Spence Keen to Stay at Town
Monday, 8th May 2017 12:04

Defender Jordan Spence reiterated his desire to stay with Town following the 3-0 final-day defeat at Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The 26-year-old joined the Blues on a short-term deal in January, having been on trial earlier in the season, and is out of contract in the summer with Forest and Bristol City also reported to be interested in signing him.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed it here," the former West Ham and MK Dons man told Ipswich Player HD.

"I would like to stay so hopefully everything can get resolved. As long as I'm wanted here I would like to stay here.”

Reflecting on the match, he added: "We controlled the game in the first half but gave away a soft goal in a really defendable situation.

"Then the second goal came so we started to chase the game and begun to look a bit disjointed. If you play as well as we did in the first half, you expect to come away with something so we're disappointed.

"They were far more clinical than us. While we were in the ascendancy we needed to take our chances so fair play to them for doing that. You could feel the nervousness at 0-0 and at 1-0 but unfortunately we couldn't capitalise.

"Because of the pitch invasion, it was disappointing not to be able to go over and thank the fans but it was great support.”

Manager Mick McCarthy says he is keen to sign Spence on a longer term deal and also to sign midfielder Emyr Huws, who has been on loan from Cardiff, on a permanent basis.

“We’re talking to both of them, both their agents,” he said. “You just don’t know, do you? We’ll wait and see but I’m hopeful we will.”

While McCarthy is keen to make early additions to his squad, he admits that it can take time to get deals done.

“It might have to be a patient, waiting game because players will have other options,” he added. “If the ones who we want we can get them done then I’d sooner have them done because it gives us all a lift.”

If the club has any ambition of being in the top six, then I'm afraid Sence isn't
quite good enough, having said that excluding loans how many of our entire team/squad would get into any of the top six.teams,Bart maybe, says it all really.

Done okay ,consistent performer, priority is a clinical finisher like Forest have but i hope MM is not here to coach him or it will be pointless.

He was our MOM for me yesterday - that's probably not saying much, I know! I think he could be good for us with a consistent run in the team. Comes across as a really nice, humble articulate chap, too. Sign him up!

Think he's done quite well since getting into the side - it's just been nice to see a proper right back after years of Chambers being stupidly played out of position.

As for Emanuel - the guy is a hulk and still only 18 - can see him covering the central defence long term aswell as RB.

Bloke is bang average...
No better than Emmanuel.
Not the answer to our problems.

If he stays he stays but I'd rather we bought or got an experienced Full back to cover and guide Emmanuel

of course hed be keen hes dogs$i5! he got the runaround from Atsu against toon blowing out his ring. and then since then we been awful and lost the remaining games. not good enough for me yes hes athletic but is not a leader or a ball playing fullback. this is the area that is essential in the summer a decent left back and right back that are comfortable in possesion. takes so much pressure off the midfield and is the outlet to build further up the field. emmanuel and kenlock are still too inwxperienced and are handy backups. all the top sides have two quality fullbacks ie rose and walker for tottenham. unfortuatelu weve sold argubly 2 of the best left backs in the division and failed to replace and same goes for striker! we need lb rb quality central mid and a striker in summer

We need strength in depth and he would be a good addition but we need a quality holding midfielder(not the premiership class exskuse for one) another one who can take the game by the scruff of it's neck and provide the two quality strikers we need with some decent service but in all honesty I cannot see quality players wanting to sign for a train crash(that is I.T.F.C) while the present station master remains in charge

He works with a team that kind of lets down the great players like Bart and Spence. Good player who is fantastic at sticking on his man. KEEP HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wouldn't be disappointed if he were to stay. Wouldn't be that disappointed if he left, providing we aren't beaten on wages by a smaller club!

I think he's done okay since he's been here and certainly surprised MK Dons didn't want him but whether he's the future here as a starting full back is very much up for question, squad player maybe.

Sponsors and Supporters MoM in last two games, makes me wonder how many people watch the games.

Just checked out his stats on all 3 main supporters areas. He is our top performing outfielder on all 3 sites, and that includes Lawrence. His overall rating here is 6.62. Giving away Spence for free is like giving up on Lawrence (if he was our player). Being critical of players is part and parcel of being a supporter, but criticism of Bart, Lawrence and Spence is just stupid IMO. Funnily enough it's Barts critics who are also having a go at Spence.

I was shaky about him when he first arrived, but he's proved me monumentally wrong. An outstanding player at this level.

I'd rather trust a few thousand fans who vote every game over a handful of supporters who wouldn't be happy if we had a young Gary Neville at Right-Back. We FINALLY get this position sorted and people are saying that he's a bad player. He's been our most consistent performer (except Bart) since January. He's being scouted by Bristol City, Brighton and Forest. He's a WANTED player. World-Class. no, but that's obviously what some of you expect. I hear Jonas Hector has yet to sign a new contract. Perhaps we should sign him up instead? Fans rave about Spence and he's a firm fan favourite. Ludicrous if we lose him.

Potentially a good wing back, if only McCarthy would play him in that role

Spence and Kenlock are two of the most forward thinking players we have at the club and are always looking to carry the ball forward.

Need more players like this next season unlike the passengers (Skuse)
