Blues Reportedly Renew Interest in Woodrow and Watkins
Monday, 15th May 2017 12:35

Town are reported to be battling Burton Albion for the signature of Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow - who was linked with a loan move in January - and are said to be one of a number of clubs chasing long-term target Marley Watkins, who is a free agent having left Barnsley at the end of the season.

According to the Daily Mirror the Blues and Brewers are fighting it out for Woodrow, who spent the second half of 2016/17 on loan at the Pirelli Stadium.

The 22-year-old, who made only one start and four sub appearances in the Championship for the Cottagers prior to his switch, in addition to two goals in three starts in the EFL Cup, looks to be surplus to requirements at Craven Cottage despite having another year left on his contract, which also includes an option for a further season.

The 6ft ½in tall striker made 11 starts and three sub appearances for Burton and scored five goals.

Woodrow played youth football with Spurs, Buckhurst Hill and Luton - with whom he made his first three senior appearances as a sub in the FA Trophy - before joining the then-Premier League Whites in March 2011 for a fee which was set to hit seven figures after top-ups.

Having spent time out on loan with Southend in League Two, where he made 10 starts and 12 sub appearances, scoring four times, Hemel Hempstead-born Woodrow made his Premier League debut for Fulham in a 3-1 defeat at Cardiff in March 2014.

In total Woodrow has made 28 starts and 37 sub appearances for the Whites, scoring 12 goals.

Also according to the Daily Mirror, four Championship clubs, Town, Cardiff City, Bristol City and Wolves, are fighting it out for wide midfielder or striker Watkins. However, Premier League Burnley are also said to be keen.

The 26-year-old was the subject of a £1 million Town offer last summer with the Blues showing further interest in January.

Quizzed on whether he might make a renewed summer move for Watkins in March, Blues boss Mick McCarthy kept his cards typically close to his chest: “I don’t know. We’ll see, he’s out of contract.”

Meanwhile, former Town striker Daryl Murphy could be allowed to leave Newcastle United as part of a summer reshuffle at St James’ Park, according to the Newcastle Chronicle.

Murphy, 34, joined the Magpies from the Blues for £3 million last August, signing a two-year deal, and went on to score five goals in nine starts and nine sub appearances as the North-East club carried off the Championship title.

Both good players, but we are unlikely to get either. Burton will offer a better wage to awoodrow and Watkins will end up at Cardiff. We will end up with Moore and Samuels up front.

Sorry for being cynical, but I don't believe in our club. Two years ago they said there would be massive new investment, and we ended up signing Coke and Toure.

Oh well It looks like Watkins is going to sign for the team in Norfolk !!! They have better prospects than we have, and will be in the Premiership long before us, as we will probably finish up with the left overs, Evans will not trust this manager with money
While Dino is in charge we will never get anywhere, we all see teams come and go from this Championship But we are still here !!!!

ATTENTION! Check you this here delightfully "frank" Dino interview & article I RE-stumbled over this past weekend.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/ipswich-town/11342444/Mick-McCar

It's from January 2015 ... and EXTREMELY heavy on the by now all too well known 'Pathological-Obsessed-With-Padding-Himself-On-The-Back'statements & quotes .... Oh and it's ehmmm probably way way too long-winded for most members here on TWTD .... not the least my seemingly **well-meaning** anti-Mick COMPADRES @DirtyDingus & @Seasider :-) smile! :-) I.E. fundamentally it "rambles on and on" (with a thus inferred abundance of **inconsequential** stuff!) and basically reads like something of a hybrid between a Judge Constance Harm's "long-running 'trial summary" and some Poetry Slammer's on-stage verbal "car crash"! LMAO

But anyway for those who do have both the concentration, Literary Capacity + "time"! :-) to read through it ....among all his vintage 'Delusion of Grandeur' drivel etc. please take special note of the Dino McCarthy's final remark:

MM: "Maybe I am a bit rough around the edges, but I'm NOT changing!, I NEVER have since I was a kid!"

....and that public remark is roughly 2½ years old!!! So everyone but the blindfaithed MM-Luvers in particular: Has he indeed showed any remote indications of changing since (excluding of course those relatively rare or isolated occasions where due to either some of his beloved 'favorites' being unavailable or like this April the team suddenly being in dire need of something more than a Gung-Ho draw to mathematically survive in this division, his 'Hand was Forced')?????????

And thus to follow up on that question: Is there really ANY foundation, whatsoever!, to the imho hilarious Snake 'Oil Salesman Extraordinaire' Ian Milne's Public Relation spun idea (or typical clueless belief rather!) that MM is gonna change one micromillimeter ENTERTAINMENT WISE .... i.e. not only tactically obviously but from the currently much hyped Transfer Window Rumor Mill POV = Preferred player types 'wise', Youth Policy 'wise', and thus eventually 2017/2018 starting XI 'wise', all in the course of his awesome holiday & this brief off-season???
Personally I don't think so!!! But if anybody FACTUALLY is capable of pointing out something to support a contrary opinion, by all means please let me & the rest of TWTD hear it!

I personally think that Mick is definitely the man to lead us forward, and all you anti MM'ers are just a clueless bunch of MORONS!! "Oops did I really say that"???? My sincere apologises too you all, I guess i will have to put it down to the fact that I have had a BAD DAY AGAIN!!!! (Lol)

@Cat

Hey you didn't use or mention 'em luvable 'PONIES' this time around matey??? :-)
But since you in general have been dwelling an awful lot on these 'creatures' lately :-) .... I give you THIS!!!! lol ..... I.E. a by-some-nutty-acquaintance-of-mine just recently linked to clip on his Facebook about some hmmmm quite extreme "equine-fixated" Finnish people!

PS: And since it literally has been many many days since anyone (myself included) has had a fairly innocent and in my personal case not the least overwhelmingly **sarcastic** gentle poke at a CERTAIN well-known "downvoter" & poster.... ehmmm a unsubstantiated rumor has already started circulating around me that the 'Little Red Ridding Head' (Alisa!) being interviewed in this clip could in fact POSSIBLY be no other than our dearly "departed" (to Spain, ALLEGEDLY!) @swn98 ... as presuming the '98' stands for year of birth would ehmmm fit quite nicely with the in the clip stated primary age-group of "12-18", of this here immensely super cute but at the same time also undebatably **silly-looking** SPORT!.... :-) lol

Oh and if that just sliiiightly far-fetched theory turns out to be something that's provable wrong ... agewise!, Hmmmm how about @swn98 being the distinctive middle-aged gentleman dressed in that impeccable looking 'Show Coat' & earphones?! leading the --- and hold on now to you phony mustache or whatever -- The "WORLD CLASS DRESSAGE STICK HORSE QUADRILLE"!!! :-) :-) :-) :-)in the immediate follow-up / listed YouTube video??? ..... Okaaaay I think I better log off right now (before I get in trouble again)! LMAO!

WTF is that all about (lol), I did actually see some clips on this very subject over the w/e and I have to say it's a "side splitting" 'hobby'!! I'm looking to fill a void next season should the DINO stay, so I might start participating, maybe in the dressage section, although them horses don't half look fierce!! I guess you can only put it down to the fact that them Finns are lacking in natural daylight or something which is making the country as a whole, go completely "BIRD", not to mention a laughing stock. Whilst we are on the subject of all things equine (with the exception of CHAMBERS on this occasion), that wee little "pony" type fetish of mine is more to do with the 'TRAP' that comes behind it!, albeit a slightly tweaked version of the proper slang term, this word is very native and recognised in my place of residence and BTW before coming on this site, the word 'DROSS' was completely alien to me (thank god)!!!

@catwoman

Absolutely awesome & "sincere" reply, my 'ponies' obsessed good man! As in pretty much what I was anticipating ... or fearing (you looking to fill that gaping ITFC void by thus starting your own 2017/ 2018 local take on that beyond silly-looking "WORLD CLASS DRESSAGE STICK HORSE QUADRILLE") rather! :-)

As for that funny and slang-orientated 'wordsmithery' etc. Please don't in any way get caught up in your own kinky & fetish-like enTRAPment now, okaaaaye? lol

Sky Sports Transfer Centre yesterday:

Aston Villa and Wolves are reportedly eyeing up moves for Barnsley's Marley Watkins, according to the Derby Telegraph.

However, the report suggests Norwich are the front runners for his signature.

Definitely won't be joining us then. Can see this summer being long and disappointing. Our only activity before next season will probably a few non-league free agents and maybe Murphy back on Loan.

Biggest question - are these players better than what we currently have and would they add to the first 11 / 18 ?

In my opinion, both would walk into the 11 and would offer more than we currently have.

Would welcome either. COYB.
