Garner Move Set to Be Completed This Week
Tuesday, 13th Jun 2017 13:14

Town’s move to sign Rangers striker Joe Garner is expected to be completed later this week, TWTD understands.

TWTD revealed that the Blues were close to making their first signing of the season on Sunday with a fee of £1 million - Town's first seven-figure outlay since the recruitment of Paul Taylor for £1.5 million from Peterborough in August 2012 - having been agreed between the clubs.

The further formalities relating to the deal are in the process of being concluded with Garner, 29, set to pen a three-year contract with the Blues.

Garner moved to Ibrox from Preston for £1.4 million last summer, when Town we understand were also interested, signing a three-year contract.

The former England U16, U17 and U19 international scored 10 goals in 22 starts and 12 sub appearances during 2016/17.

Garner started his career with his hometown club Blackburn Rovers but was unable to break into the first team prior to moving on to Carlisle, initially on loan, then Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield (loan), Scunthorpe (loan), Watford and Carlisle for a further loan spell before joining Preston in 2013.

While with the Lilywhites the 5ft 10in tall frontman scored a 20-minute second-half hat-trick as the Lancastrians beat the Blues 3-2 in an FA Cup third round replay at Deepdale in January 2014.

The following season Garner won the League One Player of the Year award as he helped Preston into the Championship via the play-offs.

I didn't realise his best season in the Championship was only 6 goals (unless his season was ravaged by injury), is that it! So most of those goals I watched on YouTube were from League One then, oh dear, not so good! Hopefully he'll do the business but given his track record at this level I would of thought half a million would of been a fairer deal rather than 1 million.

You shouldn't really dwell on Garner's, or anyone else's for that matter, "season best" in this league! -- cause in theory his best could have been 6 goals (well in fact it was 7 actually in 2008/2009 for Forest) in say 10 games! and not a an unmistakably lofty 41 games which was the case of his LATEST championship season i.e. 2015/2016 with Preston! -- but rather on a player's goal-per-game average/ratio or vice versa as @lilconishblue wrote in detailed percentage points or I chose to phrase a little differently as a goal every 6-7 championship game ....either way it certainly isn't something to "write home about" lol ... and now he is whole year older (29) of course having spent last season in the fairly weak Scottish PL.

So you, yet another "moaner" moaning about other people moaning (rightly or wrongly) btw :-) hmmm encourage the inferred anti-regime fans to "get behind" the Dino...

Well that's a mighty noble & cozy sounding Lets-Get-Together ideology you display there ...However I'm confident that I echo the sentiments of many of these anti-regime fans when I for instance opt to quote the imho very appropriate "YOU WILL REAP WHAT YOU SOW" (which of course is a daring 'Holy Book' reference, sorry! :-) , despite the fact that I happen to be an avid atheist myself and thus easily could have chosen another source & variation of basically the same proverb) and sadly, repeat sadly, the dreaded Dino or in the famous 2002 words of Roy Keane: "Not to be rated" in ANY capacity "w@nker"!!! has in the last 2 season at least (excluding perhaps "striking it lucky!" with his signing of this season-saving (alongside Bart) loanee Mr. Lawrence) unequivocally "SOWN" absolutely:

nought, nil, nada, nothing, zero, zilch and zip!

to remotely warrant him in any way or form "REAPING" that I, @suffolk_n_Good plus in good probability as much as 66%-70% of other ITFC fans according to TWTD's & EADT's very own surveys with the former holding an by the survey & poll industry very own standard: Truly excellent 2.04% 'Margin of Error' at an off the chart 99% "Confidence Level' (as I demonstrated in detail in the TWTD Questionnaire results article).

.... So sorry mate while I sincerely agree it indeed would have been very nice, very constructive & very beneficial for the players themselves that EVERY single fan "got behind" the team's current manager, ehmmm "getting behind" the clearly tactical inept, inherently obnoxious & foulmouthed and of course suffering from a SEVERE case of 'Delusion of Grandeur' Dino seems in this Day & Age solely to be for those almost By Default *complacent* as well as *Hear-No-Evil-See-No-Evil* Ipswich "In Mick We (Unconditionally) Trust" Muppets like yourself ........... aye in my personal case even if the Dino hypothetically suddenly got a 'blanco cheque' from ME and somehow managed to lure the "luvable" Cristiano Ronaldo into an ITFC shirt!!! :-) lol

Ronaldo in an ITFC shirt....wonder what odds the bookies would give on that?

The odds on intelligent alien life being discovered by 2019 end: 100-1
Tony Blair to be next British Prime Minister: 300-1
Jeremy Corbyn to be next James Bond: 2000-1

God only knows what the odds are on Ronaldo signing for us.....

Didn't TWTD report the fee to be £500,000?

Daryl Murphy wasn't exactly going supernova at Celtic before he came to Ipswich where his goal scoring record improved significantly, so there's hope for Joe Garner yet. He should have some good years left in him and still has something to prove. Reserving judgement on this one.

Mickzzztactics so much sh*t is such a small space! Muppet - tut tut. Can't blame him being foul mouthed, he's got tw*ts like you to endure. Plenty of people talking a good job and obviously that includes you. Stay at home and do us all a favour!

Think Garner & McGoldrick would make a good partnership, If McGoldrick stays fit for a season.
Sears is good back up, not sure about Moore. Still think there is room for another striker as Pitman could be off. Def need to sign Huws or someone like him. Another winger prob a loan like Lawrence. A centre half for back up. Got to give Dozzell, Bishop & Benyu more of a chance in the team this season. That makes 3 great home grown talented players fighting to play. Think we will be ok if we attack. YES ATTACK MICK
