Town Confirm Huws Permanent Deal
Wednesday, 28th Jun 2017 17:11

Town have confirmed that midfielder Emyr Huws has rejoined the Blues from Cardiff City on a permanent basis, signing a four-year deal. Last night, TWTD revealed that Huws’s return to Town was set to be completed today.

We understand the fee, while officially undisclosed, is approaching £1 million, just below the figure paid to Rangers for striker Joe Garner earlier this month.

The Wales international enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell at Portman Road during the second half of last season, scoring three goals in 13 starts.

“We are delighted to have got the deal done. I’m sure the fans are thrilled as well,” boss Mick McCarthy told the club site.

“Emyr was outstanding for us last season. He was arguably our best player along with Tom Lawrence and he certainly made us a better team.

“He’s only 23 so there is improvement in him. I’m sure other clubs would have been interested in him but we’re delighted he’s back with us. He was different class when he was here.”

Huws himself added: "I'm really happy to get it done and I'm delighted to sign up here.

"It took a bit longer than expected but I'm really happy to get it all sorted. Now I'm looking forward to getting back and the season ahead.

"The fans were great with me last season, and were very positive towards me. I appreciate that support and I'm looking forward to playing in front of them again for Ipswich Town."

Huws played youth football with Swansea and then Manchester City, where he made one senior sub appearance.

While with City he spent time on loan at Northampton, Birmingham and Wigan before joining the Latics on a permanent basis in 2014.

A spell on loan at Huddersfield followed last season before he moved to Cardiff on a permanent basis last summer signing a three-year deal but made only two starts and two sub appearances for the Bluebirds.

Firmly out of Cardiff manager Neil Warnock's plans, he took a pay cut to join Town on loan in January in order to play first team football.

Llanelli-born Huws has been capped 11 times by Wales at full level, scoring one goal, in addition to appearances at U17, U19 and U21 levels.

Meanwhile, former Norwich striker Kyle Lafferty, who was recently linked with the Blues, has joined Scottish Premiership side Hearts.

Ex-Blues frontman Jack Marriott has moved from Town's Carabao Cup opponents Luton to Peterborough United. The 22-year-old was released by the Blues in the summer of 2015 having come through the academy.

We need to get behind the team and stop all the negativity, it is not getting us anywhere, have a go at management on match day when we can't perform, we are itfc, alot of people on here sound like they are pro's at the game all we do is watch it, no wonder they make mistakes with simple passes and are unlucky at times, when all the team get is bashed on here for little errors they done, it puts you down, we need to concentrate on the positives and this signing is the start of good things to come!

We now need to either buy, or cultivate from youth, a foil for Huws. Skuse is not the answer. We're going places at last. Perhaps top 8 again.

Good age, good ability, good attitude, good price. Hope he's the first midfielder on the team sheet this season.

Good player but does nothing on the creativity scale. We still desperately need a midfield general who likes to attack or it will be the same old C..p this season.

It will certainly take more than signing two players we had last season to renew my season ticket.

You know what Camblue, I think the constant negativity is hugely unhelpful, we are all on this forum because we support Ipswich and now is the time to get behind them. We asked ME to put his hand in his pocket (he is already losing something like £600,000 per month and is the only reason we're actually in business at all) and he is doing so. MM is a very genuine person and a good manager working on limited resources, just imagine what he could have achieved at Norwich with their money, it's multiples of what we have to spend. YesI have a problem with last season, I went to nearly 40 games and it was terrible but do you think Mick enjoyed it? Do you think he doesn't want to entertain and win games? Our squad was lucky to stay up last year and this is clearly being acknowledged. COYB!

Welcome back Emyr. Well done MM for targeting Huws and getting Evans to loosen the purse strings to sign a good young positive player.

TBT, You might call it negativity. The "football" last season was a joke. We still have the same management in place. Whatever makes you think things will change.

Think this is a really good signing for us but also feel some are getting carried away with our signings so far . We were very poor after Christmas last season and so far we have lost two of our most consistent players in Berra and Lawrence and in theory a proven goals scorer in Pitman and so far replaced them with an unproven youngster and and unproven striker in this league . Spence and Huws were already part of the team that performed so poorly ?

@camblue - well said and it's nice to know there are a few on here happy not to brush things under the carpet, with the hope that things will improve next season. No issues with M.E but there again I never have had, as for the Dino, I'm still surprised that his in a job, especially with the way things went on the pitch last season and the arrogant behaviour towards the fans off it. Message to all those forgiven posters, don't come on here bleating if things remain the same next season on the pitch I.e tactics, favourites or parking the bus etc, etc, etc, because you need to face facts here, his been doing the same old sh!t for 25 years. MM and ITFC just don't fit IMO!!!.

Most getting carried away again,,lets asses where we are compared to the end of last season,Garner has come in to replace the out of favor Pitman (who i feel has been treated badly like others before and played regularly would score more goals in a season) Huws was here already just on loan, Celina comes in to replace Tom Lawrence,, big boots to fill lets hope he can but i am not sure.Spence was here on loan and now signed.Well are we any better team wise than last season at present i don't think so,Skuse will be first on team sheet again or maybe Cambo so before everyone think we are world beaters again just stop and think for a minute i still think its bottom six rather than top.

Shakytown - that midfield general you mention is already here, he goes by the name Cole Skuse!! Well in McCarthys eyes anyhow!!! He will be one of the first on the team sheet, but we all know that already!

"he took a pay cut to join Town on loan in January in order to play first team football"

This right here speaks volumes about his character. A trait sadly missing from many players these days. A player who wants to actually play. Now there's a novel concept.

Welcome back Huws! COYB
