Town to Discover Carabao Cup Opponents on Friday
Monday, 12th Jun 2017 20:33

Town will discover their first round opponents in the Carabao Cup - the competition known as the EFL Cup last season - on Friday at 1pm.

The draw takes place in Bangkok where the competition’s new sponsor, Carabao Energy Drink, are based.

It will be available via various platforms, including the EFL’s new iFollow service, on the Carabao Cup Facebook page and SkySports.com.

The draw will be carried out by former France and Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit, Carabao’s CEO Sathien Setthasit, the British Ambassador to Thailand Brian Davidson and the EFL’s chief executive Shaun Harvey.

The draw is regionalised and seeded based on clubs’ finishing position in the EFL last season. Town are among the southern seeds. The ties take place in the week commencing 7th August.

Last season the Blues were beaten 1-0 at home in the first round by League Two Stevenage.

Town will learn their 2017/18 Championship fixtures on Wednesday 21st June.

Carabao Cup?

Dunno about anyone else, but just for a moment there, I had not got a bloody clue what the hell this story was about.

It does not matter who we play, we will go out in Round 1 as always as McCarthy does not value the cups at all and it rubs off. The 1-0 defeat at home to Stevenage this season was one of the most soul destroying evenings of being an ITFC fan. Under £7K there that night and I reckon we could dip below £5K this time.

Predics away tie at Stevenage, Mick picks a team of youths and reserves, and we bomb out after an uninspiring display. Sound familiar?

Makes little difference. Mick won't take it or indeed any cup competition seriously. After all, the club no longer cares about the fans who may like a cup run. If it's a home game, I'll show as much interest as MM and ME.

....... of great interest I'm sure to McCarthy - never has been interested - and never will.

Will we get past the first round whoever we meet ? - highly doubtful.

If it's an energy drink, is there a possibility that the players could have a few tins before the game

The Carabao Cup: says it all really about where football has ended up, i.e. in the corporate laps of the "sponsors."
