Town Face Posh in Double Friendly
Monday, 15th May 2017 10:23

Town will face Peterborough United in two back-to-back hour-long pre-season friendlies at Posh’s ABAX Stadium on Tuesday 18th July.

The first game starts at 7pm with the teams playing out two periods of 30 minutes with a five-minute break for half-time.

The second match will then be played at 8.30pm in the same format after the second two teams have warmed up.

The two-match format is designed to give as many players from the two squads as much game time as possible.

Town last faced Posh in pre-season in July 2015 when the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

The visit to Peterborough is the third friendly of pre-season to be confirmed with Irish side Drogheda United announcing that the Blues will be at United Park on Saturday 8th July (KO 2pm) and Town at Charlton on Saturday 29th July (KO 3pm).

dirtydingusmagee - I disagreed with you saying that preseason friendlies are "pointless and uninspiring". Preseason is vital in any team's season, if a team decided to play no friendlies they wouldn't stand a chance. They are important to try out new formations, systems and get players up to match fitness.

I quite like this idea. Makes for an interesting evening. Get to see most players in action. Good.

Why are Town not going to Scandinavia or Holland for pre season? It always used to be good enough for Sir Bobby and George Burley and it meant they played against unknown footballing teams.
So far I haven't seen one friendly opponent who would convince me to go watch even for free and certainly no one who are likely to test us.
Waste of time in my view

Good call carsey, it does no harm at all travelling to other European countries as it gets our name out there. Can't for one second imagine why we would end up in EIRE every year!!!

This is a great idea. Everyone saying it's going to be boring and "what is the point" have absolutely no idea why pre-season friendlies exist.

They are there to give players competitive game time to improve their fitness, this is just a much more efficient way of handling this and also allows the managers to find out what combinations work by giving the players more game time.

Personally, I think this is rather a good idea for a number of reasons.

Firstly, it gives MM a chance to see a huge variety of players in one evening across two, almost-regular games. This seems to be more meaningful than vast amounts of substitutes, leading to an unrealistic game.

Secondly, Posh are about the right level for a Town-friendly in our current position/status. Like others on here, I can't see many Prem clubs queuing up to play us (what's in it for them??), but Posh should be a worthwhile challenge.

Thirdly, I live near Peterborough, so it won't be too much effort to go!!!

I don't want to go off on one, but to be honest, with McCarthy still at the helm, I am not feeling overly excited/hopeful about the season ahead. This feels sad to me, when we haven't even started yet...

Ps I can't find any ticket info/pricing for this game - can anyone direct me?
