong!! McCarthy is great he's going to love reminding us of his performance of the week award, just after we've been bored to death by some 0-0 10 men in defence display!!

I'm getting increasingly tired of the anti Mick brigade and their lack of any real replacement options who could come in and operate on the same financial constraints that he has for the last four years.

This season we have seen several injuries to key players at the wrong time that has severely restricted his ability to put the kind of side out that we witnessed on Monday. There is not a better and available manager out there who could simply achieve what Mick continues to do season in and season out, which is keep us at the level we probably are given the size and support of our club. Our spend this season is the lowest other than any other club than the one we face today so what do you expect. Instead of getting on his back, embrace what he has achieved, salvation in his first season from a position of 7 points adrift at the foot of the league in November to miss table security at the end of it and then a to six finish the next ahead of clubs that spent millions.

I took pleasure last week in renewing my season ticket for the year ahead and will be getting behind the lads again all of next season, my suggestion is that some of you negative so called fans do the same and stop moaning.

Well done Mick.

Wooly, you are absolutely right. Mick is the man for the job for maintaining what where we currently are. The problem is, we are a tedious team to watch in the bottom half of the championship table.

Yes, he did a good job.
Yes, he needs money.
No, I can't name the perfect replacement off the top of my head.

Here's the thing. What happened 4 seasons ago is ancient history in football terms.
He isn't getting any money

Football is a contest, a competition and a gamble. And if the chairman won't gamble on player investment, we have to try SOMETHING different. Otherwise we can expect the same tedium next term.
