Town Linked With Striker Fryatt
Friday, 16th Jun 2017 10:41

Town are one of a number of Championship clubs reported to be eyeing striker Matty Fryatt following his release by Nottingham Forest.

According to HITC Sport, QPR, the Blues and one of his previous clubs, Hull City, are among the sides keen to talk to Fryatt.

The 31-year-old has been out of action since March 2015 due to an achilles problem but is now said to be fit and ready to make his return.

Nuneaton-born Fryatt started his career with Walsall and has also had spells with Carlisle (loan), Leicester, the Tigers and Sheffield Wednesday (loan) before moving to Forest in the summer of 2014. Over his career, he has scored 135 goals in 313 starts and 95 sub appearances.

Given his injury record, it may be that clubs would look to take Fryatt on trial during pre-season rather than immediately offering him terms.

Whether there is anything in the claimed interest in Fryatt, Town, who are close to completing the signing of Rangers striker Joe Garner, could be in the market for another senior frontman this summer but probably not while Brett Pitman is still at Portman Road.

As TWTD revealed in May, Pitman - as is the case with midfielder Kevin Bru - has been told he can move on this summer if he can find himself a club despite having another year left on his contract.

Used to be better at a younger age, hasn't played since 2015, bad injuries and given the fact you can put your house on mcgoldrick been injured for at least half the season then its probably not worth the risk.
If he can prove fitness like Steven Taylor has to pre season then worth a punt

So pleased to see HITC as the source, so I can just discount this as I don't really want a 31 YO who hasn't played for 2 years!!

Bent ..ArnieM?

Can you honestly see Darren Bent coming back to Town when he is on £60,000 a week at the moment. In our dream!

Not sure on Fryatt as why would Forest be getting rid? I know he WAS a good player but having not played since March 2015 makes me wonder why we would be in for him.

At least the powers that be have some irons in the fire as one of our old managers used to say!

What would he do here? Do we need a water boy?

Can't see him playing. Probably have to drop way down the leagues to get a club.

This is surely a joke!!! Beyond scraping the barrel if true. He was well past his best (when he was a league one striker) before he even got injured 2 and a half years ago.

Injury prone, Micks favourite type of striker.

He's been injured for 2 years, I thought he used to be proven at this level however he got into double figures only twice in 10 seasons in the Championship (3 out of 3 in L1)

I would suggest he's past this level now

Decent once upon a time but injury prone and not getting any younger has had some good seasons in the championship but perhaps not the right player for now.

Any truth that Pittman has been offered as a make weight in cash plus player deal for Ward?

I would have been very happy to see Fryatt come here at the time he signed for Forest, but as others have said, we can't afford to take a chance on another post serious injury player in his 30s at this time.
The thoughts of getting Danny Ward from Rotherham in a deal involving a swap with Pitman, if true, would really interest me. He's exactly the type of forward we need right now. It would make me far more positive about Garner signing too as I could see them work as a partnership. I hope there really is something to that link as I thought he was Cardiff bound.

I know people aren't happy with loan players but with Fraser, Lawrence, DJ Campbell, Giovanni did santos... and potentially this new player I'd rather take 3 players on loans who are going to get us promoter than bang average players from Scotland and the championship,

Imagine a team with all those players in

Was good a few years ago, past his best now. Not someone I'd want us to sign

"pay as you play" only deal at best. we should do that for these 30+ year old injury-plagued players initially. only problem with that is though is unless they are deemed as being a "proper bloke" by Mick they'd probably only get 2 games a season (league cup 1st round and fa cup 3rd round) which would mean a lean year of earnings even for a football player!

Hasnt played in over 2 years! is that a typo?

Was a good player a few years ago but cant see the club going for him.
