Sunday’s Ipswich Town Legends match at Bury Town’s Ram Meadow helped raise more than £6,500 for MY WiSH Charity’s Forget-Me-Not Dementia Campaign and the ITFC Academy.

The game has become a popular annual fixture and Sunday’s event, which saw an equal amount of legends on each team for the first time, was no different with hundreds attending to see the likes of Matt Holland, Russell Osman, Alan Lee, David Wright, Darren Currie and Gavin Johnson in action. Chris Kiwomya and Jason Dozzell managed the two sides.

The match brought in more than £5,000 with an extra £1,400 raised from an Evening With Terry Butcher and Matt Holland — held in conjunction with the Ipswich Town Supporters Club - on Thursday 13th April.

This takes the total raised from the event to more than £21,000 since it first started four years ago.

Sue Smith, fundraising manager for My WiSH Charity which supports West Suffolk Hospital, said: “We wanted to try something different this year by pitting legends against legends and we are delighted with how much was raised for two very worthwhile causes.

“We would like to thank everyone who supported both the legends evening and also Sunday’s match.”

The match was closely fought with the Away Legends narrowly winning 4-3. The scorers for the Home Legends were Alan Lee, Oliver Page and Jarrod Ellis while the Away goalscorers were Charlie Hitch (2), Will Trott and Jon Waters.

The event was organised in conjunction with Simon Milton, academy director at Ipswich Town, who went off injured after rupturing his Achilles.

Smith added that the whole of My WiSH Charity wanted to thank Milton for all of his support since the match first started and to wish him a speedy recovery.

hoppy added 11:09 - Apr 25 Great to see a good amount raised. It was a very enjoyable afternoon too - with the exception of seeing Milts' injury of course. One or two of the players on show could do a job in our present team as it happens... some of the ex-pros too!! Where 'the likes of' were concerned, there was additionally Wayne Brown to those listed above - as well as Milts, obviously.

Russell Osman has great presence. Never saw them play previously. Met up with some other Ipswich fans. Great day out! :)
