Skipper Chambers Signs New Deal
Friday, 5th May 2017 10:31

Town have announced that skipper Luke Chambers has signed a new two-year deal.

The Blues had already confirmed their intention to exercise the one-year option in the 31-year-old’s previous contract.

"I never envisaged leaving and I'm pleased to get things sorted now. I'm looking forward to the future now," the central defender or right-back told Ipswich Player HD.

Chambers putting pen to paper on a new deal ends months of speculation regarding his future, his former club Nottingham Forest - who the Blues meet in Sunday's final day game at the City Ground - having made a move for him on the final day of the January transfer window.

Great news. Now find a manager that plays him CB only.

More influential than the manager himself, one of the highlights was his reaction after we scored against Newcastle.

Fantastic news! About time too.

Why did it take so long to offer him another contract when it was obvious months ago that he wanted to stay?

He loves Ipswich (as he has said many times) and wants to stay with his family there. A very passionate player and one that the others all look up to.

This is really good news! The guy is a huge influence in the dressing room and a fantastic captain! COYB!

Seems to me that if Webster is fit then he is the first choice right CB - so we can look forward to Chambers at full back again (unless playing three CBs)

Great news though am a little worried about what that means for next season as I personally have him behind Tommy and Webster for 2 centre back slots - when fit they would be a formidable back 3 with enough agility to cope with the position....unlike Berra who I totally respect for his efforts, but whose time with us is surely up.

I am getting the distinct feeling here that next season is going to mirror this extremely poor campaign to a tee, so much for massive changes!!. It's going to be interesting which player is sacrificed as a result of Chambers being a nailed on starter, along with Skuse and many others I suspect. It's looking like favourites, square pegs etc etc will continue, i sincerely hope I'm wrong though, but the doubts are clearly there.

Love this guy. Not the best footballer to have played for the club but will put everything on the line for the team and I believe the players look up to him which is extremely important. Lets hope his passion and desire to succeed here rubs off on everyone next season.

Good. At least he's practically guaranteed to be played at centre back (barring an emergency) now, even the manager has finally accepted the reality.
Chambers., Webster & Smith is a solid looking centre back unit at Championship level, and any 2 of them should be more than capable of playing in a back 4.
Berra will surely leave. Maybe Taylor could join on some sort of 'pay as you play' deal and Knudsen to step in if needed. Then Emmanuel or Spence on the right and Kenlock on the left. It's not bad. Keeping Bart behind them would be fantastic.

Really pleased this has been done , Chambers is a very competent central defender for the championship . Play him in a back three with Webster and Smith with Ward and Kenlock as wing backs .
Or if we don't sign a new central defensive midfielder play Webster in there like Spurs have done with Dier , Webster is more than capable with the ball

He has been an asset to our club, this new deal is both good news and a reward for him. I just hope that Chambers is not our first choice on RB come the new season. Because he isn't one. Having said that, I do like the prospect of Chambers and Smith battling it out for the right sided place in central defense, or them both playing in a 3 CB defense.

Great news. This deal shows that we need to act fast and tie our best players up to longer (and decent) contracts - e.g. Bart - such that we can start to look ahead to next season and fend off any interest from other clubs.

ITFC pushed their luck with this one leaving it late, learn from that, and get Bart tied down ASAP, offer Spence at least a 1 year deal, and extend McGoldrick's contract by a further year to 2019.

A good start to hopefully a very bust coupe of months - well done ITFC

First bit of good news this summer...Now let's hope the club don't pi55 about and sign Emyr Huws up sooner rather than later.

Very good news. He's a very good centre half, with the emphasis on CENTRE HALF.

Good news and as others are saying,he should not have been kept in doubt about his future here.
Chambo means a lot to our club and our club means a lot to him.
