Pitman and Bru Can Leave Town
Wednesday, 10th May 2017 10:52

TWTD understands that striker Brett Pitman and midfielder Kevin Bru have been told they can leave Town if they find themselves new clubs over the summer.

The duo have been unable to establish themselves as regulars this season with Bru making 16 starts and 12 sub appearances, scoring once, and Pitman netting four times in 14 starts and nine games from the bench. Both have a year remaining on their Town contracts.

Pitman, 29, joined the Blues in the summer of 2015 on a free transfer from AFC Bournemouth following their promotion to the Premier League.

The one-time Bristol City frontman was last season’s top scorer on 11 goals but was again in and out of the starting XI.

In total Jersey-born Pitman has made 42 starts and 28 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring 15 times.

Bru, 28, signed for Town in the summer of 2014 after a trial having left Bulgarian side Levski Sofia.

The Paris-born Mauritius international has made 59 starts and 35 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring four goals.

That Bru and Pitman are being allowed to move on comes as no surprise with Town boss Mick McCarthy expecting a summer of change at Portman Road, viewing the close season as “a real opportunity to freshen [the squad] up”.

The Blues manager is keen to bring in a number of new players with the full-time recruitment of loan midfielder Emyr Huws from Cardiff City also among his summer plans, while we understand McCarthy is also keen to sign striker Dominic Samuel, who has been on loan from Reading, on a permanent basis.

Yesterday, out-of-contract central defender Christophe Berra’s departure was confirmed with various reports this morning claiming the 32-year-old Scotland international’s return to his hometown club Hearts will be confirmed in the next few days.

The Blues are also again linked with Hearts’ Scotland international right-back Callum Paterson, who was previously mentioned in connection with the Blues as part of a swap deal with Berra in January.

However, with Town keen to keep hold of short-term signing Jordan Spence and with Josh Emmanuel also at the club, a move for another right-back seems unlikely at this stage.

If we are relying on Hyam the all I can say is God help us!

I can understand Bru being released as we seem to have a lot of mid-fielders especially with Bishop and Hyam being fit again (hopefully) and keeping Huws(fingers crossed) but Pitman?

I can only think he has fallen out with Mick because it wasn't that long ago we were calling him our super sub as he was performing really well from the bench.

I assume that means we will be keeping Moore!

Neither player consistant enough for 90 mins. Showed promised but only after a substitute appearance. In saying this I wondered how Paul Mariner would have faired if he had had Skuses & Douglas to supply him

It's a positive move if we are bringing in the right players instead of them or going to give more game time to our up & coming youngsters.
Both have abilities that make them capable of succeeding at Championship level, but neither really have the quality & consistency required to be a first XI stalwart in a promotion chasing outfit.
Pitman is probably the best finisher we have had since Marcus Stewart (as a striker anyway - Reuser was pretty deadly too), but his overall game was not consistently strong enough to justify starting him week in, week out. Very dependant on others providing him with the chances & low on being a provider himself. As others have said, in the right team with the right style of play for him, he could score 20 goals a season, but that team is never going to be us, especially with MM in charge.
As for Bru, I liked him fine, but was never rushing to put him in middle if everyone else was fit. Clearly (unfortunately) Skuse will be a guaranteed starter, with Hyam now back fit as another option for the more defensive/holding midfield role. Hopefully Huws will sign on permanently and become another fixture in the middle. Even if we play with centre in the midfield, that still leave Ward, Bishop, Dozzell, Benyu and maybe even Nydam fighting it out for the more creative role. On their day I would be more excited by the prospect of any of them than another season of Bru.
That's without even considering additions to the squad such as the Dutch lad mentioned a couple of days ago. I just don't see the need for keeping Bru on.

Agree with those that think Pittman could score a lot more goals in the right attacking-minded + creative (i.e. servicing their often lone strikers with something other than mostly Hoof balls!). Is not personally gonna miss him though except perhaps as someone "a bit dangerous" to come off the bench, as I don't really fancy his other general contribution or general commitment on the field, but again you simply have to say that at this here specific level he is actually fairly prolific inside the box and his record (goals per minutes played) shows it.

Otherwise have you all seen that the "venerable" :-) Chris Brammer seems to think we will hard target all 3 relegated teams top players (i.e. them with some with goals in them!) Adeyemi, Powell, Gallagher, Ward etc..... Super Sound Thinking there Chris! :-) LOL.... only thing he doesn't "bother" to explain is why on earth these people would wanna come here when they not only will have other takers among better and/or less dysfunctional Championship teams, but fundamentally be super willing & eager to play under the Dreaded Dino and his trademark prehistoric 'defend first, attack later ... maybe!', 'always-match-the-opponent' instead of letting them match & worry about us, inherently draw-happy and thus just over-all predominantly NEGATIVE susceptible style???

And lastly to all those giving Bru's departure (imho good riddance!) are mentioning Lucky Luke Hyam in some form or another:
Sure it's mighty fine & noble that you hope he is fully fit and recovered whether you rate him or not .... but imho ehmmm how about ALSO Sparing A Thought for someone else (who BTW is approx. 3 times as valuable a midfield player as Lucky Luke and somebody I wouldn't mind wearing a ITFC shirt was he ever to returns a 100% as to his 2015/2016 form) namely the victim of Hyam's most notorious SICKENING "challenge" i.e. the well- thought-of Mr. Allan Judge who has yet to play a game since his double lower-leg fracture courtesy of Mr. Hyam on April 9, 2016, and whom I just read last month is now set to undergo even further surgery again to "help the healing process" .... Just sayin'

It's crazy to let Pitman go. He's one of our more naturally talented players but he's not suited to McCarthy's 'style' of football. An intelligent, ball-to-feet player and a good finisher who has more than proven himself in this division with Bournemouth. Our loss will be another Championship side's gain.

I can understand Bru. He's a solid player but perhaps not good enough to establish himself at this level. A decent servant to the club, I wish him well wherever he ends up.

MicksZzZTactics - there was nothing wrong with Hyam's tackle mate. He won the ball , his studs weren't showing and it wasn't high up Judge's leg. The problem was that he came in so quickly that Judge's leg was planted and he didn't have time to go 'loose', as it were. Sad, but that's football...

Gotta keep both IMO, Bru does make the odd forward pass (more than some others...).
Pitman will always score goals but he needs someone up front with him to do that, he is not a lone striker.
Moore is not the answer.

Pitman is a difficult player to place, his movement and finishing are excellent, however doesn't have the height and strength to be a targetman, quick enough to play on the shoulder or have the technique and creativity to be a link man.

Bru had some great games but by far isn't consistent enough to rely on and stand in the way of Bishop/Dozzell/McDonnell/Benyu's progress

Will get loads of minuses but think we should also release Hyam and Bishop. Neither in
my opinion are what we need for the future.

@slambo

Well that's YOUR entitled personal take on it -- so not need to neither lecture nor patronize me mate! -- I beg to differ though! ... and ohhh so does just plenty of other ITFC fans! not to mention just about ANY media outside of Suffolk!!!

Although there are no malicious intent and one's studs aren't way up a "challenge" can still be deemed **objectively** "reckless" if common sense & some basic anatomical know-how, especially giving the opponent current stance bodily balance etc., makes it **highly likely** that in you "challenging" him the exact way Mr. Hyam CHOSE to do it will result in injury!

dont understand the logic in getting rid of pittman , bit of a disgrace playing samuel sunday when he was on the bench, certainly samuel and moore aint got it at this level ,seen more movement and awareness down the local pub on a saturday night !

We are looking to offload Pitman and sign Samuel??!! Oh dear.

Can understand Bru moving on. Hasn't pushed on and goes missing in games. Pitman is a shame, but out of favour.

With so many players leaving, I do wonder how on earth we are planning to replace them all. Hopefully not cheaper options!

Oh dear, the more I read about transfers and pre-season friendlies;the more I think that Mick McCarthy will be with us again next season.

If we are not careful Evans will turn out like the Venky's and the club will sink further.

Surely does he not look back and remember what it was like when he took over;and to think the reason he gave for getting rid of the incumbent manager Jim Magilton,at the time, was that he didn't think he could get us promotion to the Premier.

Ipswich was 7th in the Championship after beating Norwich 2-1.How long is it since we have beaten the Canaries who are now by far and away the premier team in East Anglia. This has happened in the disastrous years that Evans has owned this club.

Thank you Mr Sheepshanks

......... does ANYTHING surprise us about Ipswich Town FC, and the people 'supposedly' running it anymore ?.

........ all 'good blokes', 'freebies' and 'has beens' - get your agent on the phone to McCarthy. Excellent chance of a deal sooner rather than later.

Must be able to defend, match the opposition tactics (however poor they may be) - not forgetting main criteria of being a good bloke. Skill and flair not necessary at all.

Bru always looked to play a forward ball to feet in the area which is the service that Pitman thrives on but of course when you play 7 defenders at home you can understand their frustrations as they sit on the bench both have been hung out to dry by our esteemed leader(great manager me) for having(in Pitmans case) the audacity to question his selection policy! as they are not creeps(Mr Skuse) they will be gone while this is against the grain as a long standing Town fan I really hope that Pits goes to another championship club who play to his strengths and gets goals home and away to rub the arrogant idiot's nose in it

Bru has dropped out of favour but has a physical presence and a good squad player. Pitman is certainly one of our better players and surely should have started more games - he will be difficult to replace.

Surely Pitman is better than Moore! But of course McCarthy knows beter than everybody else doesn't he!

Even if a decent finisher, Pitman could slow down a ruddy funeral so good to get rid of him. Enjoyed the continental signing of Bru from Bulgarian giants Levski Sofia - that tickled my Football Manager genes, so sad to see him go.

itfctrent added 19:36 - May 10
And me. Arguably our best finisher, but like so many players, he has been ruined by Mick's tactics. He's not a target man, he is very good in a team that plays on the floor, but not when our defenders punt the ball to the opposition defenders. Its very confusing why he's being let go on a free as well. Surely he and Bru would go for a couple of 100k each thus boosting our little transfer kitty.

As for Bru, I think he's a really great player. I liked the post on twtd about him as well. He does things that people daren't try. Yes he's lightweight, yes he's inconsistent, but I'd much rather him playing in the team than Skuglas.

I can see both going to championship clubs next season, and both scoring against us showing what we have missed, or what they can do if properly man managed.

There's also rumours of Bart leaving. I worry that our fickle management (not just directed at Marcus, whom I am largely supportive of), will accept a 7 figure bid and continue to treat us fans like dirt. League 1 beckons if this happens, as I can't see us signing anyone for money, just more has beens and rejects.

Is this the same Luke Hyam you said you hoped was injured for the season as you did not want him any where near the first team??

Typical! - a quick clear out but will these players be replaced and with some quality?
Pittman I reckon has fallen out with McCarthy and have to say doesn't do enough when he is on it and as for Bru who shows glimpses of quality also doesn't do enough either, so being shown the door doesn't really surprise me, I'd just like to see some players of note come in beforehand as trusting this club at present is like trusting Charlie Bronson to bring up your children.

blueboy1981 added 21:13 - May 10
......... give both players some credit - neither player has been played to there strengths. Something McCarthy is neither capable, or humble enough to do. Along with several others, of course - alienated if they dare to voice an opinion.

Can only assume that Evans has only one plan - see the Club down the pan, buy the ground etc; and sell on for re-development.

Is anyone confident enough in this man to dismiss it ........ ?? Councils are up for off loading anything at the moment. And we all know that......... think about it !!

MadDog added 21:19 - May 10
Shame about Pitman-very good finisher but obviously not a McCarthy player as not a target man & to be put behind Moore no surprise he'll be off. Bru never been good enoug-no strength & always chasing play. Hate to think what next season will bring with Mick still in charge!!
