Town Linked With Dutch Midfielder
Monday, 8th May 2017 20:30

Town are interested in De Graafschap midfielder and captain Bryan Smeets, according to a report in Holland.

Smeets, 24, is out of contract having turned down new terms with his current club, from whom the Blues signed Fabian Wilnis in 1999, who play in the Jupiler League (second tier).

According to FoxSports.nl, the Blues are very keen on the former Dutch U17 international, who scored three goals and claimed nine assists during 2016/17, as are a number of lower ranking Eredivisie clubs.

Smeets, who is 5ft 11½in tall, started his career with his hometown club MVV Maastricht before joining De Graafschap in 2015.

At the end of the 2015/16 campaign Smeets scored the goal which determined the direction of the Dutch league title when he netted for De Graafschap against Ajax on the final day. Until that point Ajax were on their way to the Eredivisie championship, but because of his goal the title went to PSV Eindhoven.

All of those saying 'why doesn't MM do the decent thing and fall on his sword?' - come on, none of you would resign from your job, you'd wait to be told to leave. Especially if there was £1m riding on it....

Sad times, but let's face the truth. It is up to ME to make the call (and pay the comp) - don't expect Dino to jump....(

This would be a great signing, but actually Phil could you just tell us about players we've actually signed so I can get some sleep between now and August.

Someone may have already said this as I haven't read the comments. But what we really need is somebody like this. Skuse does have the job that he should do. Give him credit he played some good long range passes Sunday. But a CDM in this league should be able to control the game. Distribute the ball out wide, through the middle whilst doing the dirty work defensively.
Perfect example was Barry Bannan last week. He absolutely bossed it whilst winning everything. And played 2 great balls through for their goal. I'm sure Huws could be capable of this as he's naturally a CDM and he distributes the ball well.
Mind you we had the perfect player for this position... Conor Hourihane....

far too early for ITFC to do anything about bringing in players, the norm is for a last knockings scramble for the leftovers .

Mick the Mighty used to visit the land of his ancestors for several of his signings, none of which I can recall worked out;so could this mean that there is some mileage in the rumour about the Dutch Manager.
I am sure that me and thousands of others would love this to be true, because could you imagine Magical Mick going onto the Continent to get those blokes who play tippy tappy footy.Oh I forgot we have Jonas from Scandinavia.got

Norfolk bluey, you're getting mixed up. The 36000 crowd was for an evening match V Leeds. I was in the East stand and the score was 6-0 against Man U and could have been 8 -0 but for 2 missed penalties

Lets give the club chance, the cynic in me says there will be no or little cash available and we will lose at least one good player but never see the fee reinvested.

However lets just wait and see, there will be many links I'm sure.
