Wolves Eyeing Bialkowski Move
Wednesday, 10th May 2017 14:22

TWTD understands that Town’s Championship rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers are eyeing a summer move for keeper Bartosz Bialkowski.

The 29-year-old Pole, who was named the Blues’ Supporters Player of the Year for the second successive season last month, revealed in March that a number of clubs made enquiries regarding his availability during the January transfer window with the club making it clear he was going nowhere.

However, Town may well be willing to cash in on the former Southampton and Notts County man this summer as manager Mick McCarthy looks to shake up his squad.

Whether Wolves - or any other interested parties who emerge - would be willing to pay a fee the Blues would accept remains to be seen.

Bialkowski, who has a year left on his contract with Town having an option to keep him for a further season, said recently that he and his family are very happy at Ipswich but admitted he has ambitions to play in the Premier League.

Wolves appear set to be among the Championship’s bigger spenders this summer as they look to challenge for promotion in 2017/18 after a disappointing 15th-place finish this season.

Paul Lambert’s club have already been linked with 24-year-old Preston striker Jordan Hugill, a Town target in January when they had two bids, the second of £2 million, rebuffed.

Meanwhile, Barnsley have confirmed that Marley Watkins and Josh Scowen are leaving Oakwell this summer having turned down new contracts.

Midfielder or striker Watkins, 26, was the subject of a £1 million Town offer last summer with the Blues showing further interest in January.

Quizzed on whether he might make a renewed summer move for Watkins in March, Town boss Mick McCarthy kept his cards typically close to his chest: “I don’t know. We’ll see, he’s out of contract.”

We understand Scowen, a 24-year-old midfielder, is also a player that the Blues have kept tabs on this season.

christiand - as I said, Bart is clearly the better keeper, but huge void? I would disagree. I personally thing Gerken gets a tough ride from some supporters. There was a spell, not sure if it was early last season, or the season before, when he was outstanding and lost his place due to injury. What sets Bart apart now, is how he has improved his consistency and cut out the "rushes of blood" that were prevalent in his game when he first arrived. I would say he is now our best keeper since Richard Wright's first spell at the club.

Why Wolves? Because they've obviously got more ambition, and will pay higher wages. I can see a grim season ahead.

I would indeed rather Bart stay, but if we could get a big fee for him and parlay that back into the starting 11, then it seems sound business to me. As Philwhelansdegree said (great name by the way fella!) Gerken is a perfectly capable 'keeper and, to be quite honest, if the midfield and defense did their jobs better he wouldn't need to do much anyway. Our current midfield does not look after the ball well enough, which invites too much pressure on the back line, which in turn invites too much pressure on the 'keeper. Luckily we've the best in the division to bail us out. Have a look and see how many games we conceded 20+ shots in a game...the midfield is the KEY to any aspiring to team...

well l I did say there will be more bad news before there is any good news , this if it happens is as bad at gets ,I really hope this isn't going to happen. Bart out and McCarthy remaining would take me beyond the point of no return .He kept us up, if we are going to get rid of good players all the time whats the point in following the club.No ambition, no real investment, a zombie manager, crap football, over priced ticketing, WHY would I or anyone want to shell out for that.........I can by a pie anywhere .

Unless we're prepared to show some ambition you couldn't really blame him if he wanted out, he's in the form of his life and who knows when he might have a better opportunity. That said I think going to wolves would be quite a gamble and he can surely do better than that, can't see him kicking up a fuss if we turned them down, a PL club would obviously be a different story.
Maybe mick could convince Lambert that Gerken is just as good and sell him for a hefty fee!

I'm left wondering which word would be most suitable to go in front of 'off!' as our response...

Really, really hope this doesn't happen. Would just underline the lack of ambition, especially if the sale was to another Championship club.

As for Mick's 'Gerks is terrific' - that's like saying that Laurie Sivell was every bit as good as Paul Cooper. Utter spherical fluffy male objects!

Mick out.

Man City need a goalkeeper!!! can,t be worse than the clown they have had.
If he held his head in the dressing room he would drop it.
Is this years ITFC departure never to be replaced. ME uses the money again to offset running costs!!!

If Bart is allowed to leave, it's curtains for this once great club

As per my previous posts and blogs history tells us ME cashes in every summer. We then get told there will be investment in the squad. We then get told it is hard to get players in, clubs want them for pre-season tours etc. We then get everyone elses cast offs and are expected to say what a great job Mick does 'punching above his weight'. .

Boring predictable rubbish. Things must change or we are only going one way.

Wolves or someone else I fear Bart will be sold - who else do we have that people will want to buy?

The fun begins now with about another league of clubs interested in Bartosz.

KNEW IT.
No disrespect to Gerks but what a disgrace it would be if for the second season running our key player is lost to a rival in our own division.

Not sure why people find this so unbelivable, wolves can offer him quadruple what hes earning now and would certainly pay over the odds for him, dont want him to go but IF he did would prefer it to be to a championship club with more money then sence

would be gutted to see BART GO but can see it happening like mings and murphy, rather than be a club that wants to build around our best players evans just sells and mick will get more freebies and deadwood in, if wolves are showing more ambition than us by spending and building a squad then that is good enough reason for him to go as he wants to play at the highest level, all the loan players and current crop we have recently purchased etc are not good enough , end of.
roll on next may when we have hopefully stayed up and a chance of a new manager in as it aint happening next season, more of the same dross!

We need to be realistic here. Firstly, Evans will be looking to cash in on an asset for the fourth season running. Someone will be sold. Any fee won't be reinvested but the club will tell us otherwise.

As most saleable assets have been sold, Bart is clearly the most likely sale. Our recruitment over the past few seasons sadly hasn't seen anyone of note come in who we could cash in on with the exception of Webster.

If we do sell, then I can only see one outcome. No replacement will be sought. Gerken will start.

Finally, most Championship clubs will spend millions this pre season. We won't. But will have an excuse.

He won't go to Wolves or any other Championship club. Where's the step up in that?

Rumours aside Bart is our only saleable asset and we all know what that means he will be off!! my gut feeling is that he could go to Sunderland who will need a first choice keeper next season when Pickford leaves for another premiership club, why would Bart want to stay here with the same unambitious set up that will be here next season he deserves(if he goes) better

ipswich4life,thats fine but Evans is not exactly famed for re investing money into the squad. It will be another farce, the money will vanish and he will probably drag some 30 stone lard ar#e off the street to put between the sticks as a shot stopper. NO CNFIDENCE IN OWNER OR MANAGER .

............. he's on his way. Gerks is a top bloke ......... !!

McCarthy has been itching to get him back in for most of the season. FACT IS: - If it wasn't for Bart, and our Leicester loanee goalscorer, we would have been in Div 1 next season.

Every chance of it being next season now.
