Knight Among Quartet Guesting for Tottenham in US
Sunday, 28th May 2017 10:33

Highly-rated Blues youngster Ben Knight is one of four academy schoolboys guesting for Tottenham at an U15s tournament in San Diego over the weekend, but not on trial as reported elsewhere, TWTD understands.

Knight, Zak Brown, Nyan Mesuria and Liam Gibbs have been lent to Spurs for the tournament as they were short of players for the trip.

England U15 international Knight, 14, is the best known of the quartet having been linked with Manchester City, where Town’s former U23s coach Mark Kennedy is in charge of their U15s, towards the end of last year with a number of other Premier League clubs also understood to have been monitoring his progress.

The diminutive left-footed number 10, who has agreed a long-term deal with the Blues, was named the Player of the Tournament at the Galway Cup last summer.

Striker Brown, the younger brother of Charlie Brown, who joined Chelsea from Town last summer, has so far been on target twice at the San Diego tournament, which is being shown on TV in the US.

It’s not the first time Town youngsters have guested for Tottenham in this manner. Back in 2013 midfielder Andre Dozzell, defender Chris Smith and former striker Sam Ford, who was released by West Ham this week, played in a post-season friendly against Cambridge, an arrangement which came about due to Bryan Klug’s links with Spurs.

The Blues’ academy head of coaching and player development was assistant academy director and head of player development at Spurs prior to his return to Town in 2012.

Last summer midfielder Kundai Benyu was allowed to join the Spurs squad for an U19s tournament in Amsterdam.

'Knight, Zak Brown, Nyan Mesuria and Liam Gibbs have been lent to Spurs for the tournament as they were short of players for the trip'.

Is it just me or does this sound a bit odd?

Does seem odd, Spurs, multi million pound organisation, many levels of teams, are short and have to borrow from lower table Championship team. short! Maybe exam time??

Spurs forget a couple of players did they? Lose them down the back of the sofa? Do you think they can lend us 4 back when we are short at the start of the season? Kane Ali , Erikson and Son please

.....sounds a positive "relationship" ....is this why we were able to pick ward up last year for originally what looked like a sensible fee ......we never want to become a feeder club bit telationships like this should give us access to any squad players they might have to loan out....if it doesn't ...stop doing it

We shouldn't even be mentioning these young players. Do you know how many of them will actually go on to player championship/premiership football? I'd say a very low percentage.

Did we get any money for Sam Ford when he went West Ham?

or was it that we would get a fee if he scored a hat trick at a world cup final?

If these lads are being coached to play football good enough to play for Spurs youths there is clearly someone at Town who believes in playing the game the right way and capable of getting players to do it. I am guessing McCarthy is not that man so my question is why isn't that person in charge of the first team squad.
I realise this is simplistic but it is proof there are players at the club who can play football fit for this club rather than the rubbish McCarthy insists on dishing out.

It was our link with spurs that help us get Grant Ward for relatively cheap fee last summer plus we had several loans from them in years gone by.

No harm to let them use our youngsters for competitive summer tournaments, helps keep them fit active and experiencing new environment.

I was also wondering about Sam Ford - we didn't get a penny as released him so that he could sign for West Ham http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/mccarthy-hopes-sam-ford-makes-it-at-west-ham-after-i Seems that Ford didn't make it - I wonder what will happen to him now
