Town Face Posh in Double Friendly
Monday, 15th May 2017 10:23

Town will face Peterborough United in two back-to-back hour-long pre-season friendlies at Posh’s ABAX Stadium on Tuesday 18th July.

The first game starts at 7pm with the teams playing out two periods of 30 minutes with a five-minute break for half-time.

The second match will then be played at 8.30pm in the same format after the second two teams have warmed up.

The two-match format is designed to give as many players from the two squads as much game time as possible.

Town last faced Posh in pre-season in July 2015 when the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

The visit to Peterborough is the third friendly of pre-season to be confirmed with Irish side Drogheda United announcing that the Blues will be at United Park on Saturday 8th July (KO 2pm) and Town at Charlton on Saturday 29th July (KO 3pm).

The Elton John cup - that's a new one for the honours list, not that we will win

How exciting. Two chances to be embarrassed by lower league opposition on the same night.

Good idea stops all the disruption of twenty subs , if you have a squad of thirty players they all need a preseason. It no more than having two games on the same night with one called an Ipswich Xi

Drogheda United and Posh! It's a bit like when Frank Bruno would have a warm up fight against a no hoper and then try and take on Iron Mike Tyson in the next fight! What happened to when we'd take on a decent team like West Ham just before the season started? That was much more like it! If you get a decent team in for the last pre season match you get more fans in to buy new shirts and so on. It isn't rocket science! Last season that team from Belgium, I couldn't even find them on Fifa! Hardly anybody bothered and guess what, good job, as we still somehow lost to them!

Elton John Cup? Where does it mention that?
If any players play the whole of both games, will they be saying at the end of it "I'm still standing"...

No disrespect to the opponents, but what's the point of this?

Ah right, thank you for clarifying, Tractor Cam... so you were just perpetuating that line of deceit? Perhaps you ought to say sorry... or is that difficult?

woohoo,i get what you are saying, but in same way a Prem club [or any decent club for that matter ,knowing how ITFC are now dire [yes folks I mean dire], would think it was waste of time playing us , thrashing us would prove nothing. I know pre season friendlies can be useful for assessing youngsters ,but that aside they are pointless and uninspiring. Its been bad enough over past season and half of ''meaningful games ,I'm certainly not in least interested in friendlies whoever they play to be honest .

To me it seems quite a sensible thing to do. Give all the squad and young players a game without massive changes throughout each game. Posh are a good level for a friendly.

Can't see any reason to moan or criticise about this.

Good idea to give players plenty of game time, don't know why people are moaning about playing local football league clubs in friendlies, we're not exactly going to play against clubs from the other side of the country for some reason. Would be great to play a premier league club but nowadays the majority of them play their pre-season's abroad to make as much money as possible.

When we get a perm side they send a poor squad , and you all complain again . It's just a training session against other players no more no less .

Lets be honest quite a smart idea. We are not a big club in terms of competition, so why do people assume lots of clubs are gonna be swarming to play a friendly against us, local friendlies save money, time and best way to get some playtime under peoples belts

Pre-season games are boring, is this a shock?
They are not for us , they are there for the players to be in best shape for first league game. If we choose to go along and watch that is our choice but not something to moan at the club / manager about (there are enough good reasons to be grumpy without making an issue where there isn't a need.)
I get the point about the last friendly should be against tough opponents and it wasn't tough enough last season but I think there were reasons?? We don't even know who the last friendly I against yet.

I like the Posh but twice! We know that MM (Mickey Mouse) does not take these matches seriously but would prefer a premier or international club....at this rate we will be having back to back matches with the local pub team. FFS!
