Town Among Clubs Linked With Brighton Midfielder
Tuesday, 16th May 2017 10:11

Town, Barnsley and Wolves are reportedly keen to sign out-of-favour Brighton midfielder Rohan Ince.

According to the Daily Mirror, the trio are among the clubs fighting it out to land Ince, who failed to make a Championship appearance for the Seagulls during their promotion season, but featured in the EFL and FA Cups as well as for their U23s in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The 24-year-old ended the season on loan at Swindon Town where he made 14 starts and scored two goals.

Ince, who has a year left on his Brighton contract, spent the second half of 2015/16 on loan at Fulham having joined the Seagulls on a free transfer after being released by Chelsea in the summer of 2013.

While with the Premier League champions he was unable to break into their first team and spent time out on loan with Yeovil.

Ince, who is the third cousin of former England captain Paul and is the nephew of ex-Crystal Palace defender Eric Young, made a big impression in his first couple of seasons at Brighton having moved from playing central defence to central midfield under then-manager Oscar Garcia and in 2014/15 was linked with the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle, West Ham and West Brom.

In February, the 6ft 3in tall Londoner was cleared of hitting a bouncer with a bottle at a nightclub in Windsor in the early hours of Christmas Day 2015.

Meanwhile, Norwich City are the latest club to be linked with Marley Watkins, who is a free agent having left Barnsley at the end of the season.

According to the Eastern Daily Press, the Canaries are the frontrunners to sign the 26-year-old, who was the subject of a £1 million Town bid last summer and further reported interest in January.

Yesterday, Premier League Burnley and Championship sides Cardiff City, Bristol City and Wolves were also linked with the Wales-born wide midfielder or striker, while Aston Villa and Celtic are also believed to be interested.

"Linked with another but end hp with none"...

Hire purchase is probably our best bet for getting any new players, 12th Man.

I reckon things will go same way as other seasons ,so I'm not taking any notice of transfer speculation. It will be an eleventh hour dip into the dregs . We should go to Loans- r -Us for sponsorship that would look more appropriate on the shirts .

We are we constantly linked with "out of favour" players who have been loaned to lower league clubs. We need young hungry players that are proven in the championship, which means INVESTMENT, gee this sh*t is boring already.

Good god. We're just going to be linked with every cart horse available on a free transfer this summer aren't we?

Course we are linked. He bits the bill perfect; out of contract and out of favour. Just up Mick and Marcus' street!

looks like we will be linked with every available player this summer. I am sure Marcus knows exactly what he would like to come, if the price is right.,

I like him - I said a week ago on the Nathan Thompson post he might be a good signing for us!

His 14 games for Swindon gave him 2nd place in their Player of the Year Poll!
You'd hope he'd be a replacement/competition for Skuse however would more likely with Mick play along side him.....

He's a big physical energetic defensive midfielder who may provide the platform for the likes of Dozzell, Bishop and Benyu to shine ahead of him

Most of these stories are merely rumours put out by agents looking to generate interest in their players or lazy journalist pieces looking to fill column inches during the off-season. They may have some grain of truth to them, in that the club was contacted or had made some relatively benign enquiries, but in reality should not really be taken as another reason to bash the owner or the manager - we have had enough substantial reasons for that as it is.

As for Ince, I had thought he was decent player and certainly someone who would be an asset to a Championship side looking to finish in the top 6, but he didn't progress to where we might have expected him to. Going by what rickw says, perhaps he has turned that around a bit & may finally be maturing into the player he should have been before now - getting cleared of that assault charge may have helped focus his mind. If there is anything to the link, it could be a shrewd bit of business at a relatively low cost.

That's Watkins on his way to Norwich then. As he's a free agent now I can't understand why Barnsley didn't accept our 1m offer if he was going to leave in the summer anyway. At least they would of got something out of it. Think our first signing should be Huws then a striker & then concentrate on the rest of the squad after that. Ince is quite a good player but we do still have our youngsters to come through, Dozzell, Bishop & co.

My Brighton pal tells me he's a defensive midfielder. A defensive midfielder with a 2 goal return in 14 matches. Don't tell Cole Skuse.

The new manager should be targeting new players.

McCarthy OUT

We are going to be linked with every freebie and every journeyman. It's going to be a long summer. The difference to the past 2/3 transfer windows is that after the dire season we've had, McCarthy won't get away with adding the normal summer dross. He will get chased out of Town (with Evans not far behind). The Men in charge have backed themselves in to a corner now and it's going to be interesting to see how they get out.

I'd take him, he's 24, came thru Chelsea, looked good under Garcia, good enough to attract prem interested, related to the guvnor so should be able to tackle, would be competition for Skuse, sounds like he played well in a struggling Swindon side.

Isn't that almost everything we have all been looking for in a DMF?

If we can get him, sign him

Played really well against us at the Amex a few years ago.
Would be a good addition but probably expensive if he is on his game. Brightons wages must be on a different level to Ipswich's

Just when you think there's no wood left to scrape from the bottom of the barrel!
Never even heard of him!
He might be a pleasant surprise but we know how rarely these sorts of transfers work out well!

Lathers, don't know how you came to that conclusion , they don't give a toss what the supporters think or do.Mc,Carthy despises the fans, they doubt his brilliance. Evans is so detached from football and realities of running a football club, I sometimes wonder if he has forgotten he is the owner. So please don't think the fans have got them on the run .

Mark added 15:11 - May 16
I doubt Ince would replace Skuse if we signed him, McCarthy would probably play both defensive midfielders together.
